Wanted to try and go their through an exchange, and was told, that No, Disney doesn't have any way to do this....

That they were considering adding them to the list for exchanges, but an agreement was never reached, and so didn't do it.

What a bummer!

So then I looked at my All EARS newsletter, and read about the day excursion to Atlantis from the cruise, and noticed that you can go visit, and walk around, but NOT use the pools.

Not what I was expecting....

Any ideas??? I guess I'll contact them directly, but what a drag.

FYI - I was getting ready to rebuttal on the DVC thread, do you feel like we're getting less lately, but now, I wonder?

I received an e-mail today from Atlantis for a special.

PM me if you want the code.

Maybe you can just pay cash if this is a good deal.

Actually they did add it and then took it off. The stated reason they took it off was that II has no availability. Frankly that's a crock. While I'm sure there was no availability, this was obviously a temporary situation due to the fact the resort was new then closed for a few months for some repairs related to water damage from some huricaines and apparently shotty workmanship. Still, anyone knowledgeable about II should have known this would ease up somewhat in another couple of years. My guess is that part of the issue is that it's Starwood and they feel they are in direct competition. While I understand that St. John is also a starwood property, there's a big difference there. I also understand the same could be said for Marriott but it seems DVC has a working relationship with them. Many of the properties on the II exchange list are just as unlikely to be available all or part of the year like the Maui Marriott.

We stayed at the Harborside at Atlantis with our Vistana/Starwood timeshare February of 2002, it was a last minute trip and because of 9/11/01, they had openings 45 days in advance. My 2 bedroom unit that sleeps 8 in Vistana Lakes for 7 nights turned into 6 nights in a premium unit at Harborside. The place is great, but not very big. If you really wanted to go, I would go to TUG2.net and find a rental.

We took a DCL cruise in May. The cost of the beach only (i.e., no pool) excursion to Atlantis would have been nearly $200 for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids). Instead, we booked a day room at the Comfort Suites right next door to Atlantis. Comfort Suites guests get all the same pool and beach privledges as Atlantis guests and the room only cost $175 per night instead of nearly $300 per night at Atlantis.

Alas, we had to cancel our CS res so I can't give any report about the rooms there. However, while on the cruise we did visit Atlantis on a self-guided tour (read: free). It was very very nice and bustling with activity. They guard the grounds very well so we could only tour the public areas inside the hotel, not the pool and beach area. Nevertheless, we liked what we saw enough to decide it would be our vacation destination next year - my 40th bday. (Guess I'll have to start renting out my DVC points soon...)
