Audio Ads

When did these audio advertisements start? For the last couple of weeks, everytime I'm on the boards, I get these advertisements, but they are audio only. I keep looking for a video somewhere on the page so I can pause it, but I don't see one. Logging in doesn't stop them either . . . :confused3

I do know ads are based on cookies so everyone sees different ads and I have yet to hear any that contain audio in any way. Can you identify any of the audio specifically for us?

Are only DisBoards pages open when you hear this?

Audio ads that start up automatically are a frequent complaint on the Community Board.

Lacy, download an ad blocker. Then you won't get the annoying audio ads (or any annoying ads, for that matter).

I'm getting the same thing. It's always the same ad, something about Lysol Power and Free. I see the usual picture ads and none of them have anything to do with Lysol. This just started today for me and has only happened (so far) when I'm on the Community Board and here and then not all of the time.

I still get these occasionally. Any idea on what the cause is yet?

Thought I'd pop in and voice my complaint, also.
I get 2 audio ads, in succession, but not every time
I open a link to a thread on the Community Board.
Tonight they didn't play until I'd opened 2 or 3 threads
(closing each one to go to the Comm. Board before
clicking on another).
That is normal for me - it is nightly but not every thread.

Tonight it was an audio ad for Lysol Max Toilet Cleaner,
then it went right into the 2nd ad which was for Clearasil.
Never has anything to do with the ads anywhere on the page I'm on.

This started about 1-2 weeks ago, never happened before that.
I should not have to load adblock - you folks should figure it out.
I rarely get pop-up ads, I use what is loaded on my system.
For any help it may be, I'm using Win8, IE10.

There actually is video related to the ads, but IE (and maybe other browsers) aren't displaying the flash based video. I notice when browsing with Firefox, I'll start hearing the lysol ad, and typically on the bottom right of the DIS page I'll also see the lysol ad flash video which can be paused.

If I switch to IE, I'll sometimes hear the audio for the ad, but the bottom right of the webpage will be empty where the video ad usually is. Since there is no video, there's no way of pausing or stopping it.

Don't know about chrome or safari, but I know firefox will show the video along with the audio.

Wow, that is interesting...

I wonder if I updated to IE11 w/Win 8.1
if the videos would appear.
I am reluctant to do that as I updated
as soon as it became available last October.
IE11 was a nightmare - very few websites
supported it, including my financial ones.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one hearing "voices" :thumbsup2

IE11 probably won't make a difference for the audio ads. I'm currently running IE11 on Windows 7 and it's still not displaying the video for the ads. I typically run Firefox, but since FF 28, I've had some major memory usage and slowdown issues. I decided to update my IE to 11, and so far I'm really liking IE 11 over the current FF (I though I'd never prefer IE).

One important note for users of IE11 working with a 64 bit OS ... check that Enhanced Protected Mode is TURNED OFF (unchecked) under Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security. EPM allows only 64-bit processes which can cause a ton of compatibility issues currently. Turning EPM off runs 32-bit which fixes many of the plug-in and website issues. I've still seen some strange quirks with IE11, but it's at least running better than FF for me.

Thank you, Broktoon.
I checked and it was already off.

Perhaps IE11 is working better now,
as it's been quite a while since it was offered.

They're baaaaaack . . .

Have been getting them the last couple of days. So strange . . . and annoying!

While I have now seen this, I have yet to duplicate it since then.
