August 2008 - who's going?

Taking our first trip to WDW August 17 - 23. We will be staying at WL. We haven't purchased air yet - but DH snagged 3 free round trip tickets in the continental US so we will only have to actually pay for 1 ticket!!

Am planning on the 19 - 28 with my DGD's at the POFQ!!! We went last year with my DS and his family during this time and had a ball. We stayed at AsM but this year we are going back to our favorite resort!!!!! Will be booking after the first of the year!

We're going in August too!

I know some people were asking about getting the AAA discount before. I just called today (11-26-07 ) and booked a room only, water view at the CSR for 7 nights (July 28 - Aug 4, 2008). Standard price was $1551 but it went down $181 to $1370 with the 15% AAA discount. I spoke with Damien at 10am central time today (Monday). There was no wait time on the phone at all, he picked right up. He was very friendly, asking me how cold it was in the Chicago area today. He welcomed us back for our 6th trip and thanked us for our business.

I figured out all the money angles ( ) and our best deal is the AAA 15% discount on room only and then buying our Hopper passes online at www.floridaorlandotickets.net ....

We loved the Dining Plan in 2006, but I figured out the costs at the same restaurants (I checked the notes from our last trip and then viewed the current menus online) and without the appetizer and the tip, the new '08 plan would not be a value for us.

If we could have gone just exactly one week later (but we can't due to my DW's work schedule), we would have saved another $221 because it would have been both a cheaper "season" and the AAA discount goes up to 20% then! Darn! Oh well, gotta go when ya gotta go!

I think I better get our tickets in case the price goes up after the first of the year. The website f.o.t. seems to have the best deal on tickets.

Then I gotta book Disney's Vero Beach Resort because we drive there after WDW!

After five driving trips to Orlando in '02, '03, '04, '05 and '06, we really missed it this year ('07) because DW was getting her Master's Degree.

But we're going back with a vengeance in '08!!!

This will be our first repeat stay at a WDW resort and we chose the Coronado Springs Resort! We sat down and all three of us decided we liked it the best!

By the way, we picked up our Christmas tree yesterday and decorated our home, so now we're in the spirit of the holidays and Disney World!

Can there be such a thing as too much Mickey?

Well, it's official! DD6 and I are going back August 13-21. I booked flights today, $118 RT from Newark (more with all the taxes). I haven't decided on resort yet.

:QUOTE]

Is that the $148 flight I'm seeing from Continental? I've been hemming and hawing about booking it, since it will cost a fortune to get to Newark from Long Island. But it's a lot to save for the 5 of us..:confused3

I think it ended up being about $140 or so with the taxes added in. I can't remember the exact numbers now--it was less than $300 for both round trips total. We are lucky because we can take the New Jersey transit commuter train to the airport (we live only a couple of blocks from our station). Have you looked into taking PATH from the city or one of the shuttle buses from Port Authority? (Kids ride free on those buses, if you have young ones) That might work if you can get into the city, and they don't cost too much.

My family and I will be there from August 18th to the 30th and will be staying at the Contemporary, on the Atrum Club Level floor.

Which weeks in August are "value" season? Lower crowds? I know that ALL of August will be hot and sticky, but our annual May trip looks like it won't be possible this year due to schedule's!!

For value & moderate resorts, value season starts August 3rd. The whole month of August is value season for deluxe resorts. Crowds get smaller the later in August you go as more schools start classes.

Add me and DS to the August list. We will be going 8/3 to 8/17 staying at Pop with AAA discount. Then we are going back at the end of the month on 8/30 for a week of free dining we got from the bounceback last September. We got an AP on our last trip and are determined to use it to it's fullest.

I am hoping that the beginning of August will be a bit less busy since the free dining doesn't start till 8/30 this year. We went in August of 06 and it was not crowded at all till the day free dining started then it was crazy busy.

I think we've narrowed down the week. We have AAA should I book now with that and if a better "Code" comes out then switch? We are thinking of WL. We've stayed at Dixie Landings, ASmovies, ASmusic, French Quarter, and POP. We figure if we go during Value season, we should try a Deluxe!

We are booked to head back to WDW on Aug 17th and staying until the 23rd. This time we will be going with my sis, BIL and Nephew. It will be my 7 year old nephew's first trip. So far it look like we will be staying at SSR. I will grab airfare from SWA at the 6 month mark.

Add me and my family to the list!!! We will be at ASSports 8/3-8/9. This will be our second trip to Disney but first trip with DH's twin brother and his family. This will be a trip we will never forget. Just hope I don't get depressed when we leave again....LOL!!!!

We'll be at ASMusic Family Suites from August 3-10. I just booked the Around the World Segway Tour for August 5th at 8:30 if anyone is looking for a fun group to take the tour with! :)

DH and I will be at AKL from Aug 5 - 17th - Savannah View - AAA rate! We will be celebrating our 4th anniversary while we are there (Aug 7th). Cant wait to FINALLY go! We have been booking and rebooking this trip for 5 yrs now! Its time we finally went! This will be my 6th time, DH 2nd time, and our 1st time at AKL. Cant wait, counting down the days!

We just booked 10th-17th at Pop with the 40% off code. :yay:
Never been in August before, Sept., Oct., and May. How are the crowds? Even DH is excited. We are not going to tell DD7 it will be a total surprise.

It was a email from Disney that has a code that is attached to your name and I've been reading on the boards that not everyone got them and if they tried to use someone's code the CM's say they can't. I even read where it was someone's sister and they said no that the sister would have to go with and have the reservation in her name. Sorry.

Hoping to do late Aug. with FD. Got hooked in 2005 (8 days WL) and 2006 (12 days BC). May have to move down to moderate or Value to continue frequent and long visits. Wondering if moderates will disappoint family of six, all kids of 12,15,18 and 20.
