August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Ok Stace, I thought that since you got back safe and sound you would keep up from falling off of page 1. Boy was I wrong.
Glad you had a good trip.

What is everyone up to for Thanksgiving? Do you have to cook the whole meal or bring something to someone else's house?

My DH is the chef and he makes wonderful mashed potatos. He also makes turkey, gravy, turnips, corn, pearl onions, corn bread (store bought), a green vegie of some sort, stuffing (my favorite), etc. My sister and her family come over and they bring pumpkin pie, apple pie and mashed yams with marshmallow and brown sugar.

Did I make you all hungry? I am joining Weight Watchers (again) the week after so I am going to make the most of it all weekend. I tried over the summer but I couldn't get motivated. I don't know why I think I will over Christmas...

Cathy

Cathy, I get to cook the whole meal myself. Our Thanksgiving is going to be a little different this year. We won't have any family, just some very good friends of ours who are coming from Utah. They aren't arriving until Thanksgiving day so they won't really be here to help. All of our family seems to be going to the "in-laws" so I'm glad our friends are coming. It would be depressing without someone other than us because my Mom and I always used to do the meal together and she died a year and a half ago so this will only be the 2nd time I've done the whole thing myself.
I see the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow for my knee, hoping for a quick fix! Ha-Ha! The medical orthopedic doctor thinks the medial and lateral meniscus are torn.
Vickie

Vickie, OUCH that sounds like it really hurts. Good luck tomorrow ::yes:: .

We still haven't decided what we are doing for Thanksgiving. We don't know where it will be or who will be cooking. I'm hoping it will be at the beach since we haven't been there for a while. But we have to wait for my parents to get home to decide.

We are still fighting with the carpet company about getting our 3 rooms replaced. We are going to go look at more samples in a few minutes. Hopefully we can find something that they can install by next week. They are going to pay dearly for all their mess-ups. We just found out the carpet we picked out 3½ weeks ago wasn't ordered until this past Monday and it can't be installed until after the middle of December. That's not going to happen, I want to put my tree up and enjoy it this year. It's gonna be interesting.

That doesn't sound fun, what will they do to fix it if anything?

She said scope it and repair or clean up the tear. DH had his scoped a few years ago and after a couple days of pain he really got better quick. I've had pain for a month now so I'm game for anything thats going to make it better.
Vickie

Vickie....ouch!! Not fun. Megan has to have surgery on her knee, but we don't know what that entails yet.

Yes, I'm back.....sorry. We had a great time.

Thanksgiving is usually held at my friend's house, but he sold the house and is building a new one. So. I'll have 14 people here. I'm doing the turkey, gravy, a pie, and sweet potatoes. Everyone else is bringing the rest of it.
It's all the dishes afterward that I hate.

I guess the good part is that the sooner Thanksgiving is over, the sooner I can pack for the cruise.

And by the way, Vegas doesn't count as a vacation! It's just a quick little get-away.

TTYL,
Stacey

Well I saw the ortho surgeon today and I'm having surgery tomorrow. He happened to have a cancellation and gave it to me. Wish me luck!
Vickie

Where is everyone staying before the cruise? I'm trying to make my plans and have no clue where to stay.
Also, are there any car rental agencies near the port? We need to rent a car after the cruise and may get one before as well. I'm hoping Budget or National is nearby.

Vickie, that was very quick. Sometimes that's the best way to schedule something like this, no time to think about it.
Good luck with everything. Let us know how it goes. :sunny:

Vickie - Hope you are feeling better (at least enough to be reading the Forum anyway).

Barbara - We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel, I haven't been there before so it was all Greek to me. My TA said it was the only one available - he probably meant to his packages or something...

Cathy

I have booked rooms at 2 different places near the port. This way I know that I have a room and I can cancel the one I don't want as it gets closer to cruise time. Still trying to find out about a car rental agency near the port.
We are going to D'land after the cruise. We are heading up north for a few days to see friends and then we will head back down to visit ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo for a few days.

Good Morning everyone! Surgery went fine. I'm on crutches for a couple more days, then I can start increasing weight bearing. It hurts when I move it, or do those straight leg lifts they are making me do, but in between that if I get in a comfortable position I'm okay.
Have a good Sunday!
Vickie

We were on the very bottom of page one.

Vickie....hope you're feeling better today!

Barb....when we used to rent a car, we went with National. Seem to remember that they had a drop-off at DL...maybe not. But they always had backpacks with fun stuff for the kids.

We fly into John Wayne (I know you've heard this before) and we get a private super shuttle to/from the parks.
Since we are staying at the Grand Californian before the cruise, I thought it would be easier to just get Super Shuttle than to use DCL's transportation. And we've never had any troubles with SS.

I'm not familiar with any of the hotels near LAX or the port, sorry I can't help with that.

Cathy....you will love the Disneyland Hotel. There's a lobby area right near Goofy's Kitchen (which has THE BEST character meals anywhere ) that has old old pictures of DL and Walt, and the "stars" who visited there.
They had been booking only the 50th anniversary packages, but I had my TA switch us to just room and park hoppers. It's cheaper, and the package included a tour that we don't need to go on and an anniversary clock that I don't have to have. Booking "room only" also gave us the freedom to request room type & view. The package didn't let you make such requests.
At the Disneyland Hotel, view isn't much of an issue. Almost all of the rooms overlook the Neverland Pool and courtyard...cool view.
Or the Koi ponds and waterfalls...that's one of my personal favorites, it's so peaceful back there.

Dryer buzzed.....I hate laundry.....

FEEL BETTER SOON, VICKIE!!! :flower3:

Vickie....we were posting at the same time!!

Glad to hear it's not too horribly bad now. Hang in there!

T.O.P.????:Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

Yippee! (I get my thrills so cheaply)

I finally come in to chit chat and no one is here......:(

Vickie, glad to hear your surgery went well.

Stacey, everyone was surprised to see you in here that you scared them away earlier :teeth: :earseek:  . We are going to have so much fun in LV in Jan. ::yes:: .

Well.....
Except for when I'm gone at Christmas, and then to my mom's, and then to Vegas, and then to Vegas again.....I will be here much more often!! LOL

Nah...I'm more caught up at work, have things pretty much ready for the Christmas cruise, so now I have a little more time on my hands.

Time for bed.....

Goodnight everyone!!

:wave2: We were about to fall off of page 1.

We are going to Williamsburg for Thanksgiving - nothing like booking a trip at the very last minute. I booked it yesterday for Thursday to Saturday. But we will get there in time to cook dinner and eat in the condo. While it is cooking, DD and I will go to the pool and DH will sleep a bit.
Now I'm looking at booking a few days somewhere for the week after Christmas and then I have a trip to Phoenix and Vegas with Stacey in January. Wow, I'm beginning to sound like Stacey with all my little trips in between my big trips :teeth:  :hyper: .

Vickie, hope the knee is doing better.
