August 26, 2013 - Mickey Mouse, Midnight Sun & Whales!

son3disfan,
It's actually not that hot down here, and has been a little overcast. I keep thinking I need to get home to start packing! I am not enjoying this trip as much as I should because I have "Alaska on the Brain!!!"

I feel like I have had " Alaska on the Brain" for the last year and and half!!! Lol!

We are 20 days away from leaving... Wow!
I have to say I am almost as excited for Vancouver/ Whistler as I am for the cruise!!!
Looking forward to meeting up with everyone!

Anyone else going to try some tastings???
We have done quite a few, but really want to try the Mixology! Hope it is offered on our sailing.

Hey guys!!

Here is the spreadsheet that details participants. You can organize by cabin, by age, by sex, however you'd like.

Thank you for your wonderful organization skills.

My sister was looking up FE gifts online and found your website about the FE exchange you did in October 2012. She sent me the link, as she loved your FE gifts, and when I looked I told her that you were on our cruise...and the organizer of our FE group. :thumbsup2

We leave for Disneyland in 2 weeks then head back home to go on this cruise. Getting very excited!!

Hi everyone! I'd like to set up a beer exchange for our group and was wondering if anyone is interested. I would like to do this right after the meet and greet. You would bring a 6 or 12 pack of a local brew (or any favorite) and exchange one with everyone else. The actual number would be determined by how many people sign up. That way we could all get a taste of different parts of the country (and world)! It sounds like this practice is frowned upon in public places, and this is my first time on a cruise. Does anyone have any ideas on where we could hold this? I am going to close the sign up on Aug. 19 (Monday). I am not able to post the link because I am a noob. The link is on our Facebook page. Thank you!!

Ah, yes, that was our last Alaska cruise! :) I am not getting that elaborate this time, so don't get too excited. LOL!

Attention FE Participants:

Here are the final documents for our FE group! We have one cabin that has not updated their cabin number and I have left that cabin off the distribution map. If they update their cabin number between now and the cruise, that cabin number will be listed on the whiteboard of cabin 2139, along with any other cabin number changes (for folks who upgraded, etc).

A detailed spreadsheet which allows you to sort our participants by age, cabin, sex, etc can be downloaded here: http://www.stephaniecombs.com/junk/alaskafe.xlsx

Please print the following document out and bring it with you on the ship as it will make delivery of your FE gifts much easier! This is a ship map with participant cabins highlighted, as well as a full list of our participants. You can download that here:

http://www.stephaniecombs.com/junk/FEAlaska2013.pdf

The latter document is a bit large so it might take time to download.

Thanks to all who signed up! I look forward to our exchange! :cheer2:

son3disfan,
I would love to do a cooking one. We do not drink, so Mixology would not be for us. I see you did not do FE either! I kept going back and forth with it. I may do it for our Nov Cruise if the participation is small. Now only the 12th and 19th sailings to go before us! Getting close!!!

Honestly, the FE just doesn't interest me . Maybe if my boys were younger? I don't know. Some of the things people make are really creative though. Just not my thing. I am not much of a drinker, but when on vacation I do like to enjoy wine and fancy drinks! The tastings are quite informative too! A cooking class might be fun to try. Usually on sea days DH and I enjoy quite time in the adult only areas, like the pool or Cove. Love sitting on loungers in the sun! I have a feeling this cruise is going to be so different!

hey gang!! Getting closer and closer - woot!! woot!! Woot!!

Does anyone here know which nights will be formal and semi-formal dinners? I am trying to figure out how many sets of dinner outfits Dh and I will need. We are going to Palo one night, so if that night happens to be formal or semi-formal night, then that would reduce the nicer outfits by one....

hope everyone is doing well. Can't wait to meet and greet!!

Thanks for the information !!

Hi there Isutigger2!
I think I can answer your question...
From what I have read from previous sail dates,

FORMAL NIGHT- TUESDAY NIGHT
SEMI FORMAL ( usually Saturday) has been on Juneau Day- FRIDAY

Maybe it is on the Friday because our port time is longer on the usual Saturday night in Ketchikan. We leave port at 7 pm I believe. In Juneau, we have to be back on the ship by 4:30 so that might have something to do with it.

We booked Palo Wednesday night ( Tracey Arm night) . I have read that is a great night as you do not miss much from the dining rooms as the restaurant is repeated from the previous night.
The dining rotations are ( again from what has been posted)
PTTAPTA
APPTAPT
TAAPTAP
For those who are new to Disney, the letters are the first initial of the restaurant.
Disney has three restaurants for dining ( as well as the buffet on deck 9)
So ....
P- Parott Cay ( tropical themed)
T- Tritons ( French cruise- beautiful more formal decor)
A- Animators palate ( black and white animated room)

I hope to have the first rotation as Tritons is my favorite place to dine, and 3 times would be wonderful!

Edited to Add....
The taste of Alaska Menu is Saturday night.
So they will serve the lobster on Semi formal, Friday night.
Friday is also the Pixar Party in the atrium. ( which replaced our pirate night!!)

Thanks sonya --

We have reservations at Palo for Friday night so it looks like i'll need one less "dressy" outfit! works for me!!

I don't remember the back to back of the dining rooms before - do you know why they are doing that? Or have they always done that and I just don't remember!

Friday night is Pixar Night so I don't think we'll be missing anything much that night.

thanks again!!

Not sure about the back to back restaurants...we have never experienced that either.
We will probably pass on the Pixar Party. It's in the atrium too....not on deck 9.

Looking forward to chatting with you in a few weeks!

Oooooh! It just occurred to me that if you are in Palo on Friday then you will able to enjoy the lobster from PALO!!!! Not sure if they prepare it differently but it is soooo much better then what they serve in the dining room!!
Lucky duck!
( that us ....if you enjoy lobster!);)

Didn't know there was special lobster in Palo's!! Something else to look forward to - whoo hoo!

I just picked it out of the blue - no special reason.

Thanks for that bit of information. Can't wait for the next 10 days to go by -- we are leaving home on Saturday for vancouver

See 'ya real soon!

We leave in 8 days!!!!
Our Whistler Hotel has dropped in price twice now, any extra savings helps!:thumbsup2
Now if I could get the Pan Pacific hotel to drop in price too! :scared1:
The weather looks awesome for Vancouver, so fingers crossed!
Thinking I might not need all the warm stuff I have laid out. Our Alaska ports look lke they are in the high 60s through out the day. But it is too soon to be sure.

Ok....to the two or three people left on here, or those peeking in, :wave2:
It's time to sign off and say goodbye!
I wish everyone safe travels and hope to meet up on Monday!:cool1:

Just an FYI, for those planning on visiting Stanley park in Vancouver Saturday or Sunday, it appears there is quite a celebration happening. A 125 year celebration with lots of activities! Hope it's not too busy! We were really looking forward to biking around the sea wall and park!

Happy and safe travels to you, too!! Thanks for the heads up about Stanley Park. We were just hoping to visit the aquarium that day - hopefully it won't be too crazy.
