August 8, 2010 double dip!

Oh my- it's going to be a long wait until our next cruise in Jan...........Right now and every morning, DD listens to our "Wonder DD CD" (yes, no exaggerating, every morning), and yesterday, begged to watch the DCL planning DVD......again! It is so great to see the excitement of little children! Must be that Disney magic :wizard:

Silverfox,
How are the water temps and weather at CC in January? My guess is the heat and humidity are much more tolerable, but is the water still warm? Just curious since we spent our days at CC floating in the water for the most part. That is awesome your DD is listening to the CD and watching the planning video. Just shows the impact the Disney Cruise has on kids (and adults). I know I have been wanting to watch the Travel Channel's episode about DCL just to see it again. I can't wait to hear and see more about the new ship.

Thanks,
Tony

Water temps in Jan? COLD!!! Well, I can't give you too much of an unbiased review, because I am a Floridian; intolerant to cold! The first day of this past Aug cruise, the water was kinda cold for my family & I. We could only brave it for 1 hr!! The second day we were in for several hours, as it seemed much warmer. We also :lovestruc LOVE :lovestruc hot weather - that's why we are no longer Ohioans ;) Reminds me of swimming in Lake Erie in August - I remember people referring to it as "bath water" at a balmy 72 degrees! Guess we could get wet suits for CC  I think we will still enjoy CC if it's sunny. Lounging in the hammocks with the drink of the day :goodvibes

Yes kids keep asking how long to our next cruise LOL. Unfortunately not until Aug next year. Only a 4 day but hoping to upgrade to the double dip again if the family we are traveling with can swing it. We enjoyed seeing you at the Wave too Tony!

I agree with Silverfox...water temps depend completely on where you live...to us first day at CC was also quite chilly, but we live either farther south in Florida...basically, if the water is not bathwater warm, forget it.

Interesting. The heat and humidity in Orlando killed us. I thought the water temps were great, but for me, anything above 80 is great. I know my DW likes 90 degree water temps but just jumping in to get away from the sun after walking from the ship felt refreshing. Hot or not, that trip was awesome. I loved CC and can't wait to return. I can't stop telling everyone how amazing DCL is. I hope we get another opportunity to meet again!

Orlando is more humid than coastal cities - speaking for us in Tampa, we usually have a delightful breeze which makes it perfect and totally tolerable. DH and I can count on about 10 "sweltering" days each summer, and that is usually it. People that come to visit us ALWAYS comment something like, "Wow, it's really not that hot in Florida!" Orlando, different story. It can get hot and stifling there, being central state.

Rebecca, I noticed your signature line stating Disneyland ABD Backstage Magic Tour. What does the "ABD" stand for? All our family is in the LA area and we ourselves are very due for an "oblication" (obligatory vacation) to visit family. We will need to find an excuse to break away from family and stay at Disneyland for a few days. I so want to watch World of Color.

ABD=Adventures by Disney Don't know if you listen to the DisUnplugged Podcast (done by the same people who own Disboards) but they are hosting 3 Backstage Magic Tours next year. John and I are doing the one in Feb. There is a thread for the trips on the DisUnplugged Board. You get to go behind the scenes at Disneyland plus Imagineering, Walt Disney Studios, Jim Henson studios, etc. We are also getting lunch with Marty Sklar. I never knew who he was until I listened to the podcast but he is like THE ultimate Imagineer, worked with Walt back in the day. If you want to do DL prob would add some days before or after the trip as it sounds like they keep you pretty busy. You do get time at the park and from the trip reports I've heard the last one they did in July did get FP to WOC. We are not taking the kids, although they are allowed to come. You guys should look into it, from what I've heard about the 2 trips they did this year it was a blast! It is a private tour BTW and you have to book it through Dreams Unlimited (also the same people who own this site and do the Podcast.) If you go to Dreams Unlimited site there is an area for ABD with more info. Also there are trip report threads from the one in May and June on the DisUnplugged board.

Thanks Rebecca for the information. That sounds very cool. We have an iPod but have never used it for listening to podcast. Perhaps its time we start. That tour sounds incredible and I'll have to look into it. I do like those behind the scenes tours.

The podcast is great! Great info and lots of fun! Definitely check it out. WDW Today is another one if you need a fun Disney fix.

Let us know if you decide to the trip!

Becky,

I checked out the ABD you're signed up for. Wow, that's sounds very, very cool. Liz and I are actually from that LA area, so reading the itinerary, you'll have some driving (with LA traffic) but it will be fun. Close to Hollywood (relatively speaking as you will need transportation), is an area called the Grove in Beverly Hills. There, they have an American Girl store (2 stories tall) if your daughter likes those dolls. Our first time there, we spent 3 hours because our daughter couldn't choose what she wanted. You probably already know this but I noticed you guys have some free time one day. Also, time permitting, there are some other great attractions in Hollywood. The Pantages Theater has Wicked (if it is still there). I can ramble on and on, sorry.

Anyways, I wish we could go. Unfortunately, our work schedule only permits the school schedules which means summer is our best option. I hope you guys have an awesome time in LA. Hopefully as I have said before, we can meet again, preferrably through another FE list. Our next trip on DCL is planned for summer 2012. We're just waiting for the schedule to be released so that we can choose and change our booking. We'll post dates then.

Cheers,
Tony

I'm definitely still here so please continue to post here. I loved your trip report thus far. I look forward to reading more.
