So, how is your situation by now? We are supposed to be flying down from Ohio on Thursday. DH has a convention so DD and I are tagging along, so I'm hoping that IF we even make it, we'll be able to get out and do some fun things and not just be stuck at the hotel all weekend.

My opinion is that its going to be a mess! We are not going to unthaw for sometime. I don't expect our school system to even open this week. I know that I won't be able to get out of my neighborhood for quite a few days.

Unfortunately, in the South we are not prepared for stuff like this. We just don't get it that often. Even if you are able to fly here Thursday, I don't think there will be much to do and you'll probably find it difficult to get around. You might check with your airline and see if they are offering cancellations without penalty and through what date.

Good luck - whatever you decide!

Yikes! Thanks for the update! We are staying right downtown at the Marquis Marriott, so if we get there we should at least be able to get to the aquarium like we had planned. There is a HUGE convention/show there this weekend, I know most hotels in the area are booked, so I'm sure a lot of people are stressing out. DH was there last year this same weekend and there was a dusting of snow and he said there were accidents everywhere, so I can only imagine what this kind of snow does to you guys! I'm sure the kids are enjoying their very rare snow days at least!

We are not due to thaw out before Saturday. If you are going to downtown, you should be fine. Last night they showed some places downtown that were open for business ( restaurants). We have plans to go to the Aquarium on Saturday. So, hopefully we will see you there.

Being downtown, you should be okay. There will be businesses open to keep you entertained. Make sure you keep a check on the airlines, though. My daughter goes to a college with MANY students who are spread around the country. Most of them are experiencing canceled flights left and right. Even when they think they have another flight scheduled, that new one is also being canceled.

Bummer! We're going on Sunday! DH has work stuff Thur - Sat, but we're staying til Sunday night to give us some extra time to do fun stuff together.

Yes, I'm keeping an eagle eye on the flights!

Dh was supposed to fly out on Monday but changed it to Wednesday but that's not looking so good either. Now he's looking at Friday or Saturday. We can get out hes at the store now but the drive to the airport is not so good right now.

Some of my daughters' classmates are having to push their flights to Saturday and Sunday. Just make sure to keep track of what's going on with your airline and Hartsfield-Jackson.

The weather channel said hopefully by Friday we will thaw out but with the continued cold temps it will be hard. No mail, ups or fedex the last 2 days. So yeah that's how it's going.

The airport is so behind and that is probably going to push out all coming flights and mess up quite a bit for the next week.

Hopefully by Sunday, things will be open again, but lots of places dowtown are closed today. The Aquarium, Childrens Museum and World of Coke are all closed today. You'll definitely want to keep an eye on things to see if they are even open this week.

OK, maybe I am overly optimistic, but I think things will be better tomorrow. I am also hoping to send my two kids to school!!

There isn't supposed to be any more rain/sleet/snow/ice it's just going to be cold.

I can see a main street from my house and it seems the cars are driving just fine on it.

I am hoping the airport is in fine shape. I leave for Rome on Friday!

I am thinking things will be better tomorrow, too. The salt trucks will have a bit more work done and people will have been driving on the roads. I know it will be cold, but I will be going to work tomorrow. There will still be ice, but just take it slow and steady.

I really hope we get to go, it is DDs 8th birthday on Thursday and this trip is a surprise for her, well it's DHs work trip, but a surprise that she gets to go. At least if we can't, she won't be disappointed. We had cake and presents last night, she got 2 $5 LPS and a $10 ds game and is perfectly content with that! I love that kid! She will be beyond thrilled if we go and are stuck at the hotel all weekend, at least there's an indoor pool!

Not sure if you're in Fulton or Forsyth, but Forsyth County, Gwinnett County and Buford City have already closed for tomorrow.

Cobb and Cherokee also. Almost all systems in and around Atlanta. In addition to checking frequently with your airline-- I'd call your hotel and confirm your reservation---some states have laws that forbid bumping someone out as long as they are paying their bill. Most of the hotels near the airport and some downtown have no rooms. If those peple don't get out........

Well as of today, we are still scheduled to fly out tomorrow. Our airport said they have started up their flights to and from ATL today. I know, we are crazy for wanting to head that way with so many people anxious to get out!

I think you will be fine. I live to the east of Atlanta, and I'm pretty sure we will be having school tomorrow. The road situation is much better. I hope you have a great time with no flight worries!
