We're going up to a Braves game next weekend and will be free Sat. to do something. Thought te aquarium would be good, but then some friends said it wasn't that great.

We've been to the Coke Museum. Any other ideas? Can't be outdoors like the Zoo or Stone Mountain due to my chemo...it's photosensitive.

Was thinking maybe Underground Atlanta??? It'll be me, DH and DS6

I'm not sure what your friends didn't like about the aquarium :confused3 , but DH and I found it AMAZING!!! :thumbsup2 Very crowded, but was very well worth the $22.50 a piece we spent on admission. :woohoo: I took 5 disks of pictures, over 150! Loved the Beluga Whales, the sea lions, and the otters....definitely some of my favorites. :p DH and I were in for about 4 hours....no kiddin'! :faint: The Underground is okay, but not worth the time in my opinion. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Blessings,

Denise

DD8 and DD6 love the aquarium! We have annual passes and have been a few times. They just got two more whale sharks in and they're supposed to be really cool. We're looking to go again in the next couple of weeks. If you decide to go, I suggest going to the website http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/ to purchase your tickets and select a reservation time. We like to go as early in the morning as possible to get a head start... kind of like going to WDW.

Another suggestion would be the Fernbank Museum of Natural History which also has an IMAX theater (as does the aquarium). The website is http://www.fernbank.edu/museum/index.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 There is also the Fernbank Science Center http://fsc.fernbank.edu/ which features a planetarium. Your DS might also be interested in the Imagine It! Children's Museum www.imaginecm.org/ These are the "indoor attractions" that come to mind. If I think of any others, I'll let you know.

If you have any other qustions, just ask.

They have whale sharks there? I love them! Here is me swimming with one. DH loves this pic because it looks like I'm dangling a tiny man in front of the shark, trying to feed him. :rotfl:

I'm looking forward to a visit. I also got the chance to swim with a whale shark, one of the highlights of my life. I want to see the aquariums exhibit of them.

We loved, loved, loved the Atlanta Aquarium!!! The BIG ocean tank is truly amazing. I could have spent an entire day just standing in front of that HUGE viewing window, watching Ralph and Norton the whale sharks swimming around with all their buddies. The beluga whales are really cool, too.

Go to the website to reserve your tickets- the Aquarium regularly sells out, especially on weekends. It's one of the hottest- and hardest to get- tickets in Atlanta right now.

Don't waste your time on the underground - there's nothing there & you have to pay to park in the parking garage!

I loved the aquarium. I thought it was the best I had seen. I loved the moving walkway with the fish overhead, or the giant tank where you can sit and watch the fish swim.

The Underground is worth skipping.

Your friend must have been thinking about another Aquarium, the one here is the best I have seen. No I am not being biased as I am native Atlantan, I have seen the chattanooga one, the one in Myrtel beach and Gatlinburg. Did not care for the one in Gatlinburg or Myrtle Beach, Ripley's just doesn't know how to do an aquarium. Everyone is right Underground sadly is nothing any more. Fernbank as mentioned in the other post are good also is the Cyclorama which is indoors and is outside the gates to the Zoo so you can go there as well. It is the civil war history battle of atlanta. Here is a web site

Another place is The Wren's Nest this is where Uncle remus Tales were written. (Brer Rabbit)

Hope you enjoy your visit. Are you coming in for the Boston games. We will be there Sat and Sun. :sunny:

Well, I think my friends must have had a brain fart or something! Sounds like the Aquarium *is* great and we'll stick with our original plan! DS6 (and the rest of us) LOVED the one in Myrtle Beach.

Thanks for the heads up on tickets. We'll order those today online.

How can you swim with the whales? Also, at Myrtle Beach we touched the string rays. Can you do something similar there?

thanks for the great reviews! We'll go for it!!

The aquarium is absolutely incredible. We bought season passes and have been there three times. :fish: :fish: :fish:

Yes you can touch creatures at the aquarium. They get a time out for 15 mins every hour though.

We also loved the aquarium! Defintely order your tickets online, as the lines can be quite long. :fish: Here is a picture of my girls and I trying to tough the stingrays.

The aquarium is absolutely amazing :thumbsup2

My DF and I got to spend only a quick couple hours there before a company function last December which was closely following the opening. The place was packed but we still had a great time.

It was my first visit to the Atlanta area and I really enjoyed the aquarium. I would love to take my DS there some day. It is definitey a DO NOT miss!!!

BTW - I agree with the others buy your tickets early!

Also the Underground is definitley NOT worth it IMO. Nothing special and not worth skipping the aquarium.

I've never been but my son went with his class and he hasn't stopped talking about it since! We've been to SeaWorld and the Chattanooga Aquarium and he LOVED this one the best! It must be something else!

btw, your friend's review is the first time I've ever heard something bad about it!

Underground UGH!!! Skip it!

The aquarium is okay but too crowded to really enjoy.
