We went last year for our first ever trip and while I did not have a plan written down as far as what ride to go on in what order I did have a plan in my head. From all that I read anyone that has a plan made for them or takes the time to write one down they forget all about after the first ride.

That's what I'm thinking too. I can plan all I want but it might just go out the window with excitement. lol I do have it on Google docs which I can access from my phone so having the plan with me won't be an issue just remembering to follow it will be. :rotfl:

I read the book for my first 2 trips. I really enjoyed it to get a sense of everything and how to tour. Warning - I'm a bookworm so all this reading is how I relax so ymmv. I read it multiple times, many times just to amuse myself. Now it's my 3rd trip and I'm not re-reading it. Mind you I also read about 3/4 other Disney guidebooks. I've calmed down on the Disney books. i did get them all from my public library:)

I love to read too. I checked my library first. I don't buy any book I can get at my local library. ;)

My oh my, this is one crappy day! :worried:

HOWEVER, the good news is that I am 40 days from WDW!!!!

I felt that way yesterday too! Can't wait for vacation! :)

It's only $10.99 on Amazon - free super saver shipping if you spend over $25 or free if you have prime. (I have prime and also have no trouble spending over $25, LOL) This year was the 2nd time I've bought the book. I also bought it in '09. If you don't want to buy it, check to see if your library has it. Mine has the current one of that, plus the birnbaum's, fodor's and I think one or two others. Plus they have a couple previous years editions of those and they have the Hidden Mickey book which I bought before our 2010 trip and will take for this trip. My boys didn't complain about riding It's a Small World because they were looking for Hidden Mickeys.
Yeah that's where I was looking at buying it. Just wondering if it was worth it. I prefer free library books and always have one or two library books on hand. My library had a few Disney books and the most recent was from 2010, the rest were older. They don't have the unofficial guides at all. I didn't actually go to the library and look at them just checked the catalog online. I guess I could go look at the ones they have. I just figured they were outdated and I could find better information online.

Thanks for all the responses!!

Is the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World worth it? I went to Barnes and Noble tonight thinking I would save money on shipping and buy the book at a b&m shop and it was 2x the price! Online has me spoiled. I was going to get the ebook version but all the reviews say not to because its not formatted correctly for it and graphs are cut off. I glanced through it and seemed like all the information I already knew from online. Then I looked breifly at his touring plans and he basically just says to go to his website (which requires a subscription) for the BEST information because his book could already be outdated. :P Then goes about with his recommendations.
So I figure my choices are:
a. Buy the book and follow his out of date tour plans
b. just get his website subscription
c. do both
d do neither and just do what we want in the order we want to do it. lol

I am leaning towards D. Since we are two adults and it will supposedly be less busy than peak season I think we shouldnt have an issue fitting everything in.

I agree with PP about checking the library. I have the '11 UG, and love it, but it's a lot of info. If you have a good understanding of the World and don't necessarily want a lot of background/explanation, then perhaps you could just subscribe online. You can get a code through mousesavers (or other places, I think) that will make the subscription be about $10/yr or so, and then you'll have access to all the touring plans. IMO the bigger benefit, though, is the Lines app - it is worth the subscription to me. You'll get wait times, FP times, and projections that are very accurate, and you'll be able to have a touring plan on your phone that you can update and optimize on the fly while you're there. Lines is the best product from touringplans/Unofficial Guide, IMO!

ETA: I would buy/borrow the book, though, if you enjoy reading about WDW. I do, and I found the book to be very enjoyable. It's quite lengthy, but you can skip the parts that you aren't interested in. It's not meant to be read cover-to-cover.

As far as wait lines go the new Disney Magic app has all that plus fast pass times, etc and it's free. :) You can't see that information until you are on the resort though. But if I'm at MK and want to check out wait times at AK I could. I've noticed lots of commericials for the app so it must be new and might just be for Verizon customers. Luckily we have Verizon.

I may still buy the book. I do enjoy reading about Disney!

I'm sorry that you are having a crappy day. If you need an ear or two there are plenty of us willing to listen.

My crappy day was Monday, but was expecting it to be so since I made the appointment 3 months ago. Knowing it was going to be crappy is why we are going to Disney in August.

The app is not new, we have used it for our last 2 trips and it was a life saver. And yes, I believe it is still only available for Verizon customers. Unfortunately, it is not compatible for my new phone, so we will download it on DH's phone.

The Disney MobileMagic app is available on iPhone, too. I've downloaded it but haven't used it yet, since it only recently (last few months) became available. I plan on trying it out along with Lines next month.

We will be at POFQ. I got my husband to agree to try a different resort. He only likes the Poly.

Have you ever stayed there before? Some day I would like to stay at Poly. Actually, my main goal is to eat at every cs and ts restaurants on Disney property and stay at least 1 night in every Disney owned resort on property. (I will probably have more luck once I don't have to pay for my kids) :confused3

Thank you, it does give me an idea. I wonder if the bass fishing is catch and release because I can't imagine what you would do with a fish once you caught it.... I'm picturing a school carnival with a gold fish in a baggie but this would be BIGGER fishy! :p

Yup catch and release. My one suggestion is to get him to go in the AM. Hubby's was in the afternoon and the fishys were sleeping. But it was still the biggest bass he has ever caught in his life. Not as big as the muskie up here in Minnesota but big enough for fun

We will be staying at Bonnet Creek July 25-Aug.4 SO EXCITED!!!!

I'll miss you by just a couple of days

The whole team August thing got my creativeness going so I made a couple LGMH too :goodvibes

Seriously considering changing my resort from a nemo family suite at AoA to 2 rooms at CSR or CBR. Since the summer discount price is cheaper or close to the same as Our rack rate. Unless Disney gives AP discounts soon that include AoA, we might change. If AP discount is really good, maybe we will do POR or even a delux!

42 days away for me and paid in full as of last Saturday!!

My poor daughter was there when I clicked the button to make the last payment and she had to endure my World Famous "Paid In Full" dance!!

The only thing worse then that dance is my "We Made it Into the Room" dance!!
