I am trying to request a loop with my reservations (cabin) in Nov. Can anyone tell me what loops have the water...or which ones they know do not. I like the cabins because my son can play outside.....but if there is standing water...might as well stay at a villa.

Thanks

You are camping in FLORIDA. Florida is made up of SWAMPS. When it rains, the water GATHERS.

And water stands around the villas as well as around the cabins. We learn pretty early on not to walk in the grass right after a rain - let it drain a bit first. What looks like an expanse of green lawn can be some hybrid grass with a two inch deep or more puddle hiding underneath. Unless you have a day when it rains all day, it usually doesn't take long for the heat to dry up the excess water.

Disney did a masterful job of engineering when they designed the drainage systems for the entire area. Some sites will have water around them depending on what the weather has been like recently. We went from low levels in the pond, next to the bike barn last summer, to some sites having standing water around them recently. You may ask the front desk about which sites would have the least amount of potential water.
Also, its not a constant issue at FW, I have only seen it a couple of times and it has always been after VERY heavy rains for an extended period.

It's kind of like the tree clearing in that I think yours is a question without an answer. When we arrived we had water and underbrush, by the time we left , both were gonepixiedust: .

that begs the question, which came first, the underbrush or the water?

It rained 5 of the 7 days we were at the fort in April...sometimes quite heavily. I don't remember seeing any standing water ANYWHERE around the campground. We rode bikes and a golf cart and went for walks and water wasn't a problem. :thumbsup2

Yea, it all depends on how much rain there has been, and how much there was before. Water in Florida tends not to drain off, go figure considering how flat we are ;)

The good thing is that Mother Nature also made most Florida soil very porous, so while it may hold that water, it won't hold it for long. It won't take long for it to drain itself away into the ground.

Standing water is nothing to worry about, even if your kid jumped in it it's not like anything will happen. Of course, better safe than sorry, but I wouldn't go overboard worrying about it. We're not talking lake size or anything :)

thanks everyone for the replies....

I do let my son have fun. I am by no means a party pooper in my sons eyes. It is the mosquitos that I was thinking about with all of the standing water. And the wet clothes. Do they spray?

Maybe I will see an otter in all of that standing water....(yes, I am a lurker).

Being a mom myself, I understand your concern about the mosquitoes. I do believe they spray at FW (and all of WDW if recall), I can hardly ever remember being bit by mosquitoes in the 20 plus visits to the World. Have a great time no matter what you decide!

Yep, they do spray, quite regularly actually. We're really starting to get to the end of mosquito season anyways, but even so, I've seen them spraying lots of times :)
