We are going for the first time in August (actually July 30-aug.6) and I was wondering how are the crowds?? I am hoping alot of people are doing the free dining and our week might be light :lmao: however not sure since we are the "week before Pres. week" type of family!! I am prepared for the heat but not if it is crazy crowded!

Hi,

The summer is very crowded up until the middle of August. if you usually go in early February you'll find you will have a lot more company in July/August!

But go early, use Fastpass, and take a mid-day break. the parks are open late every night!

Enjoy!

The crowds the first week of August are the largest estimated crowds of the entire summer. In fact, they are estimated to be the largest of the year other than Christmas and Easter. While this makes NO sense to me, that is what the most current crowd estimates on www.touringplans.com are showing.

We will be there Aug. 3-12 and I am blown away that the crowds are estimated to be THAT high. I guess we'll see. It must be because everyone heard I will be there for my birthday. Darn groupies. ;)

We're going Aug 1-8 because we really have no choice (that is to say, it's the only time the whole family can get away) and we are bummed that the crowds are supposed to be so heavy, with the heat to boot. I'm used to 105 degree summer heat here in inland So. Cal, but not usually with 70% humdity!! Ugh.

On the other hand, I think the parks are supposed to be fairly jammed with locals having a last fling before school starts, but maybe the resorts won't be so bad?? (ohplease, ohplease) I have no previous experience with this, though. It makes no sense to me, either! You'd think everyone would want to stay home when it's that hot.

Where are you all staying? BC here.

We were there the first week in August last year. While it was crowded, it was no where near as crowded as X-mas/NYE or Thanksgiving. The heat was the most detrimental to us :sunny: . We went to the parks early. It rained nearly every afternoon, which didn't do a whole lot to ease the heat, but people tended to leave the parks when it would start raining. Take advantage of early mornings and late evenings when the temperatures are more tolerable.

No matter what touringplans.com is saying, there is no way the first week of August will be more crowded than the 4th of July week!

In fact, I'm sure all of July will be at least as crowded as the first week of August...

Happy Birthday! You'll have a great time!

I've never posted a message, but I often read them. I am also going to Disney and Universal the first week of Aug. We arrive on Saturday 7-29 and plan to do a waterpark on Sunday 7-30 because I'm afraid the crowds will be terrible on Sunday. Will the parks stay open 3 hours longer for resort guests when they are closing so late (sometimes 11pm)? What about Epcot? Future World closes earlier than World Showcase. I have done the early morning hours, but not the evening extra hours. Thanks!

I'm also going to be there from August 1-6. I'm hoping that some people pushed their trips back because of the free dining so it won't be as crowded as usual.

I usually go the first week of August and it's busy but manageable. It's quiet when the parks first open and after it rains in the afternoon.

It's super hot and crowded. We just canceled our August 2 trip actually and moved it to December b/c the more I thought about it, the more miserable it sounded.

I thought the exact same thing about July 4, but we aren't typically "summer" travelers. We have no problem getting to the park at opening so hopefully we can get a lot done before lunch. We hope to miss the afternoon thunderstorms by going back to the resort from lunch until just before dinner. We have all of our ADRs in place and I will print out a touring plan for each day. We have Brita sport bottles and mini fans and we'll pack PLENTY of extra clothes.

I guess if we get to go in March of '07 this will be good practice for dealing with those BIG crowds!

We'll be going 8-13 to 8-18 (POFQ), and we're not too worried about the heat. we're pretty used to all but the humidity. Our last trip was the end of Aug-begining of Sept, and the weather didn't hold us back. It was a bit crowded though. I hope people will be worried about the weather and hurricanes so that they stay home that week! ;)

Welcome to the DIS!

Yes, no matter how late the parks are open, they will stay open three extra hours for resort guests on EMH evenings.

As for Epcot, all of WS and most of FW will be open till midnight. The big rides in FW all stay open through EMH.

Yeah--uh--I hear late July/early August at WDW is BAD, REAL BAD. So don't even think of going then. No way. Cancel your plans. Pick some other time. Just don't go late July/early August. Bad. Stay away.

(Going July 24-Aug. 5 :sunny: :sunny: )
