August help

I am considering a trip this August 15-21...however, all of my other trips have been the first week in December. Honestly, how much of a shock will the weather and crowds be compared to my other trips? I am also from Minnesota-it does get hot and humid too, but probably nothing compared to Florida. Just want to know others opinions before making my decision. Thanks!

I personally don't think the heat is THAT big of a deal because a lot of things are indoors, it's really just walking from point A to point B. We have gone several times in the summer and I don't think the crowds are bad (we have been in late July, mid and late August). At the end of August, we were walking on a lot of rides. We are from Pittsburgh and there have been days hotter here than in Disney while we were there (we would check weather forecast for home to compare). I wouldn't hesitate to go that week in August :goodvibes We just went in early December, and the really cold nights weren't fun. I'd rather be hot.

OMG...I am officially unable to multi-task. I re-read my post (which I wrote while unpacking lunch bags and getting dinner ready) and realized that I said my husband hates the kids instead of he hates the HEAT! LOL.....he really does love our children....I hope!

:rotfl2: i was like :scared1: when I read that!

It is CRAZY hot. The World Showcase feels like the seventh level of hell. I've done it before, but for some reason this past trip really bothered me. It just wore me out so fast. I assume it's because I'm getting old...which really stinks, because as a teacher, it is the ONLY time I can go when it isn't crazy packed!

Yup, WS is like you are walking on the surface of the sun. Relentless, little shade etc. When we were walking to WS, the workers standing outside the dvc booth said, "Welcome to the REALLY hot side of Epcot."

Just be careful in the heat op, there have been quite a few threads on the heat/humidity of Aug in the last few days. do a quick search, there is some good info.

Like some other posters, we are from Texas also and it can get quite hot here in the summer time. 110 degree days are not unusual in Austin but of course it's that "dry" heat that nobody feels, right? :)

But last August, the 12th thru the 20th in fact, we were in the Florida Keys (Islamorada, Marathon, Key West), Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.

And honestly, if we weren't standing in the direct sun it felt cooler than the heat we left behind in Texas.

Is there anything different about Orlando or could we count on roughly the same weather there as the southern portions of Florida?

We're also Minnesotans and we took a quick trip right before Labor Day this year. Let's just say I'm glad we were only there for 3 days. Even though it wasn't as humid as I thought it would be (???), it was OMG so hot. We didn't have any pictures taken in front of the park icons in the daylight because it was so hot, and anytime we were in the sun we were instantly sweating profusely. We stood outside Splash for FoF and were dripping sweat by the time the parade was half over.

That being said...crowds were awesome. There were like no lines for anything. While I have been overruled by the rest of the family, I'd brave late August again simply because of the crowd level. My husband and kids aren't on board with that, though. It was just too hot for them.

The key is that you HAVE to get there for RD and expect to leave the park by noon (or at least have an ADR at noon) and then go back to the resort for a swim, and don't return to the park until close to sunset. Midday in the sun is just too brutal. And I'd never set foot in the WS during the day in August. On one our our October trips the high was 90 and we wanted to die in the WS.

I agree with what all the PP's said about the heat. It's so hot it's crazy. My suggestions:
-breaks during the day for swimming
-see A/C shows in the afternoon
-book a TS meal for the A/C in the afternoon for a break
-rope drop
-lots of water
-FROGG TOGGS :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:-we go every August (this year August 18-September 2nd - teacher here... need to get back for school) and the frogg toggs are a lifesaver. We each have one and keep them wrapped around our necks. It really keeps the body temperature down. Just re-wet it every couple of hours.
