:wave2: Can anyone tell me how the bugs are right now in the Disney area? :confused3 Especially the mosquitos. My son gets huge welts if bitten by one, but do not want to lug down spray if they are not bad right now. We live in Michigan, and they have finally calmed down in our area. Thanks for the info!

5 days until we fly off to never never land!!

I think Disney treats thier land, because I'm usually a mosquito magnet, and I didn't get one bite down there. I didn't use any spray, and I was okay. If you are staying off property, then I would bring some, just incase other resorts don't treat thier land. Have fun down there! ::MickeyMo

Thanks so much! Thats just one less thing I have to lug around the parks! I'm sure I'll replace it with something else before we go!!

I was down there last year, around the 23rd. I usually also am a mosquito magnet, and have never been badly effected at WDW, even at AK, which I would consider to be the most lush of all the parks.
Granted we had pretty good breezes the whole time due to hurricane Jeanne coming in.

The strangest thing happened with the bugs on our trip last week. We did not bother with bug spray (we actually forgot), but the only ones of us that got bit were me and Dh and we only got bit around our ankles. Right where our sock line was. We both got bit about 10 times each. That was the only place we got bit. It was weird :confused3

We were there the end of August '05 and no problems. I was standing in my driveway, one evening, and got 23 bites in about 40 mins, talking to a neighbor. I didn't get one in WDW and neither did dh or ds.

I too am allergic to bug bites. I was bitten 3 times while staying at POP 8/22 - 8/25. I have two bites that still have not healed. I forgot the lotion I use and though it wasn't too buggy one bite can do me in. I've been kicking myself for trying to travel light.

I am dessert for mosquitos! They love me and my poor kids! Like yours, my children get nasty red welts that last for soooo long.

We were in WDW staying at POR between August 20-27 and there were NO MOSQUITOS!!!! We did not encounter any at all. I am sure you will find it "mosquito-free".

Have fun!!!

Mosquitos may not be a problem, but just so you will be prepared. Lovebug season has started.

Could it be the scented detergent/fabric softener that the socks were washed with?? Maybe the shoes?

We were there Aug. 21-25 and I was truly surprised at the lack of flying critters. I mean, here in PA on hot summer nights, bugs are so thick around the lights it looks like moving clouds. But at DW, no bugs, not even around the lights at night. hmmmmm - strange

In October time no bites. May, this year, my poor DH, bitten all over...not a happy bunny. He is more attractive to bugs than me, though I think they have felt sorry for his run in May-time as they wont leave me alone at the moment!! I have a swollen wrist at the moment..stupid things.

I been to disney more than a dozen times since 98 and NEVER EVER saw a bug on my body or anyone in the family. Skeeters love me everywhere but disney I guess cause usually they eat me alive.

I don't even bother taking bug spray to disney anymore.

We stayed at the WL 2 weeks ago. The boat was loaded with them outside and inside at night. The CR dock area was also loaded with them in the morning on the side of the bldg by the pool. A CM was hosing them off the walls. I don't recall ever seeing that many mosquitos there before.

I didn't chance it, living in South FL this is mosquito time so we brought the Avon Buguard and put it on (dd and I both swell up from bites) and not one bite! It's pretty good stuff and being that it's a lotion and sunscreen it doesn't feel icky on your skin. It actually has a nice fragrance. We always bring it to WDW and use it during the warmer months.

Disney sprays for mosquitoes both to protect guests from lots of bites and prevent the spread of disease. Also, bites around your ankles is usually fleas.
