August 2012 code watch

Well, hubby told me he can't get off the week I wanted to go. I wasn't going to cancel yet, because he's just applied for a different job, but now I have to take a few days off next month, so I won't have enough vacation time for August anyway. SIGH!!!
Thought maybe going over Labor Day weekend (yay free dining!), and now my 9 yr old is upset because he doesn't want to miss school (because of the makeup homework, NOT the missing school part ;)). What to do, what to do...:rolleyes1

What are the AAA rates/deals for August? We are going 11-18. Since there are currently no deals for that time, thought about joining AAA if there is a deal. Also, what else do you use AAA for? Is it worth it?

TIA!

I initially was going to go to WDW August 15 - 22 (booked our flights back in Dec when JetBlue first released flights from RIC and they were cheap) and I had a room only ressie at POFQ w/AAA discount of 15%. I also got a quote for a villa at BWV because DH requested more space and that AAA discount was 20%. It's worth a call to Disney to see what's available with a AAA rate. The Contemporary was not available when I was doing my research. We ultimately decided to can our WDW trip and go to US/IOA instead....to many rehabs for us right now going on at WDW.

O-M-G! THis wait is KILLING me! I am constantly thinking of WDW and how bad I want to be there and there is still 5 months to go!!!!!!!!!!!! This wait is harder on me than years past for some reason!

I am so stressed!!!! I want to plan my 10 year anniversary trip, but the length and accomodation level for the trip will change depending on a deal for our dates the first week of August. I really want a pin code for my dates, but I haven't gotten one yet. I'm so frustrated. I was really hoping for a longer stay and a deluxe resort. I'll be lucky for a short trip at a moderate at this point.

I got the one for free dining in June, but it's useless to me. Last year, I got multiple pins. This year, I don't think I'm going to get one. :sad1:

:worship:Come on pin fairies! Send me something good! :worship:

As the other poster who answered your question said, call right away and ask if they have any rooms available at that rate, because they do book them up and have a limited number available. I think AAA costs about 50 dollars a year, so just one trip discounted rate pays for the membership, if no code ends up being available to you. Of course, if you break down you call them- but there are discounts at other places too, like movie tickets for your theaters near your houses, places like sea world, other parks, lots of places, go on their website to see the list.
If you do decide to book that way, however, I believe they ask your number when you book and not when you get there. So you would need the membership on booking. They have offices all around. However, you should be able to just call and get the rate and then just say you have to think about it. However, you risk it not being available when you call back.

The package rates are about 10% better...and you get a discount on some Disney stuff like the big Disney store at DTD. Plus, if you ever lock your keys in your car or get a flat...highly useful to have!

:lmao:I was going through the same thing this afternoon. I must be driving my husband and friends crazy wwith Disney stuff. But I can't help myself.
I just hope these 5 months go by quickly and I can stay busy. I am so thankful for this board.

I got a 30% PIN today valid for our dates.... addressed to the man we bought our house from in 1990!!!!

Thank GOODNESS we had already gotten a 30% PIN. Otherwise I would be soooooo very unhappy right now.

Just wondering if someone can help me out...this will be the first WDW trip I book entirely myself. If I book, say Wednesday of next week without any kind of pin or discount, and get some sort of code say in April or May somehow, can I still apply that to my trip? Will Disney automatically apply it?? Thanks so much for any help!!

Yep. Just call, right away when the discount comes out (if it's a general release) or when you receive a PIN, and they will apply it for you.

Right... it won't be automatic, you'll have to call. But they can apply the discount.

Really not liking the discounts offered for Aug. I guess Disney is doing well because I have been talking to a bunch of Aug. goers who are upset with the late dates of FD. Several are planning Universal and I know I am seriously considering off site and if Disney does not offer anything better it will have to happen. I am holding out hope but if nothing comes by the end of May I will have to commit.
Anyone else considering off site for the first time?

I wish a room only discount would come out. I need to book a room only for the first night before our FD starts. If there is a bounceback we are booking for 2 weeks. I just find that the FD dates are getting slimmer and slimmier. Last year the bouncback offered started on the 17th I beleive. So I just assumed that would be the same as the GP offer but not this year.

I have FD but hoping everyone else gets what they are looking for.

We are tossing around the idea of an off site stay, there are several really good hotel offers near DTD - queen beds, larger room and some even offering bfast and free parking but then you have to consider the extra cost of a rental and then parking at WDW. IDK, we really like staying on site and using WDW transportation so we're in a wait and see mode too. Even tho some of the DTD hotels offer transporation to the parks I have to wonder how efficient it would be :confused3

I gave up on FD for our early AUg dates but it sure would be nice to at the least, get a resort discount. Oh please, please, resort discount fairies pixiedust:

You might want to check out this site if you're still undecided: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2739937

We've always stayed on-site too - but the price is getting to be too much for us. For less than it would have cost us at a Value, we're staying at a 3 bdrm condo (not exactly on Disney property, but within walking distance of CBR) and it includes shuttle service to the parks. It might be worth considering.....

To be honest, if you're staying off site as a reaction to the lack of offers, it might not hurt to let Disney know. I don't think they would turn around and offer you something, but perhaps enough letters might make a difference for the future. It couldn't hurt.

I think letting Disney know that we are not happy paying rack rate for our room and full price for food is a good idea. We have been sending Disney messages through the contact link on their website saying we are disappointed about the lack of good discounts for August. They respond saying that there are a lot of good offers out there and to keep watching for new ones. We then send them the message again. We will keep it up hoping something good will be released.

Last year the general public summer discount didn't come out until May 1st. I'm sure something is forthcoming.

I hope this is true, if not I will have to book Bonnet Creek or Windsor Hills. I was talking to my bff work and the harsh truth is money is tight we scrimp and save happily all year but we can not make our budget grow. So if we have to pay for food, something has to give our budget just can not grow, it is what is and we just barely make that cost we will have to find saving where we can, resort...I had even planned to do other parks and not do Disney but my kids outright revolted, so it is still will be Disney. However, I wonder how many others like me are planning to take their Disney dollars else where?

When we go to Disney, I do not shop, I do not splurge in any way the trip is the splurge. I just will have my tip money and enough to buy a mug and some magnets. My kids are very upset not to be staying at POR, but at least we can still go it will just have to be different.

For a family of 5 free dining is the only way we can afford to stay on site.

I know this is a luxury problem, but in my world it is important. Cost of everything is going up, up, up, but my paycheck is not. :rolleyes1

So pardon my whining, just figured here on this thread others may be feeling what I am and I would feel better for sharing. Waiting is hard for a planner like me, this will be my 4th Aug. trip and usually I have everything set in stone by now the not knowing is killing my type A personality:sad2:
