August park reservations, tickets, and MDE question

I'm planning a late August trip to DL in a DVC Grand Californian 2-BR for 6 people, two families. We have been WDW AP/DVCers for decades but I'm on a learning curve with DL. If this has been discussed elsewhere, please direct me to it.

I have big two questions right now.
1) Tickets and park reservations: Late August isn't available yet so I can't get either tickets or park reservations. When will they become available? This makes me nervous that I have so many DVC points tied up with the reservation plus cross-country airfare for 6 people!

2) MDE: We have our WDW MDE's separated into two families but linked. I'm reading that linking is not as easy for DL. We probably won't be back to DL for many years so would it be better for us to have one MDE for all of us since we are traveling as one, large group or do two MDE's? We will be using a DAS pass for one of us but all six of us will be on the pass. We will be paying for everything on one account, too. All of the adults are on the same DVC account.

Thanks!

I can't help with the second question but for the first one. Reservations open 180 days in advance so right now the first few days are August are as far out as the calendar goes. If you are going in late August then your dates should come available later this month when we hit 180 days.

For the Disneyland app (not MDE it is separate), you can all use the same account if that is easiest. If you prefer to have 2 accounts (1 per family) it is very easy to link tickets in the app, not sure where you heard it was difficult. Either way once the tickets are linked anyone with access can make G+ reservations, etc.

EDIT: Please don’t freak out about the dates not being available yet. Individual tickets (Vs MKeys) have wiiiiide availability, and esp since you will be staying onsite. So again, no need to worry. DL is much easier than WDW!

We are less than 140 days now, which is why I'm a bit concerned. Is it typical to not come out at 180 days?

120 days, not 180.

I don't know where the 180 days comes from, is that a WDW thing? At Disneyland reservations can be made 120 days in advance with tickets and 90 days with magic keys. You will not have difficulty securing reservations at 120 days out or even closer to your dates. You will need to wait until all your dates are available to buy your tickets and secure your reservations, so if you are determined to get your reservations as soon as they are available, count your 120 days back from your last date you plan to enter the parks.

Also, you will need to use the Disneyland app, not MDE for Disneyland. You can have each family make their own Disneyland account; you can have each individual make their own Disneyland account; whatever works best for you all. Tickets will initially be attached only to the purchaser's account but can easily be added to as many Disneyland accounts as you would like either by scanning the ticket barcodes into the app or manually entering the associated number strings.

We got our tickets through a third party seller. It gave us the option to pre-purchase Genie+ in advance and save about $25-$30 per ticket. They’re associated to my account through the Disneyland app and will book park reservations starting on Monday for our dates.
