Atlantis/Nassau Question

Our next cruise to Nassau we will have both kids and my mother who has somewhat limited mobility. We all want to see Atlantis, but I have heard that the shore excursion only gives you limited access. Someone had suggested to me that you could rent a room at the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island and you had full access to all of the Atlantis facilities. I am very interested in this because it would give us a place to go for the kids to take a break/nap and also my mom if she was tired.

My questions are:
1) Is this true?

2) If we rent a day room or even a room including the night can we get our access to Atlantis before it is time to actually check in to the room?

3) Has anyone done this and did it work fairly smooth?

4) How far is the Comfort Suites from Atlantis?

Thanks for your help.

I was looking at my COSTCO Travel magazine (that you get for free at the club) and I noticed that! It states in the magazine that if you book a room at the Comfort Suites, you can enjoy ALL the amenities that Atlantis has to offer!!! I wish I had known that BEFORE we went on our cruise.

Yes - when we went last year we booked a room (shop around as rates can differ and the hotel fills up fast). We did a Taxi share to get there and back. Agreed on the price before leaving. Had a great driver that gave us a little tour and history of the island. We never even saw our room as we went directly to the Atlantis. It is about a 5 mintue walk. It was very easy and well worth the money. We had a ball. Not nearly long enough. The only thing to keep in mind is I have read they only allow 4 wrist bands per room. (Do allow some time for shopping before getting back on the ship) Have a GREAT time!

If you go to the Comfort Suites keep in mind that the room might not be ready until 3:00 so not much time for naps. The Atlantis is huge and very hard to get around if you have trouble walking. They have few elevators to get down to the pool area for guest. I had trouble the first time I went with strollers. We ended up carrying the stroller down many flights of stairs. They don't have the same handicap access laws that they have in the US. We recently got a room at the Comfort Suites but My Mom and MIL did the garden tour via the Disney Cruise. I knew the Atlantis would be too much for them.

Thanks for the advice. We booked a room for the day coming up. FYI, they are considering making all reservations a three night minimum and also are thinking about cancelling their "day room" rental option.

Just wondering - Did you end up booking with the Comfort Suites or directly with the Atlantis?

Comfort Suites. Atlantis has not released their 2006 rates yet. You can request a reserved room with a $500 deposit (you can cancel when you get the rate). The lowest nightly rate they could quote for 2005 for that time of year for one night was $500.
