~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

First, sorry V did not get her braces off.

But :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for booking. And we definitely have to plan a time to meet, if only for a quick drink. :goodvibes

I think you will love Port Orleans! We stayed in the Mansions on the first floor and the walk across the bridge wasn't bad. We "accidentally" had a water view and it was just perfect.
What room did you have at the French Quarter? We paid for a preferred room so would really like a convenient room. I can't wait to try the little donuts!!( couldn't spell the correct term!)

That's great that you got a discount and booked even if i'ts not your first choice. Hope POFQ is available later on so you can switch. Now you can plan your ADR's without planning ADR's on days you may be there because now you know when you are there :cool1::cool1:

On a side note: I haven't forgotten to send you pictures of my bag in use. It is so dark here now (the sun is still gone for another 2 weeks) that it's difficult to get good pictures. But I'm going to WDW in 34 days and then I will take a lot of pictures when the bag is in use and I will send some to you :)

YOU'RE BOOKED!!!!! and I am not... :worried: :cool1: :( :hyper: :yay: :woohoo:

All joking aside, I am SO happy for you and the girls. You work SO HARD to save for these doses of magic each year and you deserve every bit!!!! :mickeyjum

I will reply to everyone in the morning, as usual...

But you all realize what this means, don't you???

Time to start posting some mini-planner pages! :woohoo:

D~

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou when we were at POR. It's a little close to home for us, being from the south and all. I love hearing how y'all from the north love the theming. :goodvibes (it also was the Herding Cats trip, so there was excess baggage with it as well...:rolleyes1)

I would like to stay in the Mansion side, but the aforementioned familiarity and associated issues makes DH say Nay.

Well, I was about to say sorry to V for still having to deal with the braces, but I suspect it's partially her own doing for not following the instructions. I will say sorry to you and Josh...both with having to deal with the unhappy V and the cost.

Whooot for booking (even if you end up swapping around.) That always makes it more real.

D! I am so excited for you guys!!!! Someone mentioned full busses, and that to is the reason we always went to the main depot, I was worried about full buses and I had a stroller so it was easier to go in and stowe it.

Also if you book a GV for the Royal Room, then you should be along the front of the building since that really is mostly where the Garden views are.

Most importantly I am so excited for you because ugh for us (dates are still not confirmed) BUT Going to Disney is most likely the end of august too, right within your dates. I would like to stay at POR best (V will want POFQ) but we may need to then move to a value as V's parents will be paying. If we do likely AOA.

Fingers crossed we'll be there at the same time. I wish V's mom would just get her but in gear and make the decision! She did mention last night in an email about talking about March break plans and V's dad is thinking about taking time off in the summer so now I don't know what that is all about since my understanding is that they were always going to florida in the summer!

Hope it works out.

:cool1: YIPPEE for being booked! That was the resort and room we were planning on staying in before we decided to just use our DVC points, so I'm quite jealous. Glad you got a discount and can't wait to hear more about the plans!!! :)

It's official... A rather unexpected turn of events this morning and...

WE ARE BOOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!

***Now -this is still subject to change, because if our first choice becomes available, we will be switching resorts... But we are very happy to get this. :thumbsup2

YEAH you do realize you are going when I usually go to WDW. The last week of August is my favorite time to go. :)

I am sorry about V not getting her braces off. C doesn't have rubberbands on hers. Right now we are aligning her teeth and then she will have to have some teeth built up and bonded because they are the size of baby teeth and then we will move to the retainer. We have been doing this since the 2nd grade for a complex dental problem. Thankfully she will most likely have them off this year, which isn't bad since she will be in the 6th or 7th grade. When we are done I think it will cost us about the same as you, though I haven't paid in over a year since the PBA has been sending the ortho money every month and I had paid over half by that time so right now I am not paying and they still may owe me money which I will then apply to the retainer. Can't complain about that.

I am so happy you have another trip planned.

Congrats getting your tripped book. I think those princess rooms are so cool. Hope that a discount does come out so you can switch.

I have been off the boards because go figure - I have been sewing. I made a cute insa skirt for my niece and I am working on a stripwork jumper but I think I over designed. I am working on the 10 princess appliques.

Congrats on being booked!! The Royal Rooms look beautiful, and I'm sure you will enjoy it there if you can't get your first choice.

Congrats on being BOOKED! That deserves some celebration!

:cool1::hyper::banana::yay::woohoo::dance3::cheer2::rockband:party::jumping1::jumping2:

Heck...how about a little creepy guy too... :dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

The Royal Rooms look gorgeous :cloud9: and I am sure no matter what that you will have a wonderful trip. I'm looking forward to hearing about some trip plans now that you're booked!

Congrats on your booking:cool1:. I'm still waffling on dates - we are pretty flexible since we don't have kids at home any longer, but my 60th bd :scared1: will be during the week I want to go and I wouldn't be home to celebrate with the family.:dance3: So, the upshot is that I haven't booked yet :rolleyes1. maybe we will decide to go the last week in August too!

The make your own pasta is you tell the cm what you want and he/she prepares the bowl for you.

Sorry about V's braces, but she really needs to use the bands :confused3. My youngest dd couldn't wait to get braces and then once she got them, hated them and couldn't wait to get them off. She did keep the bands on them though when she needed to. She has a beautiful smile now :).

Can't wait to read about your mini plans.

It is hard to be on the Disboards when you don't have a trip planned but it is good "research" for any future trips. You could always finish that trip report (hint, hint - I love seeing your two cuties at Disney and I LOVE the way you did your TR).

HINT HINT HINT ----> maybe if more people type it she will see it ☺!

D~

So happy that you are booked... even if it means we may miss you in October. Is Chiara still going then???

We could never go those weeks in August as DH usually has his Prof Development days for school and everyone is back in school that last week:sad2:

Bummer that V didn't get her braces off. I can't sypathize with her though because I was one of the few lucky ones that didn't need them.

I did not need them growing up, and neither did Josh - so this was a totally new experience for us.

I can't believe you had another spring come out on your couch! The just don't make stuff the way they used to. I've been thinking about a new couch set for my living room because the pillows are all slightly chewed. :rotfl: I've had four puppies during the time I've had the set. Maybe I'll just try to replace the pillows as the couch is too deep to do without them.

I know, I was not a happy camper - that's for sure! While the guy was here, he checked that entire seat, and made sure all of the springs were in place - I trust his work (he is friends with my next door neighbor), but I don't trust that Lane's work will hold up. We will see.

If I were you, I would either look to replace your pillows, or get a Flexsteel... They are super duper spendy - but if you want it to last. I am still kicking myself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who plans their hair appointments around vacations!

I was very happy to get all my cuts and foils worked out through August and our trip.

I hope that some good discounts come out so you can book your trip! And as for the ADRs, you can always make them and then cancel. I thought I might have to move our October 2013 trip to April 2013 so I made a bunch. Just cancelled them this weekend. Bonus for someone making a last minute trip! I'm hoping for one of those so I can get into BOG in March.

Thanks - I know I can. But it's so hard until your trip is booked.

Have a great day. I am I'm starting to go through new bag pictures withdrawal so I hope you get one done soon!

I know, I know... I am working hard, trust me.

Hi D! Sorry I have been missing lately. I have been reading along with my phone...but its hard to respond without all the smilies. Bradey and I are home sick today, so no smilies again.

It's OK, I understand. I hope you both are feeling better today.

But you know I had to put my 2 cents worth in about POFQ/POR. You guys really lucked out with your room location last time, but what if you get stuck in building 7 this time? Then you would still have a really long walk each morning. I totally agree with you that FQ is better...no argument there, but POR is pretty darn nice too. And depending on where they put you this year...you might have a shorter walk at POR.

I think - even if we were put in bldg 7, it still wouldn't be that bad - just because everything is so close to the main building?

Both foodcourts are awesome. No matter which one we stay at, we would walk to the other food court a couple times during the stay. The MYO pasta was AMAZING! And they have a MYO omelette bar in the mornings. Yum!

This sounds delicious... I also saw yesterday that they have some sort of build your own yogert?

I would choose POFQ everytime if they had rooms with 3 beds. If we stay at POR, we will be in AB so we can have the murphy bed.

I thought about doing the murphy bed this time, then we would each have our own bed, but the girls wanted the RR, so...

You will have an AMAZING time no matter where you stay. And who knows...your girls might just fall in love with POR this time!

I know, I know - I have to keep reminding myself of that.

Woohoo! That's awesome D!

Super excited!

I'm finally back from Virginia and getting on the DIS again! I had to read several pages to get caught up, so hope I remember everything I wanted to comment on. (Cause you just can't do without my pearls of wisdom, right?!)

Actually, you are very right Lois, and I am very happy to have you back. I hope you had a great trip.

The whole POR and FQ thing: We stayed at POR first, then FQ two years later. We've never been back to Riverside. It's a beautiful resort and we enjoyed it immensely, but once we stayed at FQ, we were in love, just like you and the girls. And even if you stay in building 7 or 1, it is still only about 5 minutes from the food court. That's the beauty of it being so small. At Riverside, we stayed in the Arcadian section and used the north depot. Many times the buses were full by the time they got to our stop. It was a long trek to the food court and gift shop too. It was quite beautiful, though.

I guess, this is my problem... We should have stayed at POR last time, then we wouldn't know what we were missing. LOL

What I am banking on, since we have a Royal Room with a water view... All of the RR WV rooms (except for one - according to the new maps Andra just put on PortOrleans.org) are in Oak Manor - on the side of the building facing the walking bridge to the main building. So, I think the plan of attack is this... I am an early riser, so I would get up before the girls - shower and get ready (or sometimes I would go down in my jammies), I would go down to the FC and fill their mugs and grab breakfast, then I would go back to our room and wake them... We would all eat breakfast and get ready for our day. POR will mean more walking for me - but not so much for them. I think we will walk across the bridge every morning to get the bus to the park from there... Upon our return and our later return to the parks, we will use the bus stop behind our building, because by then, there shouldn't be any issues with crowded busses? That's the plan, as of now. LOL

As for eating at BOG for lunch vs dinner, I actually was suggesting doing both. They are completely different experiences. At dinner, you get seated in one of three dining areas. All are fabulous, but we loved the main ballroom where you could watch the snowfall and just enjoy being in the magnificence of it all. The food was a bit more fancy in the evening as well. For lunch, you can choose where you want to sit and we chose the West Wing both times. I had the braised pork, which was delicious. So much so that I had it the next time we had lunch there and so did my DH! In the evening, you can get your picture taken with the Beast, which was pretty cool. But if LTT is a must do for you and the girls, I guess lunch would be out at BOG. I just enjoyed it so much...and I also love LTT...that I didn't even consider anywhere else for lunch at MK.

This does sound amazing, and depending on how we make our ADRs work, I might have one TS meal left to do dinner there. And for that matter - depending on where we are in the parks, we might end up with a lunch meal there too.

So sorry about the Uggs and MM! He's probably getting stir crazy like so many of us do in January or February. Hope he calms down a bit before really causing damage!

Yah - he is a crazy man... The Uggs are now locked away when they aren't being worn.

Sounds like you've been busy getting your bags done. Can't wait to see what you've created this time! My DGD loved her Rapunzel dress. She put it on every chance she got, just removing it to eat and sleep. My DGS, however, would not even put the super hero cape I made for him on. I just don't think I'll be sewing for him for a while, since he doesn't wear anything I make. My older DGD (age 5) was a bit disappointed at not getting a Rapunzel dress, so I felt a little guilty about that. But I've made her so many fancy dresses in the past and this was Charlotte's first one.

I still need to go check out your Rapunzel dress, I must admit that it completely escaped me. I will try to do that tomorrow. And I wouldn't feel guilty, if I were you - seeing as you have made dresses for your other DGD already.

I'm planning to look for that author you mentioned since I really like historical fiction. I love reading in the winter especially since there isn't as much to do outside when it's so cold. Thanks for the suggestion.

The second book I just read - The Fairytale Garden - was THE BEST... Loved it, better than the first.

Too bad about the braces, but I would be the same way! That's too much money to have it be less than optimal results! I'll bet V will be pretty diligent about those rubber bands now.

Yup, so far so good... Rubberbands are still in.

As far as beating the heat in August, I got a couple of the mini misting fans that they sell at WalMart. They are handheld size, but hold quite a bit of water. You can use one of those small carabiners to hook it to your bag strap or belt loop so it's handy, but out of the way. Also, people use those neck things they sell on etsy. You put them in the freezer and wear them around your neck all day. They make fun Disney ones or just regular style fabric and look like you're wearing a scarf. Sorry, don't have a link. You could whip a few of those up in no time with your skills. I honestly think just doing what you're planning; rope drop, afternoon break, a day or two off plus the water parks will go a long way in getting you all through. And the crowd levels will be well worth it. I know there's all kinds of speculation on the disappearing discounts, but I still think the end of August/beginning of September will call for discounts of some kind. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for all the ideas... I will look into those neck wraps, to see if I can find any... Someone also said just washcloths put in the freezer work well? I am sure praying for discounts, because as of now, I can afford the trip, but I can't afford the airfare on top - so it will be a nail biting few months to see if we will even get to go... If not, the trip will have to be pushed back until who knows when... Sigh.

Really didn't mean to get so wordy, but it has been a while. Hope you are continuing to have great sewing days.

No worries, thanks Lois!

Just saw you booked at Riverside! Good for you! Hope FQ comes available, but that room looks fabulous! And they are situated close to the food court and main bus stop, so that's a huge plus!!

Thanks! Well, after yesterday, we may just end up staying at POR the entire time... But I will talk about that a little bit below...

First, sorry V did not get her braces off.

But for booking. And we definitely have to plan a time to meet, if only for a quick drink.

Thanks Kathy... Yup - definately have to meet for a drink!

Yay for being booked! Still wish it was in October though.

I know, I feel horrible about October, because so many of my best Dis buds are going then...

Thanks Ruth!

In FQ, I booked a standard room (because they didn't have the Garden view as an option at that time - it didn't exist yet), and I was upgraded to a garden room. We were on the second floor of building 6, facing building 5, overlooking the courtyard. It was perfect!

That's great that you got a discount and booked even if i'ts not your first choice. Hope POFQ is available later on so you can switch. Now you can plan your ADR's without planning ADR's on days you may be there because now you know when you are there

Thanks Lillian... I am not sure if we are switching now? I will update at the bottom.

On a side note: I haven't forgotten to send you pictures of my bag in use. It is so dark here now (the sun is still gone for another 2 weeks) that it's difficult to get good pictures. But I'm going to WDW in 34 days and then I will take a lot of pictures when the bag is in use and I will send some to you

No worries - When you get back from Disney is just fine!

YOU'RE BOOKED!!!!! and I am not...

All joking aside, I am SO happy for you and the girls. You work SO HARD to save for these doses of magic each year and you deserve every bit!!!!

Thank you Oopsi... You will be booked soon, I just know it... And you'll probably be paid in full long before I am. And thanks for the pat on the back... I do work really hard to give us these trips, but so do you and Brian (and everyone else) LOL...

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou when we were at POR. It's a little close to home for us, being from the south and all. I love hearing how y'all from the north love the theming.(it also was the Herding Cats trip, so there was excess baggage with it as well...)

LOL... See and I feel like the AB rooms are too rustic like MN - with the log beds and all, it just doesn't appeal to me. :confused3

I would like to stay in the Mansion side, but the aforementioned familiarity and associated issues makes DH say Nay.

Now the mansions to appeal to me... I love that there are two totally seperate areas to this resort.

Well, I was about to say sorry to V for still having to deal with the braces, but I suspect it's partially her own doing for not following the instructions. I will say sorry to you and Josh...both with having to deal with the unhappy V and the cost.

Exactly! It is her own doing, and now she seems to be taking it seriously, because I am not just going to pull them off until they are done... She could live the rest of her life with them on. LOL

Whooot for booking (even if you end up swapping around.) That always makes it more real.

I know... I feel so much better - I was getting really anxious about it.

D! I am so excited for you guys!!!! Someone mentioned full busses, and that to is the reason we always went to the main depot, I was worried about full buses and I had a stroller so it was easier to go in and stowe it.

That is a concern for me too, so I am planning to do what you and V did.

Also if you book a GV for the Royal Room, then you should be along the front of the building since that really is mostly where the Garden views are.

We are actually booked with a pool view... So, we should be along the quiet pool side of Oak Manor.

I hope you are able to get it all figured out soon.

YIPPEE for being booked! That was the resort and room we were planning on staying in before we decided to just use our DVC points, so I'm quite jealous. Glad you got a discount and can't wait to hear more about the plans!!!

Thanks!! We are really looking forward to it... We can talk about it forever, but once we are booked - that's when we really get excited about planning!

I knew it I just knew it when I left work this morning and drove past POR I had a feeling I work 5 minutes from there !! Now looking forward to the planning & ADRs would love to join you & the girls brfst lunch dinner matters not to me

That is funny that you just "knew"... How cool is that!

What time do you get off of work... Breakfast would be fun! :thumbsup2

sorry abt V's braces but have to agree better safe than sorry & a good life lesson

Hopefully...

that couch shame on them hope it works out

I know, Grrrrr.... It just makes me mad to think about it. When you spend that much $$ and time trying to find something quality, and have all these problems in less than a year... I really don't have much faith in the next 19 years I was hoping this set would last.

YEAH you do realize you are going when I usually go to WDW. The last week of August is my favorite time to go. :

Soooo sorry.... You are one of the people I was hoping to meet this time... So very sad... And I wanted to see the kiddos and the baby... Sigh. :(

Can't complain about that.

Sounds like Miss C has had her fair share of dental work... It's so expensive!

I am so happy you have another trip planned.

Me too... I had fun dreaming about it last night.

Congrats getting your tripped book. I think those princess rooms are so cool. Hope that a discount does come out so you can switch.

Thanks Liz! I am not sure if we are gonna switch now... I will explain below.

I have been off the boards because go figure - I have been sewing. I made a cute insa skirt for my niece and I am working on a stripwork jumper but I think I over designed. I am working on the 10 princess appliques.

Sounds cute - but 10 appliques, OUCH!!! Busy girl you are.

Congrats on being booked!! The Royal Rooms look beautiful, and I'm sure you will enjoy it there if you can't get your first choice.

Thanks!!! I am not sure if we are switching now, I will explain below.

Congrats on being BOOKED! That deserves some celebration!

The Royal Rooms look gorgeous and I am sure no matter what that you will have a wonderful trip. I'm looking forward to hearing about some trip plans now that you're booked!

Thanks! We are super excited about the Royal Rooms... A little nervous about all the walking though...

Congrats on your booking. I'm still waffling on dates - we are pretty flexible since we don't have kids at home any longer, but my 60th bd will be during the week I want to go and I wouldn't be home to celebrate with the family. So, the upshot is that I haven't booked yet. maybe we will decide to go the last week in August too!

That would be cool! It's only one birthday away from the family (although a milestone birthday)... I've always wanted to do my birthday in Disney as well. Sigh, someday I will get to take all the trips I want to take. LOL

The make your own pasta is you tell the cm what you want and he/she prepares the bowl for you.

Ahhh, got it! Thanks for explaining... It would be awesome if it was a pasta bar... But, on our last trip - the thing I loved the most was all of the pastas, so I think this will be very good for us.

Sorry about V's braces, but she really needs to use the bands. My youngest dd couldn't wait to get braces and then once she got them, hated them and couldn't wait to get them off. She did keep the bands on them though when she needed to. She has a beautiful smile now.

Yep, V was the same way... Super excited at first and hated them with in days... LOL... It's been a struggle ever since. I can't wait to see her smile once they are off!

Can't wait to read about your mini plans.

Thanks, I plan to post the first one below.

HINT HINT HINT ----> maybe if more people type it she will see it ☺!

Maybe?

So happy that you are booked... even if it means we may miss you in October. Is Chiara still going then???

I know, I know... You were another person I was hoping to meet... Sigh... We'll have to plan a fun trip with all of us one day!

*********************************************************

Sewing update: OK... I managed to finish quilting my current bag yesterday. I won't be in my sewing room at all today, since I have to work at Target. Tomorrow, I plan to do the applique. :thumbsup2

Trip update: Yup, we are booked. We couldnt' be more excited!

One of the girls' requests were the Royal Rooms, you all know that. If we couldn't have FQ, they wanted a RR... Well, it wasn't until they got home from school yesterday that they realized the RR were in the Mansions... They screamed with delight... Then Alli confessed to me (while screaming and jumping up and down) "OMG, that's where all the hot guys stay!!!!" Really? News to me. Sooooo, now that all the hot guys stay at POR in the Mansions... FQ is but a speck in their dreams. :confused3 So, that's where the girls stand on the split stay.

From a much more realistic point of view... Doing a split stay throws a wrench in our plans, and it's not something I am sure that we want to tackle this trip... Yes, I would LOVE some FQ love, but the dynamics involved just don't thrill me much at all. I know it can be done, but I'd really like to incorporate as little confusion as possible.

I won't have the time today, but I will try this week, I need to crunch the #s and really look at our plans. We would have to make the tickets work to our advantage, because if FD is released, we would have basically 2 totally seperate reservations, where all of our dining and all of our park tickets would be seperate to each reservation. So, I am just not sure if a split stay would work - as much as it would be fun to try both resorts in the same trip.

So, I really need to dig deep into our plans and figure it all out. Sigh.

On a fun note... I did start my Mini-Planner last night, I couldn't help myself!!!

So... I hope everyone has a wonderful day... and if any of you have ever done a split stay - I would love to hear about how it all worked for you (especially if you managed to do it during FD).

D~

For those of you that don't know, my Dis friend (PoisonApplePrincess - Stephanie) introduced me to her mini-planner and I fell in love. It is just the most perfect thing to keep all of our plans organized in the park, and the size is just right.

All it is, is one of those cheapo $1.99 plastic photo albums that you can buy at Target, and you fill it up with all of your plans. For me, I build all of my templates in Photoshop, and print them at the Photo Lab as 4x6 prints... I think my whole planner last year, cost me under $7. And because it was so small, I just threw it in my UPB every day, and it worked like a charm! Because I printed it on 4x6 paper, it was quite durable, and the plastic pages kept it water proof... Loved it, and plan to do another one.

So... Last night, I sat down and made up my main calendar page. You will notice that it looks very similar to my March 2012 calendar page... Most of the photos for the backgrounds came from the internet or my camera, however, quite a few of the others (and the main balloon background) are photos I used with permission from an amazing photographer here on The Dis: Dznefreek - Jim is always so nice to let me use his photos for this purpose. :lovestruc

Anyways... Now, you will notice a lot of blank spots... This calendar will be revised again (and again) before we leave on our trip... I am just guessing on which ADRs we want on which days, as you all know, my ADR date isn't coming for another 6 weeks, so I still have time to iron it all out.

LOL about the hot guys comment. I'll have to keep that in mind when my daughter gets older and still wants to go to Disney!
