Attendance at Fort Wilderness

We have not cancelled our trip but we definately factored in higher gas prices and decided not to go to the Fort for the first time this year. I bought a new Pop-Up in October with Disney in mind. But with gas so high and Disney giving free dining again I had to chose the resort over the Fort. As it is I'm saving about 900 on food. Had I taken the camper gas would have cost me an extra 300 -500 and then we would have had to buy and cook our food. I don't think I wanna do that a lot after a long day in the parks.

Hopefully gas will not go over 5 dollars a gallon next year like predicted or it may ruin our Christmas trip in Dec 09. Then I'll never get to stay at the Fort.

Werent you supposed to retire and get a real job so you could afford to go to Disney more often ? ;)

Teds of course!

I just thought I'd let you know... you suck!!! I suppose you had Weber's mustard on your char-broiled hot dog, too. Huh?

I just had a hot dog cooked in a microwave with Frenches mustard - thinkin' "yeah, that's pretty good". Then YOU have to post about eating a Ted's Hot Dog!!! Well, that just.......SUCKS!!! Why don't you brag about Beef on Weck while you're at it too.

Yes I'm looking to retire in October but I plan on taking a fill in job making about the same until the new factory opens in 2 or 3 years. Then I will be making better money and can go to Disney more.

Either way its hard to argue with free dining and a nice resort.

Hi, all. I'm still new to the DIS, but definitely not to the pain of this economy! We were hoping for an Oct. '09 trip to the Fort, but with the cost of diesel, I think (if we can afford WDW at all!) it's going to be cheaper to fly and, perish the thought, stay...off....property. :scared1:

I talked to a guy I know who works at the local grocery store. He was venting how the food wholesalers charge them a fuel surcharge and in turn they have to charge the store customers more. So, basically, if I understand this correctly, the food wholesaler is still making their profits and so is the grocery store owner. The only ones who KEEP paying are US!!!! Not only at the pump, but everywhere else, too.

Eventually this will have to have a negative effect on FW. I can only imagine what we will be paying for diesel a year from now!!!

Yeah, her fantasy was to grab the flag then run all over the park with the tour group chasing her

About 3 years ago we went in July and the Brazilian kids were everywhere. They didn't effect us much since we generally don't have to wait in lines. But if we did I probably would have demanded a refund and left due to their noise. I don't like noise and my DD is very sensitive to it. I think it actually hurts her. I know its easy money for Disney to book tour groups but they really need to assign a CM to stay with these very large groups and keep them down to a dull roar. The loud singing and chanting is really annoying in my opinion and ruins the magic for normal people.

I like the flag stealing idea too.

So that's where they come from huh? DD and I were at Universal last year and about a 100 of them were in line for Ripsaw Falls and about every 5 minutes they would start chanting and clapping some BS. I had a few pennies in my pocket and every few minutes I'd act like I was putting my arm up against the wall and just flick the hell out of a penny towards them. They kept looking but never saw who dunnit lol. I was so glad to get away from them.

Yep thats them. They are usually from Brazil or Spain I think. Its usually about 50 to 75 teens led by one adult with a flag. They all wear matching shirts and to pass the time they compete with other groups to see who can chant the loudest. If you are unlucky and get three or more groups around you it is very annoying to put it mildly.

We were miserable. It was our last day and we really wanted to do the ride. If I see them again we'll just leave as you said. Nothing is worth that.

Man oh Man.... first its the picking of fights on the boats and now you are assaulting foreign tourists....... You need to spend some time with you peeps drinking some beer and relaxing...... I think you should tell your insurance company that you are going into a program, it will cost about $1000 on a Flying J gift card, then you will need a week off and a LOT of beer (probably should get some pistachios to go with the beer) :thumbsup2

Let me know when the card will get here.......

I was thinking the same thing, what did he flick at those old ladies to make them want to fight him on that boat?????

You need to see a therapist for all that anger.

Here's some pictures from December 2001 that shows how low the crowds were at MK and Universal. It was creepy.

We were there in the first week of October 2001, you are right- it was creepy!

We are not looking forward to gas prices to tow, but what we would save over flying or driving (no TT) and staying at a FW cabin (which is what our orginal ressie was for) is still over $1200... that is gas alone there!

I didn't do anything to the old ladies but be respectful. I'll never live that night down. Should've never said a word. I'd do it again if situation arises so if you're sittin and elderly folks are on board standing be prepared for battle lol. BTW, I got 3 warnings in my camp now. At this rate I'll be in the dark for the 4th of July GG. I'll have top get G-Dad to send me the info because I'll be banned by then lol.

I got gas on my way to work this morning($10.00)..and I basically got enough to get me to the bank to get more money so I could get more gas?...Did that make sense?:confused3 I noticed the diesel price was $4.89, and the attendent commented that by Fri. it will officially be $5.00.

Regarding the Brazilian tour groups, they are mentioned in the "Unofficial Guide to Disney". Before reading this a neighbor told us how when they visited in July they encountered these groups, and it was horrible. She wrote to Disney..but heard nothing back of course. More than once they would wait on a long line only to have 75 people suddenly cut ahead of them. Seems the tour would have one person wait in the line, and the rest would join them when the line moved toward the entry to the ride. How RUDE!

We went Ocober 2001 and I remember Magic Kingdom Main Street just a handful of people. Very different!

We've been talking about how flying would be less expensive, but with AA's new pricing for all checked bags that advantage could soon be out the window too :sad2:

I think AA's move to charge for that first bag is only the beginning of increasing air fares. They also said they expect to reduce capacity by 11% by the end of the year. This will mean higher airfares, more crowded planes, and less flexibility all around. AA is probably just the first and you'll probably see the other airlines follow suit. Any advantage that the cost of flying for a family of 4 may have now will probably disappear quickly.
