August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Barb, Thanks for posting that link. She is such a good reporter and there are photos too! They may have gotten a few more gifts being the inaugural cruise out there (hats, scarves, etc.). Not sure if we will get anything on ours.

We haven't gotten our passports in the mail yet, it has only been two weeks but it feels like more to me. I downloaded all the forms but haven't looked at them yet (the ship ones). My DD loves to shop too, I think she got it from my husband's mother (whom she never met). She is doing extra chores to earn shopping money for the trip.

I think I am going to buy a digital camera before the cruise. I should get it soon so I can practice with it. We have a video camera that takes digital stills, but it is more complicated and larger to carry.

What do people bring for Pirate's night? I have no clue, maybe a bandana and an eye patch?

Everyone is welcome for the link. I love her weekly email newsletter about WDW.
I don't know if we will get any extra goodies or not either. Stacey will be able to tell us after her cruise next week. I'm just excited about the Castaway Club blanket, that's better than a beach towel.

I've decided we aren't dressing for Pirate night. I can't be bothered to bring along extra stuff when we will be gone for 2 weeks. I'm sure I will be mailing packages when I get to my friend's house as it is. Plus it's less I have to worry about.

The $2.39 gas is scarying me. It's $1.99 down the street from us and I hate to pay that.

DD loves to shop too, I have no clue where she got that gene from :confused3 :wave2: :bitelip: . (Watch your comments Stacey) She will know the CM's in the shops very well by the middle of the week, along with myself. She did get some Disney Dollars for her b'day which she was very happy about.
I think it was 2 years ago at Disney that she came up with a new attraction; the 'shopping attraction'. That way she could justify going in the shops instead of the rides. So when we went last year with my friend and his 2 boys all the kids enjoyed the new 'shopping attraction'.

Barb, I just passed a gas station with regular for $2.35 so thats a couple of cents less than Lauren said! All I know is I can't get out of the gas station under $50 and I use regular gas!

Hi all,
Glad I found this. We (DH, myself, DD 10, and DD 5) will be going on our first cruise together! Can't wait. DH and I cruised once before in the Caribbean, on the RCCL. Does anyone know if our daughters need to dress up on formal and semi-formal nights? Do most girls dress up? Thanks, Jinny :flower:

Oh, PUH-LEEZE.....you make a remark like that and I'm not supposed to touch it?? I don't know anyone (and I know a LOT of people) who could out-shop Barb!

Anyway....as you can see, I'm back. It was an interesting trip. But nice.

Just wanted to throw in a tid-bit...something that I always pack....Hefty makes these really big heavy-duty plastic bags that are perfect for dirty laundry. And they weigh nothing in the suitcase. They aren't trash bags....I'll have to look in the morning to see exactly what they call them. I've been using the same two bags for at least 7 trips, and they haven't torn yet.

Welcome, Jinny. I started this thread, but it turned out that my kids' school starts early this year, so we can't go. We're going this Saturday instead.
But, I wanted to answer your question. I would say that almost all of the little girls wear at least a sundress to dinner. And on formal night, you see a lot of the little girls dressed in Disney Princess dresses. Some wear very formal, frilly dresses, and others wear dresses suitable for church. My DD was 11 on our first cruise, and was not a "girly-girl"....but she ended up enjoying putting on a flowery little dress and small heels.

Looks like we'll need to go shopping for a nice dress. My older daughter is really not a "girly-girl" as she says so herself...My younger daughter, age 5, just loves to be in dresses or skirts. We were hoping to pack "light"...hope we still can as we're flying down. Thanks for replying. Aren't you lucky, to be going this Saturday! :flower:

That's a yes and no on "aren't you lucky". I am so NOT used to having less than a month to be ready to cruise. It's usually a year!
Lucky for us, we cruised at Christmas and can all wear the same things.....at least we won't know anyone on this cruise! LOL
I'm trying to go lighter, too....but I prepared the toiletries and meds and such today...they'll need their own suitcase! I just have this feeling that if I take something out, that will be the one thing that we'll end up needing!

I did get a new "formal" dress for this cruise....much more casual than what I wore at Christmas. It just seems like the Mexican Riviera should be more relaxed.
I hope I'm not wrong, and don't end up being "under-dressed"!

Right. I know what you mean, we've been thinking about that too...whether we'll be "under dressed". I just read on another thread from someone, who is posting live from the Magic, I think it's Deb. Anyway, looks like Formal Night is on Sunday. We have made Palo reservations for that Sunday night at 7:30 pm and now I'm wondering if we should cancel that time because then our girls willl miss it and won't get to dress up? We're at the 2nd seating and on a wait list for the 1st seating.

That's a tough one. A lot of people end up having to make that decision. I'd say ask the girls what they think. At least ask your older DD. There is still a semi-formal night that you might use to "console" them with if they're disappointed.

But I would maybe check first and see if you can change your Palo night...and go from there. It is pretty exciting to see the whole dining room full of people all dressed up.

Bedtime here........See ya tomorrow!

Hi Jinny - I'm Jenny and my DD16 Brynée and I will be along on this, our first, Disney cruise! I saw some of your posts to the other threads. In Mazatlan we'll be riding with Randi's Happy Horses and we have the dolphin encounter booked though DD did want to do the dolphin swim. Stacey, Barb, Cathy and Vickie have been a wealth of info re: the :boat: !!

Jenny thanks for your nice words. :grouphug:

 Welcome Jinny. It will be myself (the princess: shopper, according to Stacey), DH and DD 11. My daughter loves to dress up on formal and semi-formal night. I think she has 3 outfits for those 2 nights, it will be hard to make her choose.
You could always keep your Palo ressie and if you are able to get 1st seating you can sit with them at dinner while they eat and then head up to Palo at 7:30.
Any other questions just ask.

Look at that, Stacey returns and I get a T.O.P.

Welcome Jinny

Although I am REALLY new and not the expert like the others - one tip I did hear about if you are wrestling with the Palo vs. Formal nigt - if you do get an early seating switch (6:00) then ostensibly you could go to Formal night - just have appetizers or something light and then still go to Palo's for dinner. Or eat dinner at the first seating and dessert and drinks at Palo's. Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

As for my daughter - she's a real girly-girl - so is already lining up outfits to wear. We don't have anything REALLY formal for her and I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to buy a formal dress for her - unless she can still fit into it at Christmas - then I might relent. As long as it's on sale!

Take care!

Lauren

Hi Jinny and Welcome! My family is myself, DH, DS 16 and DD 11. My DD is not a girly-girl! Give her a bathing suit all summer and capris for dinner and she will be happy! Our last cruise was a 4 night so we didn't have formal night so we need to start talking about what she wants to do about formal and semi formal night. My guess is a skirt which would be fine with me. DS was talking tux a while back but I don't know if he was serious. He looks great in a tux, he was in his cousins wedding last June and if he wants to we may do the rental on the ship. DH has a nice suit but maybe we could do the tux for both.

My family is DH and DD13 (my shopper). We live in Connecticut so we will definately be flying out to CA. We are going to Disneyland for the 3 day package prior to the cruise. This is our 2nd DCL cruise, the 1st was April 2004 and we rebooked on board and then changed to the West Coast cruises when they announced it. We had to go in August because our school doesn't get out until June 22nd with all the snow days we had :cold:

DD13 (Jessica) is in two plays in July this year and school doesn't go back until August 31st. I wanted to do the Repo cruise, but that was during school on both ends (and perhaps high school orientation).

Stacey, I can't believe you are leaving on Saturday already! I hope someone does live reports from your cruise too!

Cathy

Barb - Sent you a PM with the corrected total. Was having a brain lapse after talking to car insurance agents!!

Okay, more questions from me (what's new?) Vickie, you mentioned renting a tux on the ship. Do you know how much that would run? I'm just trying to figure out if it's more cost effective to rent here or???

Thanks!

Lauren
