August 29, 2012 4 Night Bahamian Cruise

We are a family of 3 from PA. This will be our first cruise...DS will be 8 and while he is super excited, I think I'm more excited than anyone else!

I would like to participate in the FE, and I get the gist of it, but what types of items do you normally exchange?

Welcome to this cruise! :goodvibes
You are going to love DCL - the service is just out of this world and the DREAM is such a beautiful ship - lots to do and see there.

I am delighted to hear that you want to join our FE exchange - it is SO much fun and I'll add you to the list right away.

As for gifts - anything goes. There is a LONG thread that showcases lots of homemade gifts, but if you don't want to do that you can get something that represents your hometown, Disney themed things, emergency packs (tissues, band aids, wipes aso) sweets - you name it, it's okay. ;)

I need to dig for the photos of our gifts and post it once I find it!

FE participants...

I've started making one item for the FE participants :thumbsup2, but I was wondering about how many cabins normally participant in the FE?

This particular item takes some time to make (although I hope I get faster with more experience!), so I was thinking about making 20 or so, and then if more people start joining the FE to adjust...does that sound like the "normal" number of participating cabins?

Thanks all!

I am already working on my FE gifts too! ;)
We are cruising in three weeks next time and have participated in FEs on every cruise and there were rarely more than 25 staterooms. If there are too many we can always break them up into two groups! ;) :thumbsup2

awesome! that pretty much lines up with what I was expecting. I'll use 25 as my default (and if there are extras, I'm sure family would love some!!!)

Hi...Joining in from the Uk!...Myself, Dh and dd who will be 12 sailing for the very first time..:cool1:

You are going to love sailing with DCL. The service and entertainment is just outstanding!
You got a wonderful selection of resorts before and after your cruise too! :thumbsup2
See you on board.

I just made our Advanced Dining Reservations for our WDW stay before the Cruise..Starting to get excited.:cool1:

What's everyone doing in Nassau?

We have a tradition of walking over to the free beach ( Junkanoo Beach),do a little swimming and have a tropical drink and maybe stop in Senor Frogs.
We usually go into town and do a little shopping before heading back to the ship to eat.

That sounds like a great idea. Being our first cruise, I've just started to look into what we might want to do in Nassau. I also heard the Pirate Museum is good. I don't think we'll be springing for Atlantis.

I can't believe it's been a year since I started this thread. I kind of took a break from the Dis for a while, but I'm back now and getting phyched for our upcoming cruise. Hoping the time will fly.

I think I would like to participate in the fish exchange as well. I've never done it before. From what I understand I hang a thing in the fish next to our door and people leave us gifts. While in exchange I leave gifts for other participants. Could someone let me know if I got this right?

We just spent a day in Nassau during our President's Week Cruise on the DREAM and we usually just walk into Nassau and check out the Straw Market and the main street area for souvenirs, T-shirts and other fun items. There is a Starbuck's where you can get internet if you need to and we stock up on yummy rum and rum-cake.
If you want to do a little sightseeing there are some walking tours offered (no tourguide) ...... just google Nassau walking tours. These are pretty neat and walk past all their sights, including Fort Fincastle and the Queen's Staircase.
We always have lunch on board the ship and try to catch one of the ship's tours or a tasting in the afternoon. There is lots to do and see!

I have added you to the FE participants list and you are perfectly right. All you need to do is hang your "pocket-thingy" (sorry, don't know what this is actually called in proper English) on the fish/seahorse and other participants will leave you little gifts during your cruise. You will then do the same for your fellow FE participants.
Let me tell you, it is SO much fun! We have done it every year and it makes the fun complete!

In the time to come I will post a link to a list with all the details of the participants (names, ages and stateroom numbers) so that presents can be personalized by those of us who prefer to do so.
Shortly before the cruise I will post a map with all the decks and staterooms marked on it.

Thanks for all the great info on Nassau. I think we'll follow your advise and just walk around. I have seen the suggestion to wait until after lunch and use the morning to enjoy the ship since most people leave the ship in the morning and come back in the afternoon to enjoy ship activities.

Looking forward to the fish exchange. I'm not very crafty, but was thinking since we're from New England some things particular to our area.

I just wanted to mention for the fish extender that we have 2 staterooms. My family of 4 is in one and my mother-in-law is in the other. I just spoke with her and she wants to do the fish extender exchange too.

We will probably do pirate museum and straw market at Nassau. This is our first cruise and i dont want to be overwhelmed, so just playing Nassau day by ear!

Mommyjack, welcome to the FE!

I am working on the detailled FE list and we can just add the second stateroom there! No problem.
I will need everyones' first names and the children's ages for it, as well as the stateroom number once you have got it.
Just PM me and I'll add it to the list. :thumbsup2

Hey everyone! Just Googled traveling the Disney Dream on August 29, 2012 and found this forum. Myself and 25 other family members will also be traveling on the dream on the 29th of August! We are all from Newfoundland, Canada. I am so excited this will be MY first ever cruise, but the rest of them have already cruised a few times other than this one! I'm bringing my daughter with me she will be 17 months! I know she is going to love it, even if she doesn't remember we will definitely be doing it again the future!

Any how, only a little over 5 months left!!! :):goodvibes
