Ok, according to touringplans this is ultimate busiest time to go to WDW. It's a 9 on the richter scale . Please tell me it's not that bad, is it? It's just dh and I, no kids this time.

Do the parks empty out the later that they are open, such as on nights when MK has EMH?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. We are staying at the GF for the first time, also.

Well, it is indeed busy in early August, but it is far from the busiest time of the year.

We are going to be there at this time as well. I hope it's not a 9. Florida schools will already be back in, so I was hoping for crowds to be a little smaller, especially with the free dining to lure people from the Northeast to go at the end of August. Here's hoping!

We were there last year during first two weeks of August. It was busy, but you'll still have a magical time. The EMH evenings at MK were totally crazy. We ended up leaving MK and going to Epcot which also had EMH on the same night. Epcot was absolutely empty. It was sooo much fun - no waits for ANYTHING!!!! We'll be there from July 7 - July 14 this year (maximizing the use of our annual passes).

Going to Epcot is a very good idea. We too are maximizing the use of our annual passes!

Welcome to my nightmare! We will be there Aug. 3-12 with "9" crowds on six of our park days, "8" on the remaining two days.

I e-mailed TouringPlans because WHY ON EARTH would the first week of August be the ABSOLUTE busiest week out of the entire year, exceeded only by Easter and Christmas? They responded but they didn't address my specific question. They just said "summer is busy". Yeah, and fire is hot. But WHY is the first week of August going to be the heaviest traffic out of the entire year that isn't a major holiday? Especially since Free Dining starts the day after we leave! That makes absolutely NO sense to me.

We're still going, and I guess we'll assess the situation day by day. DS has a hard time staying up late so I don't see us being at EMH nights very often.

You have got a great point! I wonder if Tour Guide Mike has the same predicitions as Touringplans? We aren't true planners in the sense that we go by an itinerary day by day so I don't think joining Tour Guide Mike is for us. Plus we are going without the kids so we can in a sense do whatever we want. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens when we get there.

I've visited over this time period before, although our last few trips were in late July, and we plan to be there August 5-12 this year. Our last August visit it wasn't any busier than our late July visits. We actually like the busier times since there is so much going on. I was suprised to see the 9 rating in the unofficial guide.

Where's eveyone staying? We are back at Pop again. We love Pop!

We were there Aug 6-12 last year. It was busy, it was hot. But we did and saw everything without a problem. Just get to park opening and use FP's and you will have a great time!!

We are at AKL for the August trip. Mainly because it is my birthday and I make all the plans but also because we will probably spend more time at the resort since "park commando" and "August" don't seem to go together very well! Our friends are coming with us on this trip so it will be magical even if it is hot and crowded.

Our last 2 trips have been at Pop, and our quickie December trip will be at Pop, too! I am hoping to surprise DS with that one.

If anyone subscribes to TGM I would be interested to hear how crowded he thinks it will be, if that info is OK to share.

With just the two of you I don't think the crowds will get to you as easily. My DH and I went mid-July 2 years ago and the crowds didn't phase us.

However, I think you should go a week later and that advantage of Free Dining. It starts August 13th.
