Ok so I will be taking my 2 month old in Sept. How do you nursing mothers do it when you are at the parks? Need advice...thanks!

Just...nurse!

If you're not comfortable nursing in public, the Baby Care Center is centrally located at DL and has a private nursing area.

I've nursed on several rides - POTC and Small World are great because they are long rides.

I bought a hooter hider and would nurse my daughter on a bench or anywhere I could find to sit while in amusement parks.

I didn't bring a baby that young, but with nursing...nurse when baby is hungry, IGNORE the people around you (don't waste time wondering if that person's expression means "yay for you" or "ewwwww", just don't look around at all), do what you gotta do (DS never once nursed with fabric over his face, it bugged him beyond anything), and don't worry b/c that stresses you and will make you sweaty and miserable.

I loved POTC for nursing b/c it's so long. Small World too.

Remember that all rides have video monitoring, so just b/c you're in the dark doesn't mean you're all alone. :)

I have a wonderful Scootababy that I carried our baby in most of the time. It was wonderful and comfortable. Instead of purchasing a cover, I used a receiving blanket and pinned it with one of those good paper clips that clasp, it makes it easy to nurse anywhere. I was able to be on the go at all times this way. I agree with MonkeyMonkey, those are great nursing rides. Especially POTC for me.

Nurse her however you feel comfortable, and beam benignly at anyone who looks potentially snotty.

The civil code says:

"Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, except the private home or residence of another, where the mother and the child are otherwise authorized to be present."

I assume that doesn't include California Screamin' :p , but if anyone gets twitchy, you can calmly tell them that you are legally entitled to feed your daughter in Cafe Orleans/walking down Main Street/in Tarzan's Treehouse/watching the fireworks.

Do you babywear? Slings are good for hands-free, discreet nursing, and you might find it less cumbersome than pushing a stroller.

I didn't nurse at Disney, but I did nurse 2 babies, both for a year, wherever and whenever. Don't worry about other people. Obviously we nursing mothers are as discreet as possible, but if someone doesn't like it, they are free to face elsewhere. I never covered with fabric either - too cumbersome - I feel my shirt gave enough coverage.

Oh, if you don't have a nursing tank, get a cheap tank top and just cut off the whole area where your bra is. Then you can wear that under your shirt and you'll be covered in the stomach/back area. I liked that too, because then everything was covered, minus the millisecond when the baby was actually latching.

Don't worry about anyone else. Nurse how you need to!!

Kim :)

My little guy was 5 months when we went last and I was nursing. I had a cover and found a spot on a bench or somewhere. But it was crowded so I took to just finding a nice shady (it was very hot when we were there) spot and plunking down on the ground, covering up and nursed. No really paid any attention. It beat having to always look for a bench or returning to the Baby Care place on Main Street.

I agree--just nurse where ever you need to! I nursed 2 kids. I'll admit with the first one I was very nervous about nursing in public, but a hungry/fussy baby will cure those nerves in an instant! Just as you see women bottle feeding anywhere and everywhere--you should treat nursing the same.

I am a VERY modest person (you can barely get me in a bathing suit!), yet I made nursing work for me by just focusing on the job at hand. Covering a baby with a blanket (especially in the heat) is often impossible, because even if the mom wants to use it, the baby often doesn't like it and will cry or pull it off. I just would try to be natural about it, and honestly--there was nothing to see at all when the baby was latched on.

I recommend the Tiki Room for a nice place to nurse if you need some air conditioning and a seat.

Good luck!
Lisa

All of you are AWESOME:cheer2:! Thank you so much for the useful advice. Because I am rather modest (don't do well in swimsuits either)...I will use one of those covers...BUT I might be brave and JUST DO IT...and forget what everyone else says...it's not like I'll se them ever again. I did have a sling, but was so hard to use it. I like the idea about nursing in PotC, Tiki Room, etc. Thank you again!

I wore her in a snugglie facing me, when she wanted to nurse she was in a great position, I just threw my cover up over her and she nursed. I did this walking around (we were at WDW) and on many rides, too. It was easy! I did have a slight "scare" when Stitch came over to "play" and tried to pull my cover up off. I explained to him not to touch it because I had a little one eating under there. His actions at the sound of that quite amused the other guests. :goodvibes

I made my own nursing covers and used them all the time at Disneyland. (There are free patterns on the web if you're feeling crafty.) I would say that 90% of people don't even know that you're nursing, and the vast majority of the remaining 10% are mothers who nursed and can spot the signs of a nursing baby. Obviously they don't mind!

My first kid didn't nurse well on rides - too loud. So the baby center worked well for her. But the 2nd was a trooper and could nurse just about anywhere. The parking tram was one of his favorite spots!

OOh, I think I am feeling rather crafty...but what do I look up? "Patterns for???":)

I second the suggestion for "wearing baby" (I hate that term :rotfl:). No taking baby in and out of the stroller for rides, etc. I wore a Baby Bjourn with my 6 mo old and baby stayed right in it on and off rides. Very convenient especially when they are sleeping. I had one CM on Winnie the Pooh tell me I needed to turn her facing forward, but she was asleep and they let it go. Since a 2 month old can't face forward, you should be just fine.

:thumbsup2

She'll be 4 months then...but I will look at what a baby bjourn is...thankx!

First one we were able to use the Fantasyland Theater, what a joy that place was, then we had twins so DW started using First Aid/Baby Care 'cuz it was cool and quiet.

Sept. can be hot so you might want to scout out where Baby Care is.

The park shouldn't be crowded so finding a place to sit in the shade should be easier if Baby Care Center isn't convenient.

Thank you! I never heard of the Fantasyland Theater. Where is that? I couldn't imagine how it would be with twins...I'd get overwhelmed.
