Sorry guys I know this ones been asked time and time again but I'm still trying to decide whether my next trips to be August 2008 or May 2009.

Prices are coming up at approx £2,461 with VA miles plus money (a saving of only £150 against full price fares :confused3 ) and much the same with BA.

What I'd like to know is, has anybody ever found a reduced fare in the after christmas sales through either BA or VA - found an excellent fare recently with Air Canada but apparently ...... hubby will only fly direct !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dates I'm looking at are 8th or 10th August returning approx the 26th.

I doubt you will have much sucess without being more flexible.
Either change your outbound dates or fly indirect. Best deals I see without a lot of searching below. So difficult for next August, good luck:goodvibes

Out on 5th Virgin miles fare 20,000 each + £101
In on 26th Indirect Via NYC then Virgin to London £253
Makes total £354 each + 20,000 miles each

Out on 5th Virgin miles fare 20,000 each + £101
In on 26th direct Virgin to London £389
Makes total £490 each + 20,000 miles each

You have seen the Air Canada around £390 return for the 8th-26th which are a bargain for August, but we don't mind a stop for a few hours somewhere.

We looked at some Air Canada flights for August because they were so cheap . . . . their arrived in MCO at almost midnight. That just made too long a day, especially up so early in the morning.

We've bitten the bullet and paid £630 each flying into Miami with VA; not happy with these prices but there are 7 of us going (our friends and their two kids), they are flying out 2 days before us but we're all flying home together, we're staying in three different places in FL together, so it was complicated o start with sorting out all the logistics. It's likely to be their only trip to FL (we've skiied together in the US for the past two years) since both our kids are getting older so they decided to do it in style. Happy to oblige, more miles with VA's Flying Club will hopefully mean my DD's 16th birthday trip with me to NY in Feb 09 will be free:thumbsup2

Good luck with the flight prices, they are terrible for next August:sad2: :scared:

Annie, I would have arrived at midnight if I was going to save £1,680 on 7 seats. :rotfl2:
We arrived after midnight last year in August, delay from Chicago, just means straight to bed and up at normal time first day, instead of getting there early eve, going to bed early and getting up at 5am like sometimes happens with us.

I agree, indirect is not that terrible, a bit of money saved is a lot of money when you have 4+ tickets to buy, and you get the same holiday.......

You don't need to sell it to me guys, sell it to my old man!!!!!!!! I'd be happy to change planes or even sit in an airport to save £1200 but no way will he even consider the option - no direct flight, no go .................... men!!!!!!!!! guess, if the pices don't go down in the sale, I'll have to wait until May 2009 or bite the bullet and pay top dollar.

I'm holding back at the moment purely because they are so high and I keep wondering whether they've been hiked only to reduce in the New Year sale - wishfull thinking :wizard:

There you go, your answer, go indirect to save money and leave him at home to save even more:rotfl2:

Virgin have annoyed me for next August by not looking after flying club members. For this Aug full fare never dropped below £830ish but they offerered better prices for M&M, we paid £533+2000 miles. Still most I have ever paid but a lot better than full fare. This year there is hardly a saving.
Only thing I am hoping for people is they come down, they didn't even release our dates until Xmas morning for this Aug, so time yet.
They have lost our business though, where I would have booked a reasonable M&M fare I have now booked free flight with miles and coming back with BMI, so instead of them getting about £1,600 they have nothing.

Whilst I see your point of view Wayne, Virgin will be happy to sell the seats you would have taken at a higher price. If the situation was that supply outsripped demand, then prices would come down, but as there seems to be a reduction in seats across the board for next year and Virgin will have had feedback from the travel companies about forward sales, then M & M fares won't be good if demand is there for high seat prices.

Hi

Just wondering do you need to fly with virgin I have just looked around for your and found flights leaving on the 8th for 2 wks costing total £1,580.40 incl tax etc...

Thanks Nicci

Nicci,

Thanks for looking .... Not at all!

IMHO Virgin are highly over-rated - any direct flight would be fine from any of the London airports, a departure on the 8th would work well!

If you could let me know the details It'd be much appreciated.

Sharon

Absolutely. We saved over £1500 by flying indirect with American last month, into Chicago then down to Tampa. Worked brilliantly and we were expecting to do so again next August, but the indirect prices are more expensive than direct at the moment:confused3 :confused3 , and because we have lots of different arrangements to sort out wanted to get the flights sorted now.

Sharon - I'm so sorry these "gentlemen" have hijacked your thread!!!:rotfl2:

Obi - yes, you can come with us as DH isn't ,so we will need someone to carry suitcases, pay for food and generally run around after us;)
