Attn. Drivers. Sad video. Grab tissue *GRAPHIC*

I am definitely not one for censorship or political correctness, but you might want to put a *WARNING*GRAPHIC* on this one.

It was incredibly difficult to watch.

And, I agree, it was heart wrenchingly sad:guilty:

That was tough to watch.
I wish this could be shown to everyone getting or renewing a drivers license, but sad to say most people think that won't happen to them.

I generally don't click on youtube links in threads. I'm sorry that I broke my rule for this one.

 Oh... my God. I couldn't get past a minute, had to shut it off. Holy moly!! :sad1:

Thanks everyone....I'm heeding all your warnings and not clicking on the link!

I DO however think teen drivers should watch stuff like this. We had the scary videos in drivers training and they really did make an impression on us. I often think about the videos I saw and drive more carefully because of them.

Hmmm...DD is actually at her Driver's Ed class right now. I'll have DH look at the link tonight & see if he thinks DD should watch it.

I think ALL drivers should watch the entire thing. Just shows you how easy it is for an accident to occur. It really reminds me to keep my entire focus on the road while driving. It's so easy to get distracted.

Very true.....after watching it I thought ahead to a drive I'm taking later this week and ran through my head some details on how I can be safe during my drive. I agree that it's just so easy to get distracted ...and taking your eyes away from the road for even slightest moment can cause such horrors.

It really was hard to watch but I did watch the whole thing.

Absolutely! The little bit that I *did* watch, all of the drivers were obviously adult. Honestly it's not as horrible as some of the movies teens watch these days, other than the fact that it's so "real" and "normal" looking.

My daughter starts learning to drive next year. I'm contemplating holding onto this video until then and letting her try to watch it; I don't think she'll get much farther than I did, and she's a VERY sensible kid, so I'm not too worried.

What would the main purpose be for filming something like this? Could it be that it may be effective especially for our teen drivers. Anything that works and saves a life is OK by me. It should be mandatory for teens and new drivers to watch this and take a seat belt safety course.

Since its marked graphic - I hope it is left for those that would benefit from seeing it or sharing it with our children to POUND the message home.

Remember when you were a teen? If it makes you think twice it had an effect.

Weren't quite a few of those images from traffic cameras? Those would be real.....wouldn't they? I mean this wasn't something created and filmed was it?

That's maybe what shook me up the most about watching it was that some of it was real.

Wow, that was pretty intense beyond all reason!

The point of it is to get it through people's head to slow down and follow the laws.

Plus hopefully people walking out into traffic from between parked cars should take heed. Incredibly stupid. Also to watch the road when you are in a crosswalk. I don't trust anyone.

I got to the part with the train, and I had to immediately turn it off. My father was killed at a train crossing that had no gates during a snow storm. Just too much to watch.

I didn't post this for the GRAPHIC factor. I put it up because it touched me and rang true of stupid distractions we all face every day. It only takes a second to change a life. I just thought maybe someone would watch this and remember it. Maybe save a life. But that being said, sometimes you have to have a shocking reminder that this things DO happen and because of stupid distractions....

Yes, I know the one at 1:38 is real - I remember hearing about it when it happened. That guy SURVIVED by the way, but still what a horrible thing! I think the one at :51 is real as well, but I'm not certain. The one at 3:26 is real - it was footage shot from a news helicoptor of a vehicle running from police. That one is truly horrific. The original of that one (without the soundtrack) is on YouTube, and you can hear the camera operator cursing at the horror of it. Several of the others are real as well. Truly frightening.

There are a lot of these type videos on YouTube, and I think they should all be required watching for drivers. Note how many totally innocent victims there were. Even though many of these clips were staged, things like this happen every day in real life. You don't have to be doing anything wrong to be in a serious accident. All it takes is someone else not paying attention. :sad1:

The inattentive drivers are victims too. The man who swerved to miss a dog while trying to pass will live with the guilt for the rest of his life. I know that one ISN'T actually a real event, but real people do things like that, and real people die or are permanently injured because of it.

There was an accident here last December, a man walking with his 3 year old son beside him and infant in a stroller were hit while legally crossing a street in a crosswalk. A driver turning left (also legally) didn't see them; I guess they were focused on watching for a break in oncoming traffic and didn't check for pedestrians. The 3 year old had a broken neck. Fortunately he was not paralyzed because a bystander was an ER nurse and kept his C-spine stablized until paramedics arrived. I can only imagine that the driver must relive that in their nightmares.

For those who want to show their teen drivers (or ANY age driver) what can happen when you don't pay attention, here are some other good examples (good meaning VERY REALISTIC GRAPHIC dramatizations)

This is the "texting while driving" one that the police department in Wales did. A VERY VERY VERY graphic dramatization.

A non-graphic (but still emotionally intense) follow-up to the texting and driving one:

This one does not show the accident, but was made by the victim after he recovered. Still very graphic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkyRvW1cBB4&feature=related

Be careful out there, everyone!
