august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Thanks for the heads up. With no codes, my Alamo week (Aug 4-11) is still a whopping $450+. Still no movement. At that high, I don't even bother putting codes in. I'm still sitting on $145 total (fullsize) with Dollar.

Wow! That is crazy for just 1 week! I would stick with the Dollar too, although I've never used them. I would if the savings were substantial.

Still not budging on my rates for Aug 16 - Aug 24. Around $400 for standard size. I have a $200 rate with dollar and a $260 with National but would really prefer Alamo....guess I'll just keep checking :(

Wow..great rate with Dollar. I am not getting any rates worth cancelling the Alamo one though.

Using just the Alamo Insiders and the free upgrade, I have had a standard car booked with Alamo for 14 days (Aug 14 to 28) for $332 since about 10 days ago. Dollar is still winning right now with $287 for a full size car at MCO with all fees in. I'll decide in the next week or so which I am keeping
Those are both great rates...I missed the boat on the Dollar one I guess. Still checking and they are lower than Alamo right now, but when I factor in my travel agent commission that I get to keep, the Alamo one will still be the lowest at $348.11. Still will keep checking Dollar, although I have never used them before.

I just went through and ran the Entertainment Book discount for each participating company, and other than Enterprise, nothing even comes close to the current rates for Dollar (the city special) and the KLM discount with National. Enterprise was $330 for 8 days, taxes in, for a standard SUV (no midsize available) and $204 for a full size.

Still no response to my email inquiry to Flying Blue regarding the KLM code. I will keep you posted if they ever reply.

Gina, our dates (mine is 8/22 -8/27) and car needs (mid-size SUV) are sooooo similar that I watch your posts with bated breath! I love that I have someone to compare stuff too! :rotfl: :woohoo:

This is a great thread with a friendly group of people. Its nice to have everyone monitoring codes and rates together, and sharing info as it comes along. I am glad to hear that all the posts are helping!

lol, give it another couple of weeks and I will be looking for company as I watch for the formation of hurricanes over the Atlantic :lmao: . That is the point where I will stop obsessing over car rental rates and transfer my mania to something I can do even less about :rotfl: .

Have I mentioned how badly I need a vacation?!?!? :faint:

I haven't used Dollar before either but a friend of mine has used them repeatedly and swears by them.......wouldn't use anyone else! I figure they can't be that bad since she is pretty picky.:)

Me too!!!:rotfl2:

4 trips ago we had to leave 2 days early in order to avoid hurricane Bill which was due to arrive at my departure airport the very minute that we were scheduled to leave! On the bright side, we had two extra days in Florida but on the minus side, we were very stressed out!!!:scared:

Every year since then we start the hurricane watch about 2 weeks prior to leaving and shortcut the hurricane site for easy reference!

We arrived last August at the tail end of Hurricane Isaac. I think I still have a few gray hairs kicking around from the week prior to our departure :scared: .......stressful days indeed!

No kidding!!!! And yet, I can't help myself :surfweb:

We left Florida last year when Isaac just arrived! We drove through a deluge of rain on our way to the airport from Melbourne Beach but we made it home in one piece and not one minute of delay!

Funny.....I never worry about making it back home; just getting there! I don't want to miss a second of the Mouse! lol

2 years ago we left while Irene was making her way up the coast, not sure how but we missed everything. My family was home worrying about us driving and once we got there and saw the news from my area things changed and we were worrying about family at home.

I'm the same way, I just worry about getting there...I'm totally fine with being stranded at WDW for a couple extra days. :)

Just a heads up...for my dates of August 4-11, Alamo has just posted about a 50% reduction, knocking total with no codes from about $450 for a full size to about $225. Nowhere near Dollar, but at least I can play with codes a bit...

Issac never even came close to central Florida. There has not been a real hurricane here since 2005. We had some wind and rain but nothing of note.

You missed everything because she made a turn northward away from FL. Just a FYI, she was the first Hurricane to make landfall in the US since 2008.
I live here, LOL, so I do pay attention to hurricane season.

So......I have finally received an email reply from the KLM Flying Blue program regarding the use of the discount code from National. Here it is:

"Thank you very much for your message dated July 22nd 2013.

You would like to make sure that the car rental company National is a partner of the Flying Blue programme.

We can confirm that we do have a partnership in place with National.

Any car rental in a participating National agency allows Miles accrual, as long as the rental agreement is issued under the name of the Flying Blue car holder.

We do not have access to the Discount Code, however we can confirm that as long as you mention your Flying Blue card number when booking and when picking up the car, the Miles will be credited automatically.

Please note that the following rates are not eligible as per the partnership in place: utility vehicle, long term rental, replacement car, car rental with a chauffeur or discounted rental.

Should you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us on (+1) 800 375 87 23.

We thank you for your continued loyalty to the Flying Blue programme.

Yours sincerely,

Your Flying Blue team"

And as for the hurricane discussion , let me just say that I'm with Grumpy Cat:

Good Canadian girl that I am, you can give me a big ol' blizzard any day. At least I know how to handle those!!!!! :rotfl:
