I'm so happy to see you post, Lynda. You've been in our thoughts.

My heart aches for what you have been going through.

Best wishes...

Dearest Lynda and Mike,

Thank you very much for posting, you have been in our thoughts and prayers. We cannot even begin to imagine your sorrow. You must see everyone elses lives going on as normal and wonder why did this terrible tragedy happen? We pray for God's peace and courage for you both, and for David and your daughters too.

God Bless, wishing you His help with your decision for the cruise next year...it may be just too rough, or it may be healing. You both will know when the time is right, we will pray that the Lord will guide you with this decision.

Take good care of yourselves.

Love and prayers,

Barbara

I saw it as I was driving into Portland this afternoon. Pretty cool but not as impressive as the first time she blew!

Hey, I missed it! I had to hear about it on the news!

Everyone around here is fine! Did not feel or see a thing. Mount St. Helens is about 50 miles from Portland. If it erupted on a larger scale I am sure I would have noticed.

I lost the bet at work - I said it would never erupt. Mostly I didn't want it to erupt as we have yard work to do this weekend, and I've heard that volcanic ash is similar to cement. However, it appears that it is such a small eruption (so far anyway) that we probably won't even get any ash.

Lynda, it's so good to hear from you. I think of you and your family daily.

Glad to hear that the eruption was a minor one!

I took yesterday off but I heard our newsroom turned the 20 minute eruption into a 3 hour news cut in!

Glad all of our Oregan neighbors are AOK...my, what Mother Nature is capable of... What are the prospects of future eruptions? Are you all out of harms way if she blows more? Please let us know!

Happy sailing to everyone, looks like some are on the ships this week, and soon there are trips for others - YAHOO for you guys!

Happy Saturday!

Barbara

After the eruption the volcano was quite for about 2 hours. Then the earthquakes started up again. They figure there will be another eruption in the near future.

I am sure the observatory is very busy today. They are telling people they are safe to go up to the observatory because it is 5 miles away. No Thank You! Five miles is too close for me! We have been up there before and the view of the volcano is spectacular! Anyway, I think today will be draining the hot tub and yard work. It is supposed to get up to 80 degrees here!:sunny:

Have a safe and magical weekend everyone!

Hi rsschneck, paulcrsb, DonnaDavid, and our other Oregon friends,

Just read that Mount St. Helen's is going to have a large eruption.

"SEATTLE (AP) - Government scientists raised the alert level Saturday for Mount St. Helens after its second steam eruption in two days was followed by a powerful tremor. They said the next blast was imminent or in progress, and could threaten life and property in the remote area near the volcano.

Hundreds of visitors at the building closest to the volcano _ Johnston Ridge Observatory five miles away _ were asked to leave. They went quickly to their cars and drove away, with some relocating several miles north to Coldwater Ridge Visitors Center.

The volcano alert of Mount St. Helens was raised to Level 3, which "indicates we feel an eruption is imminent, or is in progress," said U.S. Geological Survey geologist Tom Pierson from the observatory..."

Hope everyone anywhere near Mt. St. Helens' is safe. And that they are far enough away that all life and property are safe.
Take care everyone.

Estelle

Just watched the latest news conference on Mt. St. Helens. It sounds like they are still saying that there will be another eruption and it will be bigger than yesterdays. About the only thing that the Portland area might get is a light dusting of ash. Other than that the weather here in the Great Nortwest has been spectacular !

Hi everyone
I knew I would never be able to keep up with the posts! I can't even seem to get myself organized to be added to the list!
I'm sorry - I have a couple of questions that I am sure have already been discussed but I can't find them in the thread:(
If we fly into John Wayne airport and rent a car (to go to Disneyland for a couple of days) - is it relatively easy to drop it off in San Pedro? Is anyone else doing this?
I phoned the San Pedro Holiday Inn (tried to make reservations for a non smoking room and they are all gone:( ). She said the nearest car rental is Enterprise but it looks like they don't really do one way rental. So do we get a taxi from the car rental (ie Hertz) to hotel? Oh dear - feeling overwhelmed!

Sorry we are such a bunch of yakkers!!! LOL!!
anyway, there are some of us who are renting a car and drop off at Long Beach. I am planning to fly to LAX and rent a car from Budget and drop off at Long Beach and then take a shuttle to port. I thought Enterprise does have one way but i think there is a drop off charge. Someone else may have a better answer.
ALso, i have 2 rooms reserved for the San Pedro Holiday Inn that i think we will be canceling since we decieded to stay at one hotel the whole vacation before the cruise. If you are interested, i will be glad to give you my room...( we have nonsmoking) Let me know....

kpgclark,

I just saw your post over on the family board at cruisecritic.com addressing our dilemma over the kids and extensive number of sea days. Good idea asking over there. Thank goodness the answers are all positive so far. I was beginning to think the Voyager class ships on RCCL were starting to look pretty good, but I'm feeling better about sticking with DCL for now. :D

Whiskers- We have a group of people already booked for the Holiday Inn @ San Pedro. Ivanover(Susan) from our cruise has put us in contact with a TA friend of hers who got us a great rate @ the H.I. San Pedro. We have about 32 rooms of their 60 rooms reserved already. Give the TA, Janice, a call and ask if she can get you in on the deal. I'm sure she has a contact there. If you want to try calling her, her # is 856-768-2511 . She is great to deal with. I believe she's in New Jersey...Mark
