August 2, 2011 disney dream

Made it to WDW. Just waiting for our room at SSR. Hope everyone has a safe trip home.

Who was on the beach for TS Emily yesterday? Even with the golf cart ride back from the cabanas, everything I had was wet!

We are also in LBV now, but not on property. We had a wonderful time on the cruise despite yesterday's weather. At 1:30 yesterday we were at the tram stop by Scuttles Cove and it was like standing in front of a sand blaster! The wind and rain brought the sand right off the watercraft area, and it was like lots of little needles hitting us. We're still getting sand out of our hair!

That said, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are already looking at putting a real date to the dummy booking we did on ship.

We had lots of fun doing FE, and love all the gifts! Jeanne, my DW LOVES the bag!!

We had a FABULOUS cruise! I'll post a summery later. Just had to comment on 2nd CC day. We really loved the crazy weather, clouds are nice when you are sunburned :lmao: DH went back to the ship a little before I did and I experienced the needles of sand adventure getting back. That wind was crazy for a bit! I had only gotten in the ocean up to my knees but when I got back on the ship I was literally dripping water from head to toe. Someone had stolen my towel earlier when I got up from my beach chair so I had nothing to dry off with. (I asked the people sitting nearby and they admitted to accidently using my dirty towel :confused3:lmao:) Even though we are not kids and did not have them with us I am surprised at how much we loved doing the FE. Of course DH is much like a kid...everywhere we went CMs were hollering "Hey Bingo Mike!" Makes me kind of glad I wasn't at bingo with him...:rolleyes1

Hi guys!!!

LOVED meeting everyone and all the FE gifts!!

We made it to our 2:24 flight to Chicago with no problem. Then our luck ran out.

Our next flight back home to Cedar Rapids, Iowa got delayed - late incoming flight. Then cancelled.
The next one, scheduled for 8:19 also got delayed and cancelled.

By the time we got through a 2 hour Customer Service line, the last flight already had 20 on the standby list.

We had to stay in a hotel, then caught a 7 am flight today from Chicago back to Cedar Rapids!

I'm back at work and pretty tired!!!

All in all, though, it was a great cruise! The embarkation was not as bad as we anticpated, and surviving the gale force winds and blasting sand at our second Castaway stop will make for fond memories!

It was so nice to meet so many people! We loved all the FE gifts - it was our first time doing this, and next time, we will put them all in bags with our names on them! I hope everyone was able to figure out that the Iowa gifts were from us, along with the ocean-theme magnets!

Wishing everyone continued fun, if you are still on vacation, and safe travels back home!

Hi everyone. I am just stopping by to wish you all a wonderful cruise! We are not cruising on the Disney Dream until October 30th, but we will be in Port Canaveral on Tuesday 8/2 waving to you all as you leave.

We were waving! It seemed like it took FOREVER to get going, though! I think it was after 5:30 before the ship started moving? I know it was way after the Sail Away party had ended.

This is probably really too late, but I'm going on this cruise and hoping that there are some college kids around. I'm 19 and hopefully I can find somebody to talk to thats around my age... we'll see haha

Looking forward to the cruise. about 36 hours until I board :D

Oh, sorry I didn't see this, Keith. Our DD is 20 and I'm sure would have loved to meet you!

How did the 11am terminal/parking garage opening go?

Can't speak for the others, but we had no problems! We had a 12 - 12:30 arrival window. We dropped off our rental at Budget at 11:30, and immediately got on the shuttle to the port (we were the only ship leaving that day). Set foot in the terminal right at 12, and was checked by 12:20. Check in line was long, but moved briskly. The only delay we had was that the machine that prints your Key To The World keys decided to break down/jam up for about 5 minutes. We had boarding number 16 and by then, they were already boarding up to number 20, so we walked right on board at 12:30. We were initially directed to Cabanas, but I asked to go to Enchanted Garden and we were sitting down to eat by 12:45.

We were! We were going to try the 5K again (Mark came in 2nd overall on the first day), but the tram was really late, and we just missed the start. We rented bikes from about 10 to 11, then went to check on the Glass Bottom Boat tour that we had schedulded for 11:15, but we were told that by then, all the excursions were cancelled - I originally thought it was only the parasailing, jet ski, and bottom fishing. By then, it was getting rough, so we went back to the boat and did the Aqua Duck twice with only a 10 minute wait! Good thing, because I think it was closed later that day! We ate lunch at Cabanas when the gale blew in, and were really glad we were back on board!

Leilani, we felt bad for all the people in the cabanas, you got a short day. And when did they make the decision to leave even earlier? I thought it was supposed to be 3 pm, but we saw the pier pulling away by 2:30.

Robert, it was great to meet you all, and I hope you get back to Florida soon!!! We heard from some other folks who were snorkeling that it was like a sandstorm out there on Saturday! It will certainly be something we will remember about this cruise!

DH is also hooked on repeat cruising, and is already making plans for "our next cruise"! We booked a dummy too, and are thinking about either spring or summer 2013.

We loved all our gifts!!!!! I hope everyone makes it home safely...

Melissa- Thanks again for coordinating the Fish Extender. Oh caught your husband in the Village People remake in Evolution that was funny, I can tell he really enjoyed being onstage.

Melissa, I'm so sorry we missed it! Which Village Person was Jon? He has such an exuberant personality, I'm not surprised he is a secret "ham"!
DH Eric loves to karaoke, but sadly, didn't get a chance this cruise.

We spent the morning at Serenity Bay...water was crystal clear...spent most of the time snorkeling. Begin to hear the wind picking up...then began to notice the waves crashing into the breakwater.

During lunch, it became evident that the rain was not going to let up, so we decided to head back.

Caught a tram...passed some lady trying to teach her daughter how to ride a bike, on the runway, in the wind and rain...

Transferred to the other tram...when we emerged from the "woods" rain was blowing sideways...everyone was soaked...including a sweet little lady in a wheelchair. Offered her our mostly dry towel.

Since we were already soaked, and were wearing swimsuits, we went ahead and walked to the ship during the downpour. Line at rear hatch pretty long...once we got on the gangway, we actually ducked down to get out of the stinging rain....MAKING MEMORIES!!!

When our tram approached the drop off area close to the ship, everyone began to chant "go to the ship..." to no avail.

Noticed on the Bridge channel that the wind across the deck was 43 MPH at times...while tied to the pier.

Was pretty obvious looking at the water alongside the Dream that they had the thrusters cranked up pretty good holding us tight against the pier.

I was kind of shocked with how easily we seemed to leave CC in such windy conditions.

Did anyone else notice on the tv channel which shows the map, that it showed us heading to near Havana, Cuba at one point? I've actually got a photo of the screen I think.

All in all, was a great cruise...a little hot at times...

A NASA satellite actually caught this image of Tropical Depression Emily. This was at just about the time we were leaving Castaway Cay!!!

Pretty cool!!

Okay, so here is a little mini one-post trip report just for you guys :rotfl:

Day 1: Left home early, flew Salt Lake City to Orlando via Atlanta. We arrived around 3:30pm and took ME to the Poly. We checked in to our room then walked around the resort a bit and rode the monorail. We had a great dinner at Ohana even though the ukulele guy made us get up and dance while he serenaded us for our anniversary. I can’t remember what song he played! After dinner we went and hung out on the beach and watched the little boat parade and watched Wishes. While on the beach the boat from the resort pulled up to the dock and I heard the captain on the loudspeaker announce “tell you what, you guys were all SOOOOO good, I’m gonna give you all STICKERS!” and the entire boat full of people of all ages cheered loudly. That’s when I really knew I was at Disney. Other than a few mosquito bites while sitting on the beach, it was a nice day.

Day 2: Boarded the DCL bus at the Poly at 11:30. We pulled up to the port at 12:40 and were in line for embarkation photos by 1:00. We boarded and headed to Guest Services because they forgot to give us our Castaway Club lanyards at check-in. Then we went to the shore excursions desk where the CM there told us we would be switching At Sea and Nassau days. We booked the 9am Walking and Kayak tour for the next morning at Castaway Cay and the Blue Lagoon Beach Day for Nassau. Then we headed to Cabanas for lunch. After lunch we went to our room and then the Dismeet where we had a great time meeting some of you! We could have chatted forever! But that darn muster drill got in the way. We had fun running into people on the ship throughout the cruise though! We seemed to run into Deb and family a lot and Rob as well. Now we know why he misses FL. We ran into Urs, Andrea and Alena all the time! We love you guys! I also met a lurker named Clo but I don't know how to spell her name! So shout out Clo! We saw the 6:15 show and had dinner at Animator’s Palette. Our server and assistant server were SO GREAT! We had Darwin from Honduras and Isac from Brazil. They kept us entertained with magic tricks and crayon puzzles. Darwin jumped up and down pointing to DH Mike until Crush talked to him…he got to be the butt (so to speak) of the “making bubbles” joke. We had a great anniversary!

Day 3: The walking and kayak tour at Castaway Cay was really great. The main guide Ricky was really knowledgeable and even had us tasting edible plants on the island. We got to go off trail just past the far end of Serenity Bay and then at the end of the biking trail we went off to the kayak beach and kayaked up the little inlet. It was beautiful and so peaceful. We saw Upside-Down jellyfish and a huge stingray. The water was very clear. It was a lot of walking for someone who had foot surgery a few months ago but not actually strenuous in any way. We then spent some time at Serenity Bay and stopped off so DH could do Pelican Plunge on the way back to the ship. Dinner was at Enchanted Garden. We found out the people at the table next to us got moved up to early seating. Then it seemed as though a random family came and plopped down at their table about 30 minutes into dinner. It was odd. Our servers seemed a bit flustered and asking them their names etc. but took it in stride. It was a man, his wife, and two girls aged 11 and 12. I heard them tell some people they were sisters and others that they were friends. No idea. As soon as they sat down the man yanked on the hair of one of the girls and started yelling at her. Let me just say it made for some interesting meals the rest of the trip!!! I have never in my life seen people with such horrid manners and behavior. They would sit and watch you eat and comment on everything saying things like “is that good? It looks disgusting. What does it taste like? What did you get mam? What is it made of?” and on and on. The man would at some point during EACH AND EVERY meal get upset and storm off. One night both the man and woman stormed off and left the two girls to eat alone. They always ordered something off the menu. The girls would take one look at their kid’s meal, say, “no I don’t want that” then order another one and never touch either one. One night they asked the server, assistant server, and head server for green beans. When all 3 brought them they were annoyed. One night the woman ordered “the pasta” so they brought it and she got all grossed out and said “no, I meant the kids’ pasta” One night they ordered tacos and I don’t know where the poor servers had to go to track those down! Let’s just say there was a lot of muttering under their breath as the servers would walk away from that table. We sympathized. It was hard sitting near them, let alone serving them! They got mad at our server because they wanted him to take their untouched meals away as he was placing our entrees on our table and he kept nicely saying “just a second, just a second” I could go on and on about their appalling behavior but I’ll spare you. They ended up with the head server taking constant care of them. Another table near us complained about them. I found them a little scary. There is a whole other “Bermuda Triangle” story with them as well.

Day 4: We really enjoyed the Blue Lagoon Beach Day. Deb did you enjoy your dolphin encounter? That beach was gorgeous! I could’ve floated in that water all day. Well I nearly did. The weather was perfect, the water was perfect. It was just beautiful!!! Sigh. On the way back to the ship we did a little shopping. That night was Royal Palace for the Pirate dinner. Royal Palace was my favorite restaurant, probably due in part to our table placement (not too close to the crazies!) We saw the early party and then fireworks after dinner from deck 12. We passed through the pirate buffet on our way back to the room, even though it wasn’t on the way.

Day 5: Today was our “lucky day”. I’m sad because I have hardly any pictures! I did some shopping and reading. DH went to play bingo. I met him there at the last 5 minutes. I got there just in time to see him get bingo. Another guy got a bingo too so they split it and he came away with $144. I told him that was almost enough to get me the Dooney & Bourke I wanted and he said, yeah, but not quite. Later we went to the DVC presentation and I won the $300 OBC! I told Mike, “Well, now it’s enough!” So I did some more shopping. Dinner that night was Royal Palace again. After dinner we finally rode the Aquaduck around 10:30. We still had probably a 15 minute wait. I am claustrophobic and I thought I’d be okay since most of it is clear, but in that dark part I thought I just might die. Fortunately I did not. I decided I am too claustrophobic for the Aquaduck!

Day 6: Had fun on the beach at Castaway Cay. We didn’t stay too long. DH did some basketball free throw contest thing or something. He decided to go back to the ship early to eat lunch on board. After he left the wind really started to pick up so I headed for the tram stop where I was pelted with sand. It really did hurt and get in my eyes, but it was an adventure. I felt bad for a couple trying to get two kids in strollers to the tram. We kind of relaxed the rest of the day. I read my book for awhile on my Kindle, sat it down and picked it up later and the screen was covered in lines and I couldn’t read it anymore. I was NOT happy! Our final night dinner was at Animator’s. It was my favorite meal. I had the steak.

Day 7: Breakfast and disembarkation went very smoothly. We had a long day though. We left the ship around 9am and got home around 13 hours later. 13 hours without my book on my kindle!!! So I made DH download the kindle app on his droid so I could read my book on that. I’d have gone crazy without it! We found out our departure flight from Orlando was delayed by an hour which would make for a very close connection in Atlanta so we got on standby for an earlier flight and made it on. One of our bags was a little lost at the airport because they had sent one ahead and kept the other one on our last flight. We eventually found it though and were happy to get home to the kids!

Did the table next to you have a guy dressed in a black tank top on the second night? ;)

We LOVED the Dolphin Encounter! We each got a "kiss", a hug, a "dance", and got to feed a fish to our dolphin Salvadore! We took pictures with our waterproof camera, but it is not digital, so I have to get it developed and scanned, and I will try to post the pics.

We wanted to try the Pelican Plunge, but couldn't figure out how to get there. Do you swim out to it?

One more...Hope you all had a great cruise! Our RCCL cruise had an itinerary change, and we couldn't go to Coco Cay (their private island)...instead we enjoyed a sea day. Perfect weather, as we stayed docked in Nassau until the front passed through on Sunday morning. We had never stayed overnight in a port before...1st time for everything.

Photos of the Disney Dream from Rusty's at the port, sailing 8/2/2011

Thanks for the pictures! I can *almost* tell which blob I am LOL. I was on deck 12 below the forward stack. I'm glad you had a good cruise too! Next time will probably be better though ;)

:dance3: on last hello to all our fellow cruisers before we leave the US again. After nearly 4 weeks in Florida it is official, we have to go back to Switzerland at some point, we ran out of money, had to buy another (that means in total 2) suitcase in order to bring all the stuff back to Switzerland.

But what we really wanted to shout out is THANK YOU ALL for making this cruise such an increadible, wonderful and lovely experience. It was awesome meeting a few of you, we enjoyed the pre-cruise meeting at the Beach Club, the get togheter on Deck 3 on the first day of the cruise and the popping into each other with a few of you mates.

The fish extender thing was faboulous, I love your bag, Jeanne, Alena and I am still fighting who is gonna keep it. And all the other great presents, I can not thank you all enough for the great gifts, they made it so special.

With those who we could talk a bit more, thanks, it was such a pleasure. We could have chatted forever. I already miss you. It would be great to stay in touch.

For now I say goodby and farewell and if one of you ever is in Switzerland, shout out, it would be great seeing you again.

All the best
Your Swissfamily :dance3:

It was so nice to meet you and your family, Andrea!! I hope Alena is not tramatized by Eric's attempts at speaking German!

Thanks again for the Swiss chocolate and all the personalized tags!

Have a safe trip back to Switzerland and we hope to see you all again someday! :flower3:
