As a fifth grade teacher, television is a rare commodity and I am missing out year after year. I have finally decided I would like to buy a TiVO and catch up on the weekends when possible with my favorite shows. I am planning on paying the lifetime fee, but was wondering what happens when I move into a new home in about a year or so. Do I pay again or a separate fee?

I believe it travels with you; but I'm not 100% on that. I have DirecTv with TIVO, and the lifetime plan wasn't an option.

The Lifetime fee goes with the box. So you can move and as long as you still have the box you are fine. You only have to pay if you get a new box.

I thought they did away with the lifetime subscription a couple of months ago. :confused3 If that is the case you could still buy a box off ebay that had the lifetime.

TIVO is Great!

You can also rent a tivo now along with the subscription. Get one with a DVD writer!!! See their website

They no longer offer the lifetime subscription. You can buy a used one with Lifetime from ebay. Just be careful how some of them word the auctions. They'll advertise it as Lifetime but they are really referring to basic Lifetime, which means it is as good as a VCR. What you want is Lifetime Plus.

The new pricing actually will allow you to get a TiVo just paying the monthly fee (no cost for the box). They're very-much pulling away from the "lifetime" model. I would be very careful about buying a TiVo through eBay. Remember that TiVo cannot help you go up against the seller if what they sold you isn't what you thought it was going to be.

Basically the box is free, and you just pay a monthly charge.

We just got a Tivo last month. We got the one-year plan, which is $19.95/mo. for one year and then we pay just the service fee after the first year (I think it's $13.95). Also, there was a $150 rebate for our Tivo. Check under Rebates on http://www.tivo.com to see if there are any rebates currently being offered.

We love our Tivo! It's worth every penny.

Check into DirectTV's TIVO also. It might work out to be a better deal for you.

The allure of DirectTiVo is wearing off, if you read the TiVo forums. TiVo offers its own dual tuners now (which was the main claim-to-fame of the DirectTiVo) and they're not tied to one specific satellite service, as the DirectTiVo is.
