August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

I know Pirate Night is Nassau day.

Thanks, I was guessing that might be the case. I'm thinking the first day at sea might be formal night. I'm actually trying to plan Palo. The two times we have been it was pirate night. I kind of look at it like we don't know what we are missing :thumbsup2. But, I'm not thrilled with the Prince and Princess menu, and I'm thinking I won't have to buy DS a suit that he will grow out of in a minute! Of course, we might just have to be happy with what we get.

How was your trip on the Dream?

My wife and I are on board. We can't wait for our first Disney Cruise. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to sail from NY to WDW. The end of the summer can't come soon enough.

Welcome aboard!

Hi all,

It has been a while since I have posted. We weren't sure for a while if we were going to be able to do the cruise, but we have decided to go for it:woohoo:

Not sure if it is still to early but my DD (13) is interested in getting to know others in her age group. If any of you have children interesting in corresponding please send me a pm so we can exchange info.

I also had a question about transportation. We are from southeastern MA and are thinking about taking the bus from Providence RI (closer than Boston). We really can't afford to take the bus (or train for that matter)a day early and stay in NY overnight since we are really pushing it by going on the cruise anyways. My question is does anyone know if the bus is reliable? If we take it the same day and we take one that is do to arrive late morning, are the odds that we will make the ship? I won't trust flying the same day, but feel like the bus and train may be different. What are your thoughts.

Glad you are still aboard! I'll see if DS (13) is interested. My concern is that as much as he may be interested, he may not be much of a coorespondent. At the very least, he'd probably love to meet her on board, he's a really gregarious kid. If she likes to play ping pong, then he would definitely like to meet her!

We're trying to figure out the transport as well, but we are coming from the opposite direction, so can't be much help. Best plan is probably to leave as early as possible that day, and have back up plans in place. At least it is a Saturday so you don't have to worry about weekday traffic.

How was your trip on the Dream?

It was great just being on the ship again. I don't think I'll ever sail in february again though. It was too cold to do much of anything on deck. The only truly warm day we had was in Nassau. CC day was really windy and if you weren't sitting in the sun you froze. When we got back to PC it was 30 degrees. I'll stick to the summer months.

We just extended our trip to the USA by 11 days so have decided to do the Alaska cruise instead. Hope you all have a wonderful cruise:)

Happy Saturday to all! Five months tomorrow! Closing in on 150 days, too!

Got the kids passport picks taken today, and I'm going to take them to the "passport" office over spring break. One more thing to cross off the list. Yipee.

Hi Everyone

I'll be sailing with my family for this cruise - just received a random email from DCL reminding me of this sailing - so I figured I would drop by and say hi:wave2:

My DH, Jim, DD (10) Jessica, DS (8, turning 9 on board) James will be sailing with me (Jeannine).

Happy planning everyone :goodvibes

hi jandj524.....

it seems there are alot of 10 year old girls on this cruise...that's a good thing for my dd who is turning 10 next month....:cool1:

Can't believe it's under 5 months now....we've been on this board forever and a day....(or so it seems!) .... wow, time is flying....:cool1::banana::yay:

My DD turns 10 in May (double digits - can't believe it). She'll be so happy to hear about the other girls on the cruise her age :)

Hello everyone... I am going to be wrapping up the shirt lists soon... By the end of May I will need to push forward and get the final counts...

I am hoping that by now everyone has gotten to the Facebook page.

Haven't gotten enough responses on the Yankee Trader... So... I will make final attempts to decide by May.

The shirt template is fully finished. Some of you know the quality work we do... So just ask about them if you want to know something.

Until later...

If they notice then tell them you were conversing with some people you knew.

I justify all my time on the internet (researching and booking)because the kids know i am always on the look out for a good deal to the USA and they hold out hope that i will find one so they can come back maybe you could tell the kids your getting your passports just incase you find a good deal for a holiday.

How are you planning on surprising your kids with the cruise?
Our kids will find out we are flying to the USA on the day we leave I hope but we are thinking we wont tell them about the cruise just that we are going to NY which is near the end of trip and then when we check out of the hotel catch a taxi to the ship.
I am still trying to work all that bit out:)

I would like to join the facebook group but i am wondering if anyone can tell me how i do this without anyone else being able to see it the last thing i want is the kids to see i have joined a cruise group?

What is the benefit of upgrading card to Premiere?

We're going to upgrade to the premier card right before we have to pay for any of our cruises. It just makes sense.

As for dieting, last April (before we went on our August Alaska cruise) DH and I started the Tax Shape for Life Program. It's centered around medifast meals and you get a health coach. Well I was very skeptical but I have to say it works. This comes from a die hard weight watcher person. Before we left on the cruise in August my DH had lost 80 lbs and I had lost 50. Since that cruise I have had a hard time getting my mind set back on the diet, but I've lost another 10 and my DH is up to 117 lbs. I have to say we're walking bill boards for it. We hope to be at goal by the time we cruise again.

Passports, check! The kids are on spring break this week, so we went to the county protonotory (yep, that's what they are called) and applied for the kids' passports this morning. 4 to 6 weeks, and glad that is over with.

Sorry for the inconvenience... Docs.com crashed and I don't want to wait for them to fix themselves... I have uploaded a new spreadsheet to Google Docs. I need email addresses so that people can get access to the spreadsheet. If you would like to be part of the spreadsheet please send me a message on FB or PM me here with your email address.

What is the benefit of upgrading card to Premiere?

It depends. I've heard several different offers, but the baseline is that you get 2 points for every dollar you spend on groceries, gas and restraurants, and the same one point for everything else. Based on our spending (we buy alot of gas! Too much commuting), we would reach the $49 annnual fee in two months. Our special deal was that we get five points for every dollar spent on groceries, gas and restaurants for 90 days. I read that some were offered a gift card for first time they used the card, there may have been other deals. It made sense for us to upgrade, your results may vary.

If you don't already have a DV, you get a disney gift card (i want to say it's 100$) when applying for the premier card.

If you are upgrading your current DV, then you get the 5% back on everything mentioned in the quote above as well as 5% back on most disney items for the first 90 days (after that it is 2% back at the end of the promotional period). Cruise payments count for that, which is why we plan to upgrade just before our final payment is due. We are doing a B2B with the 5-night Canada, so that is 5% back on both cruises. Bonus!!
