I think its just tactics airlines have adopted over the past few years. High prices on release and try keep high. early bookers pay a high premium, hang on for deal and they drop. Trouble is many people want to book early.
the cost of flights is what's making trips to WDW difficult for us now.
It's no longer "the original four" (how we always refer to ourselves - me, DH, DD and DS), but the two spouses and now kidlets.
so that's at least 2 extra airline tickets (and once kidlet #1 reaches age 2, a third ticket)..
and of course, we can't all fit into one room, so i've gone from financing 4 flight tickets, 1 room and 4 WDW tickets to 6+ flight tickets, 3 hotel rooms, and 6+ WDW tickets...
and for us, an economy flight in the summer is over £1,500/person!!

so for 6 people that's £9,000 just for the flights.
Then add on the rooms etc.
i just can't afford that.
flight prices used to be less than half what they are now.
Maybe i should play the lottery? i need to finance this trip somehow.
if we could travel in a really dead season (january), the flights would be less than half what they are in the summer. But who wants to be there in january? it's damn cold in orlando that time of year.
