Hi,
We are going down this August. This is our first time in the summer. Does anyone know how bad the bugs are?

We always go at the end of Aug. and I have never noticed the bugs. We are from Minnesota so I am used to mosquitos but I have never been bothered by any bugs in Florida.

Enjoy your trip!!!

I agree, no bug problems in Aug.
It is a good time to go, you will
have a ball.

Lovebugs?? Usually the lovebugs show up around early May and then again in September. Been there during both times. They don't bite, but will stain your cloths, so watch where you sit and keep your mouth shut on the outside rides.

We have gone down in August a few times and never noticed any bugs.

We saw huge flying roaches in August. But we only saw them at Epcot for some reason. We are going again this August. I hope not to see those ugly things this time.

We went the last week in August last year. We saw maybe 3 love bugs the whole week and nothing else. When we went the previous year, last week in Sept we saw lovebugs everywhere and got eaten alive by mosquitos.

Disney uses natural bug elimanators. Lady Bugs eat other bugs are not offensive to most humans. Disney releases Lady Bugs every morning. It is even a ritual guests can participate in at some of the resorts if I remember right. And in April on Environmental Day it is a BIG deal even in the parks.

We were there last August and really didn't see any bugs at all.

We go every August and never have had a problem with bugs. A couple of times we've had notices in our rooms about mosquito problems and have never seen one!

Not being an expert in bugs, we did see some, did I say some? Billions! of bugs when going across the lake to MK. They covered every surface and we vowed to never again travel by boat at night, it's the monorail for us in the future. Don't know what the bugs were, they may have been mosquitos, but I'm not really sure.
Apart from that, not been bothered in 5 trips in August!

love bugs ... they are annoying 1/2 inch long narrow flying aci-filled bugs that hatch in april or May and then (how they got their name) "join" with another bug and fly "attached" through the summer.

They are expecially attracted to black tar asphalt surfaces. They do serious damage to car paint finishes. They do not "bite, sting or otherwise" attack humans.

I have often wondered how they keep the bugs down.

I know that they use lady bugs etc. but that they also use some pesticides as well. It would be difficult to monitor and control bugs in swampy florida, but it seems like they do.

Not like up here in Canada. When it is warm, the bugs are out in full force.

The mosquito is our national bird.

Thanks for the help with ladybugs ....although i have to say the name sounds like the equivalent of ladybirds over here..nice little cute things......aci-filled you say?!.....why oh why do they have to hatch in May!!:(
There are plenty other months of the year for them to multiply  :Pinkbounc

Do they splat on you given half the chance?

LADYbugs and LOVEbugs are two different creatures. Lady bugs are good. Love Bugs are not

Love bugs will ruin the paint on your car if you don't wash them off after every trip. Birds won't eat them. Spiders throw them out of their webs. This is due to their acidity and "bitter" taste. There have been stories circulating around Florida (I grew up here) that they were a hybrid insect created to eliminate the mosquito population. The story says they were accidentally released before proper testing to find out if they worked. Unfortunately, they do not eat mosquitoes. They just add to the huge population of insects already living in Florida during the summer. I know they spray at MK about once a week because when I used to work there I could smell it driving in at 6:00 am. If you plan to spend any time outdoors in the evenings, make sure to bring an insect repellant with deet. If this winter and early spring is any indication of what our weather will be like this summer, there will be plenty of standing water for mosquitoes to lay their eggs in.:(
