I never posted a whole meal review from our August trip but here is a list of where we ate and I would be happy to answer any questions.

We stayed at the YC concierge so all breakfasts where there except one

Hoop de doo
YC Galley - breakfast and lunch
Spoodles- dinner
Flying Fish- dinner
Chefs de France- dinner
Beaches and cream - lunch
'Ohanas- dinner
Palio - dinner

I'll bite! I'd like to hear about all of them, but particularly YC Galley, Spoodles, Palio, as I'm not sure whether to include them for our BCV stay in December.

I would love to hear your reviews on Flying Fish and Ohanas. How was the food( Including desserts) and atmoshphere?
Thanks:smooth:

Palio was our anniversay dinner. We left the kids at the Sandcastle club which they loved. We had some great meals this week and Palio is right up there with all of them.

We started out with a seafood risotto appetizer. This is actually on the entree menu but we got it as an appetizer and shared. We then had Insalata del Palio - red oak leaf salad with black olive vinaigrette topped with toasted pine nuts and gorgonzola cheese. Mine was without the cheese as I am not a fan of it.

Entrees were Costoletta Alla Fiorentina - Veal Chop braised in white wine, served with sauteed spinach and sage infused wine sauce and Piccantine di Vitello al Marsala - Veal scaloppine with Marsala Wine Sauce, mushrooms and Sage Gnocchi.

My husband had some wine and I just had ice tea.

Everything was wonderful. The sage gnocchi with my veal was out of this world. The ice tea is a blackberry sage ice tea which I wasn't too sure about but it was so good I am on a hunt for it at home.

Everyone was dresses either resort casual (nice shorts and a collar shirt) or slacks and a nice shirt.

We would definitely eat here again in a heart beat. Our waiter was Roberto who has been there for 13 years and was everything you expect from a great waiter. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant as it has some nice alcoves where tables for 2 are so it makes it romantic.

I did notice that they put bigger parties in the middle of the room and parties of 2 or 4 in the cozy spots. The restaurant is not very loud like some can be.

I give it a 9 for food, 10 for atmosphere and 10 for service.

This trip we had a few adult only meals as our kids really liked the sandcastle club and asked to go to it a few times. This is a first for them as they usually don't like kids clubs and prefer to go out to dinner with us. My husband is a chef and they are used to eating more upscale foods at home like you would get at a finer restaurant. Just wanted to give a background. Our kids were 5 and 7 during the trip.

Spoodles - another adult night. We decided instead of getting an entree we would get a few different tapas and share everything.

We had the following
Arugula Salad -With apples, gorgonzola cheese, spiced walnuts, and warm smokey bacon vinaigrette
Sauteed Chile Garlic Shrimp
Grilled Lamb Skewer With Tzatziki Sauce
Roasted Garlic and Four Cheese flatbread.

This was a great idea as it gave us a sampling of different foods. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the salad. I thought the combination would be a little strange. I asked for the gorgonzola cheese to be separate from the salad as I don't eat it and my husband loves it. The flavors in this was amazing and would have loved an entree portion of it if they had it. The shrimp had a little kick to it but wasn't too spicy. Everything else was just as good.

This restaurant is very casual and saw all types of dress from slacks and shirts to shorts and tank tops. For those of you that haven't eaten here it is a loud restaurant because of the high ceilings.

I had ice tea and my husband had a glass of merlot

I give it a 10 for food, 8 for atmosphere and 9 for service.

YC Galley
we ate here for breakfast one morning and then lunch later in the week.

Breakfast - kids had mickey waffles
I had the oatmeal and DH had eggs with potatoes and sausage. I am not a big breakfast fan so I don't have much to say on this except the food was very good, hot and cooked perfect. We had coffee and the kids had a smoothie.

For those of you that like buffets, the YC galley does offer a breakfast one in addition to a regular menu

Service 9, food 10, atmosphere 8

Lunch
kids had clam chowder and shared a chicken fingers
I had Black Angus Cheesburger with your choice of sauteed mushrooms, onions, and cheese
DH had Yacht Club Sandwich -Turkey, ham, bacon and cheddar cheese with roasted garlic mayonnaise on sun dried tomato basil bread

We arrived at 1:45pm, the restaurant closed at 2pm. Again everything was hot and cooked perfectly. The portions here are huge and if you aren't a big eater sharing would be a good idea.

I wasn't too sure what the quality and service would be so close to closing time but it was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and we weren't rushed at all.

josierac,

Did you take your kids to Chefs? If so, how did that work out?:D

'Ohana
We were looking forward to Ohana as we had eaten there the year before and really enjoyed it.

The kids love it here with the hula hoop and coconut races.

I really liked the old wontons they had this time they are crunchy vs the regular steamed ones. They tasted good but I prefer the other ones.

The food was good but not great as it was last time. The shrimp are big and they were on the spicy side this time. My kids love shrimp but they couldn't eat more then one as they were too spicy for them.

I don't know why but this time around we weren't too thrilled with the food. It was good but not great. I would try it again but after we try a few more restaurants that we haven't tried yet.

We had the dessert that came with meal. The pineapple with caramel sauce and it was good as always.

Flying Fish -
we loved this place. I have to say that it's not for everyone. They do combine a lot of flavors together which may not appeal to everyone. If you are a picky eater take a look at what your are interested in is prepared with.

Now my kids would have normally orderd fish or steak but low and behold they wanted mickey pasta. I was trying to not let them order this as I knew from when they were 3 and 5 and ordered it they didn't like it too much. I think it's the consistency of the pasta. Well they weren't too thrilled with this order either. They were going to the kids club after this so I wasn't too concerned of them not eating too much. My DD did have some of my appetizer.

The waiter also gave the kids a list of things to find around the restaurant. He told us that the kids can walk around and look for everything on the list. I didn't feel comfortable letting the kids go on their own (didn't want them to bother other diners) but I did go with them to find a few things.

The waiter was great and even brought cherries with the kids drinks. He had them on top of the lid for them and then even brought out a bowl of them. Can you say too much sugar ;)

This is what DH and I had.
Appetizers
*Peeky Toe" Crab Cakes with "Flying Fish" Slaw and Ancho-Chile remoulade
*Ahi Tuna Tartare -with soy-cilantro vinaigrette, wasabi creme fraiche and sesame crackers

Entrees
Coriander Crusted Yellowfin Tuna -With shiitake mushrooms, soba noodles and miso vinaigrette

Desserts
*Banana Napoleon with crispy phyllo dough, vanilla creme brulee and warm caramel sauce
*Chocolate-Hazelnut Bombe -With creme Anglaise and chocolate sauce

Cappucino, espresso, we also had some wine

The crab cakes were great and had a lot of crab in them the chile remoulade wasn't very spicy but had a nice bite to it.

I didn't taste the tuna tartar but DH enjoyed it.

We both had the same entree and the combination of flavors was very interesting and very good. The noodles are served cold and that in contrast to the warm tuna was an interesting combination.

My dessert (chocolate) was ok but the banana napoleon was out of this world.

Flying fish has the best cappucino. The foam never disappears.

I like the open kitchen at this restaurant and if you are at disney solo it's a great place to eat as you can sit at the counter and watch them cook. It's also nice for anyone that is interested in watching them cook.

Everyone that I saw there was dressed in resort casual. More casual then Palio.

Food 9.5, service 10, atmosphere 8

Yes we took the kids to Chefs de France and it was fine. Again my kids are used to going out to dinner at both neighboorhood places and more upscale places, so I didn't feel out of place with them there. Let me put it this way my 7 yr old daughter could sit through dinner at V&A and taste everything that they put in front of her. My son, even though he would taste the food would not be able to sit through a 3 hr meal but 1 hr is fine.

There were also a few other families with kids.

This was a last minute decision and we walked up to the restaurant at 8:30pm and were seated right away even thought the restaurant was packed.

The kids had the fish and chips (which is filet of orange roughy with fries) and the hamburger (which is really real ground steak on a brioche bun, there are 2 of them on the plate). They also had some of our food both appetizers and entrees.

Appetizers
*Casserole of escargots from Burgundy in herb butter with a hint of garlic
*The classic onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese

Entrees
*Lamb shank slowly braised with thyme and garlic served with onion potato gratin (both kids had some of this and enjoyed it)
*Roast breast of duck with a sweet and sour orange sauce, served with imported green beans and grilled polenta

Dessert
*warm upside-down spiced apple tart with vanilla ice cream
*creme brulee

I love escargot (I was brought up with it and have eaten it from the time I was old enough to eat table food) I liked this one but there was just a bit too much butter in it. My DD ate half of them and my DS loved to dip the bread in the butter and garlic.

The soup was really really good

My lamb was out of this world and it was so tender you didn't need a knife for it.

DH said the duck was good but a little overcooked for him. I tasted it and tought it was very good. He likes most of his meats in the rare to med rare category. I like mine in the med well category. He would order it again, as he liked the flavor, but would ask for it to be cooked a little less.

Creme brulee was good
the apple tart was fabulous.

I am trying to get DH to write a review and I will post it.

He is much better at it then I am, especially since food is his business.

Hoop de doo.

We had done this 1 1/2 yrs ago and really enjoyed it so we went to it again.

The kids loved the show and we did as well. DH got picked to go on stage and the kids and I were laughing so hard that it was hard taking pictures.

The food is ok but that is not why we go to this. We really enjoy the show.

The ribs were good even though a little heavy on the BBQ sauce. I thought the chicken was a little salty but I am not a big fried chicken eater.

I thought the food the first time we went was much better. I wouldn't hesitate to go again though.

Beaches and Cream

We went here for lunch one day while at the pool. Wonderful place I just wish it was bigger.

I had the burger, DH had the rib eye sandwich, kids had the chili and the grilled cheese sandwich.

Dh also had the sugar free vanilla shake ( not on the menu) and it was yummy.

Fun place and we will be back to it.

If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them

Thanks for the details on Palio and Flying Fish. I think FF will be on our list for our May 2003 trip.

I am sitting here with my mouth watering!

Definitely going to re-think our restaurant plans.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences!
