Has anyone attempted a WDW visit during Spring break??? Am I NUTS??? Out of all the worst times being most crowded, which would you choose?

Spring break
Summer and when????
Thanksgiving
Christmas

The reason I ask is, if I am offered a job at a school that I just interviewed for I will not be able to go on my scheduled time I will have to reschedule my trip...so I have to work around school...I did not want tohave to do that but this job is great pay and benefits and I understand why I can not vacation is the school year. Any suggestions???

Kinda upset but hoping for the job!! Praying....

thanks

A group of friends and I went to WDW in 2004 during our Spring Break (sometime in March) and never felt like the place was over crowded. There was a substantial number of people there, but we never had to wait more than 45 minutes for a ride, and FP's were great. I wouldn't totally disregard it. Comparing it to the other times, Christmas would be the least crowded as long as it is before the 20th or so of December, and I love WDW this time of year. I'm not sure about Thanksgiving and summer time is just tooooo HHHHOOOTTT!!!!!

We LOVED our Spring Break trip and never felt overwhelmed by crowds, even though there was much discussion the DIS about all 4 counties surrounding WDW having Spring Break the exact same time. We used early EMH for MK and AK (MK was great for early EMH, avoid AK for EMH on a Saturday over Spring Break right before Easter ...silly me  . I wouldn't worry about it. Planning will help.

thanks you guys
I can't believe I may have to pass up my free dining and Poly trip (without the free dining and value season we could not afford the Poly) but it is God's hands now. My family could really benefit from the job and it would not be right to take or ask for that time off being a new employee...IMO. Thanks again...I need to get a few things figured out I guess :sunny:

I've done it twice and would prefer to NEVER do it again during spring break. But....thats only because I have been to WDW when it is not crowded and its frustrating waiting in lines when you're not used to it. If it was spring break or nothing I'd do spring break knowing it was going to be very crowded!

MOMOFMNM, we have done it on more than one occasion. It can be done, but be prepared for big crowds. I definitely recommend staying onsite, preferably in one of the EPCOT resorts or the MAgic Kingdom ones. They are the "closest to the action", allowing easy travel times to and from the resort. I defintely recommend taking a midday break to return to the resort to unwind too.

I've had a similiar situation. Already had a tripped planned and paid for way in advance, then ended up switching jobs. My first week of starting, I spoke to my manager and explained that I already had a trip planned. I told him that if he would rather I cancel, that is fine, but didn't want to lose my deposit or disappoint the family if possible. He had no problem with it. They had started me with vacation, so I just used a week of it.

Of course, if you think it would jeopardize your position, then the job is definitely more important.

I agree that I would at least try explaining that I already had the trip planned, deposits made, etc and see what they say. I think if they can manage without you, they should let you go.

As for going during Spring Break--well, it depends when exactly your spring break is. If it's the week before Easter, forget it! If it's earlier or later it will be fine. Our break is always the week around March 17th, and we have gone twice at that time and it has been fine both times. This was in years when Easter was much later in April though. If Easter was in mid-March, I would not go then.

So, from your list, I would go on Thanksgiving or Spring Break depending when your break is in relation to Easter. Or, summer would be OK too once again, depending on when your school lets out for summer and goes back in fall. You may be able to go very close to those dates and be OK for crowds. I think if you've been several times before, and you know how to do it (fastpass, early mornings, EMHs, etc) and you know what to expect, you will be fine.

Are the crowds worse over Spring Break - I've been three times but always in the summer - do you think it would seem much more crowded to me - at least it wouldn't be 100 degrees out :goodvibes

I went in March last year and the crowds were very managable (except for one day @ MGM). We were expecting much bigger crowds since it was peak season. My friend is in college so this was the only week we could go. I would definately go again in March. We've been in June and it was much more crowded to me than Spring Break!!! It's also much cooler in March!!!

We were just there this past March during Spring Break. It was awful. I will never do it again. We weren't able to do as much. Waiting in the long, long lines was very draining. The first couple of times it was okay, but after a bit we were just so tired of it. I couldn't take standing in another hour long line - and pretty much everything was at least an hour wait. Some stuff the wait was nearly 2 hours. We even had to wait in line just to go the bathroom. It just spoiled the week for us. Too many people.
