*August 2024 Check-in Thread*

Good day, all! It doesn't look like any of my colleagues have joined here (and I know we have some DISnerds, so I'm pretty surprised).
I'll be attending a Veterinary Medical conference at DLH 7/30-8/5. Our group is called the DVMoms (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine- all moms) group. We're now a group of 19k strong (worldwide), I'm not entirely sure how many of us are making the conference.

Like many others, I'm a WDW veteran, but being from the south, I've never been to DL and I'm very excited. I'll be bringing my DD-14, but DVM dad is staying home to work.

We're staying at the DLH for the duration, our fave in WDW is the Polynesian (yay for renting DVC points).

I purchased 5 day park hopper tix with Genie+, some days will just be in/out around seminars. We're also used to having DAS accommodations, which I'm not even trying for under the new rules (ADHD, sensory processing disorder will unlikely qualify now), so our ability to ride may be affected and the extra days will probably be a good idea for us.

Excited to see Fantasmic at DL, we love the HS one at World. Looking forward to It's a Small World (really!), but sooo bummed about Haunted Mansion, as it's DD's favorite and she was so looking forward to it when we booked the trip last fall.

Ahhh yes, hoping to find a way into Trader Sam's. I didn't realize they took ADRs (at the Polynesian you just line up outside the door to get your name on the list), so totally missed that.

About T-2 weeks and counting.

Just wanted to say that I have pushed my trip from August to end of October. Heading to the October check in thread now!
edit: is there an October check in thread? Can't find it!
Hi! I didn't see a check-in for October yet.

We ended up having to move our trip too, but to the beginning of November...going for Fall Dapper days, so I'm excited about that. I almost want to start a November thread, but am worried I will jinx myself like I did with August!

I hope your October trip goes well. The bright side is, there is more time to plan and look forward to the trip 🙂

Thanks! I did find a thread with some October info and it looks like that is a busy time to go, but it really works better for me.

I’m a bit late to this party. We’ll be in the parks August 6 through August 9 and will stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

I’m a bit baffled about how many of our favorite rides will be closed. We knew about Haunted Mansion and Winnie the Poo, but I just found out that two more of our favorite rides will be down: Davy Crockets’ and Space Mountain.
😢

Definitely rough, I think I'm glad its mostly rides we can ride on the east coast too.

Agreed, the closures are crazy. Space Mountain was especially surprising since it's such a people eater. Maybe they had to do it next month, but it seems like a bad choice with all the other closures and start of Halloween at the end of the month (it's still on the refurb list for Aug 29, the latest the calendar goes out).

I think August will not be as crowded this year. All the closures, schools back in session and Tiana's not ready. Halloween Time will bring guests back in Sept and October. I called Walt Disney Travel Company today to ask a few questions about my hotel/ticket vacation package and was told according to operational plans...Tiana's will not open until the queue for HM is done. Her guess was the queue will not be finished until the middle to late fall....she said HM will be virual queue and possibly LL purchase option (though she said that idea was being thrown around). She also said Tiana's will not open until the HM gift shop is completed as well. My guess is Tiana's will open in early 2025 for the 70th - maybe January/Feb.

It's almost August!! Who's excited?! We haven't told our kids yet about this trip but I don't know how much longer I can hold out!
So excited! My two kids (21 and 19) have no idea I’m splurging on staying at GCH and have booked VIP at USH. I’m super excited! I’m just hoping Space Mountain will be up and running by the end of August.

We'll be heading to California on Wednesday and will get to DLH Thursday evening after we go to Universal. We got upgraded to the Villas. If anyone has any questions or wants me to get pics of anything just let me know. We'll be there until the 7.

I also splurged me and my kids (17&11) are doing GCH and Universal VIP.. here’s hoping for Space Moutain to open early

:wave2:
The Mr, surprised me with a trip to go to “go west”:jumping2: for our 1st offsite stay, originally mid October.

I had a gut feeling HM would be open for D23, surprised that OB started late August. More surprised to be able to grab not one but two nights of it, while @ WDW the end of June lol.

Arrive on Saturday 8/24 and depart 8/30. So, excited. JIK anybody still looking for a place to bunk, found a rate for premier room @ the Grand Legacy thru Sam’s club that was $600 less than the base room @ Candy Cane Inn, which was my first choice. I do plan on checking up until final cancellation date at any of the close Harbor properties.

I don't know, but if one of the elevators is down they can only get half as many people on the ride.
When I was there in early July, one of the elevator shafts was offline. I wouldn't be surprised if this is still the case. If so, this will indeed reduce the daily capacity and would partially explain the quick LL sell out times.

One tip - keep refreshing and Guardians will eventually pop up. You might have to try for 10 or more minutes but it will happen.

One day around July 4th Guardians was sold out around 3:00 pm. I kept refreshing over and over and eventually got a 9:30 time for 6 people. I kept refreshing over and over and eventually moved it up to 7:00 pm.

LL "sell outs" are only a temporary state at DL. Thrill Data has info about additional release times, and people are constantly changing plans and opening up availability.

I’m going in 11 days (for the first time!) and it’s honestly the ride I’m the most excited for and it’s been sold out before 11am everyday this week! I was going to start my day in DLP but might have to change to DCA!
Another option is to get in line close to park close. If you get in line right before 10:00 pm (park close), the wait will be much lower than what is posted (often half or less). As long as you are in line before the park closes, they will allow you to ride even if you don't actually get on the ride until after the park has closed.

Between rope dropping, going near park close, and LL refreshing, I'm sure you can ride multiple times without having to wait too long. I got in line for Rise during July right before the ride closes (which is at 10:00 pm even though the park stays open until midnight) and the wait was posted as 45 minutes. We waited less than 20 minutes to the first preshow.
