August 2, 2011 - WONDERful Alaskan Adventure

Getting pretty excited for May 3 evening so I can book our excursions even though we still haven't picked the ones we want to do!

Still trying to work out our travel plans, airfare is up to $1800 for the 4 of us so it looks like we'll be driving. Oh well, it's only 14 hours or so, at least the DDs are great car travellers!

If anyone knows of any hotels near Canada Place that offer parking while on the cruise, please let me know.

FE lists are up on the Facebook page. If anyone would like it e-mailed to them please let me know and I will take care of that.

Very excited about strapping on my ears again!

Just booked our flights but since I'm from Calgary, they were way cheap. Got a seat sale :-) So sad for the Americans because flights to Vancouver can be expensive. I think that is why they will be using Seattle as the disembarkation port next year. I like the train idea. BTW - we don’t close down the country on Monday August 1 (August Long). All the stores and tourist places will be open for your shopping pleasure.

My wife is crew and I am joining her once again.
The last 3 weeks that I joined her, we sailed Mexico and so this should be a real experience.

I plan to sit in the hot tub most mornings after a run on the track (deck 4) so watch for me. I will be wearing my hat. The same one that was shaped by the sun in Cabo.... Oh Cabo.... That was fun.

Make sure you bring extra memory cards for your cameras. The scenery is bound to knock your socks off.

See you soon!
The Cruise Cowboy.

ps. I can't play FE since I don’t have a public accessible stateroom but I will be dropping off a little something in all the FEs I see. Cowboy theme of course :thumbsup2

And so sorry we can't reciprocate. FWIW, I'm _planning_ to hit the pool and hot tub at 7 am, so I may miss you, but we never know. . .

Just to "stir the pot," several people on the Vancouver thread have been talking about The Old Spaghetti Warehouse. Someone just mentioned that they are able to accommodate large groups and I've read several people raving about it. It's in Gastown, which is not precisely near Canada Place, although it actually doesn't look too far on the map. Gastown is also where the steam clock is supposed to be located. It looks like the restaurant is near the "other" ship terminal.

Just a thought. . .

I like your thought, Joy. :cool1:

The location is in Gastown which is worth a visit - however, the old spaghetti factory is not. They can accommodate large groups because all they serve is ready made salads and pasta with different sauces (ok, that's a slight exaggeration). They fill you up on white bread and there is an extremely disappointing dessert menu (not an exaggeration.) This place is usually popular with kids and the service is ok as is the price. But my vote would stay with Red Robin.

I had no clue and was reading reviews here that indicated it was good. I'm more than willing to take your word for it. I know RR, and don't know White Spot. Don't have a strong preference between the two.

Hi, all! I am trying to book our reservations for the cruise, but what agency should I use to get the lowest price.

Thanks!

Many of us have been reading that our sailing is full/nearly full. I'm afraid that this close in, there won't be many 'deals.' Since you're already on the boards, you may as well try DU and see what they say. :confused3

I just checked and you can get a Stateroom with Verandah for $5,428.12 and that is the best price you will get. The ship is basically full. You won't find any "deals" on Disney cruises. Disney does not allow discounts. You will find the same price everywhere you look. The price differences you will find are because tax is or is not included or trasnfers are or are not included. The base price for the cruise will be the same everywhere. The only thing different travel agents can do is offer different amounts of onboard credit.

I posted this on facebook but what are people thoughts abotu instead of meeting for a dinner we meet for a sunset trolly ride and tour to Grouse Mountain? It is a bit pricier ($74 for adults and $42 for kids) but they also have a place to eat there or you can eat before. Just an idea. They pick up at a lot of the local hotels starting at 6:15. Leave you at Grouse mountain for 2 hours. Lots of stuff to do there including the gondula ride to the top. Then they return you to your hotel. Thoughts?

This would be a good way to 'kill two birds with one stone' (I am in no way advocating the murder of birds ;) ) by combining a great - some might even say 'must-do' - Vancouver excursion with a cruise-meet.

That being said, as a local I would not take part. And the late return might be too late for youngsters still getting used to a time-change (9pm is Midnight Eastern Time)

For those not keeping up on facebook. We are going to have a meet on Aug 1 at The White Spot at 580 W George St. We will meet at 4 and those who want to go on the trolly ride after there is a pick up point right there. Let me know if you plan on going so we can let The White Spot know how many to expect.

Has anyone gotten docs in the mail yet? Seems like it should be very soon.

Not yet. Of course, our Postal Service is on strike and the FedEx delivery guys we have out here either leave packages on random driveways or return it as "Undeliverable" because, apparently, it's too difficult for them to give a hoot :headache:

If you do get your's, let us know so we can keep a watch out in the neighbourhood :magnify:

It may still be a bit longer. People on my origional cruise date (July 12) just started getting their docs this week.
