Atlantis and Comfort Suites

Has anyone ever booked the Comfort Suites Hotel for one day so that you would be able to use the Atlantis pool on the Nassau shore excursion? I had heard that Comfort Suite hotel guests have the rights to use the Atlantis pool, and that is the only way to be able to use the pools at Atlantis. I was wondering how easy it is to do, as far as checking in and out, and how far it is from Atlantis, and is it worth doing. I found I could get rate of $200, and the Atalntis tour is about $100 for party of 4, without pool use. Also, how easy is it to take taxi or water taxi from Disney boat to hotel?

Hi michboro, and welcome to the DIS! It's been a few years since we've done this (that particular cruise was in 2002), but this is how it worked for us:

We took a cab from the ship over to the Comfort Suites. Don't remember exactly how long it took, but it was definitely pretty short. We checked into the CS hotel, and told them we were on a cruise ship and would only be using the hotel for the day. We asked if it was necessary to come back to check-out and were told no, they could mail us our final bill. We got our vouchers for the Atlantis pool, then walked across the street to Atlantis. Again, don't remember exactly how long it was, but it was pretty short. Once we arrived at Atlantis, we checked out the lobby, walked through the casino (made $11, whoo hoo!), then headed out to the pool. We traded our vouchers in for wristbands, and were set up in a great spot by the pool. We spent the entire day using the pool and slides, then packed up to go back to the ship. We did not go back to Comfort Suites; we just walked to the front of Atlantis and picked up a cab to take us back to the Wonder. Several weeks after we returned home, we got a receipt in the mail from the Comfort Suites, and everything was accurate.

For us, it was well worth it and our kids (they were 10 & 12 at the time) and we all had a great time. I hope someone else who has gone more recently can confirm that this is still the way it works there. Have fun planning!

Thanks for info. Would you say taking the cabs back and forth was safe, and that there was no worry about getting transportation back to boat?

There were lots of cabs lined up outside Atlantis - very easy to catch a cab back to the ship. It all seemed pretty safe, but they do drive pretty crazy down there! All the drivers dart in and out of traffic like it's nothing!

We are considering doing this next year. It is between this and the Dolphin encounter. We love Blue Lagoon but I am think we would enjoy the Atlantis much better. I wonder how much a room at the Atlantis would run. I know you can get an older room much cheaper than a new or tower room.

I have done it both ways, first time a room at the Comfort, second time
one at Atlantis. That time we did not book in advance, the weather in Jan can be iffy so we just took a cab over when the ship docked, it was a beautiful day. I think they rented me a room for the day for $200. at
Atlantis in the midprice towers (called Coral I think). It was on the ground
floor and we walked right out to the pool area. After spending the day
there we showered in our rooms and caught a cab back to the ship.

The first time, we booked a room in advance at the comfort suites. I
worried about the weather because you had to cancel 5 days in advance
but the weather was great. There is a bit of a walk but not bad. If you
plan on using the room to shower in after your day at Atlantis bring your
own shampoo and soap, our room had neither.

Since I am only going on the 3 night Disney cruise, and the amount of time spent is Nassau is shorter than on 4 night cruise ( I think the ship leaves at 7 pm instead of around 10 pm for 4 night cruise), would booking room at Comfort Inn to use Atlantis pools be too rushed, because it is such a big resort, and I would have to worry about getting back to ship on time?

Also, as far as weather goes, the Comfort Suites has 24 hour cancellation policy. Does anyone know if I would have a way of finding out weather for Nassau by then, from Disney hotels or ship port before cruise starts?

When we went, I know we headed back to the ship around 4 - 4:30. We showered and changed for dinner back in our own stateroom, and made it to dinner (early seating) on time. We didn't feel rushed because we spent the day mostly by the pool. If you want to see as much as you can of the resort, and there is so much to see, as well as use your room at Comfort Suites, you might feel a little more rushed.

You can check the weather at weather.com ahead of time to get some idea of what the weather is supposed to be. Hopefully you will have plenty of sunshine!
