Atlanta???

Hmmmm...to be honest, the traffic sounds a lot like DFW traffic...maybe some worse. I know it take DH 1.5 hours to get to work some days, and we live 35 miles away. The drive home isn't usually any better.

We really are trying to do our research before jumping right in. We rarely do anything on a whim and tend to "over-shop" before we make a final decision.

We are planning to head out that way this summer to feel it out and see what we think about it.

I still think Georgia is beautiful and I would love to give it a shot!

I currently live in North Fulton county. The schools are great here. There is a lot of growth in this area and the traffic has become a nightmare. My husband works 3 miles from our home and it can sometimes take him a half hour or longer to get home some evenings. They are widening many of our roads here to help with traffic. We are about 20 minutes (without traffic) from Scottish Rite. I have lived in Georgia my entire life (though that is soon to change as we are moving outside of Birmingham, AL). I too live in an area where new construction (townhomes included) are going for $400,000 and up. But we do have several neighborhoods of older homes that go for right at $200,000. So you can find them here.

Also, I noticed you mentioned your son has diabetes. There is only one pediatric endocrinology group (one of my sons has thyroid issues) in the Atlanta area. I will be more than happy to give you their information so you can check into them as well. I can not say enough great things about our children's hospitals here.

Hi there! We are in Cumming which is in Forsyth county. We are about 45 minutes northeast of Atlanta (without traffic). We moved here 6 months ago from Massachusetts and we absolutely love it! We built a big, beautiful house for 2/3 what we sold our old smaller house for. Everyone is super friendly - we actually hang out with our neighbors (a foreign concept in our old neighborhood). My husband works from home, so luckily we don't have to deal with the traffic too often. It is bad! The schools here are great - we are very pleased. Our neighborhood is like a resort - we have pools, tennis, a playground, a pond, walking trails, clubhouse, gym, etc.

20 yrs (or even 10) ago I wouldn't have dreamed of moving to Cumming/Forsyth Co. However I have several friends in that area and I love it now. Forsyth was national know to be very racist when I lived there for a very short time 20 yrs ago. I got out as fast as I could. I have satred going there to shop instead of Woodstock. I don't know about the PS, but I do know it has a huge homeschool population.

Dh and I both graduated from Purdue in 1982 and moved to Atlanta. We love it. I live in Cobb county. We're close to just about everything and our home sits on a 1/2 acre lot.

We also live in Cobb county and we love it here. Our kids go to Sprayberry HS, rated #16 in the state. We only go into Atlanta a few times a year, for shows or ball games or the occasional dr appointment. Some of DHs doctors are down at Emory University Hospital, a fantastic teaching hospital. All of Christian's ped specialists are affiliated with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the #3 children's hospital in the nation.:thumbsup2 We're 30 min from the lake, 60 min from the mountains. It's a great life! All my kids are Georgia-born. Sometimes we think about moving farther out, but when we think about the services and medical care we have here, we change our minds.:cloud9:
