Atlanta airport...will i make my connection?

Delta has changed one of my flights going to Orlando and i'm a bit worried i won't make it, i'm flying in from LA (orange country airport) and now have 30 minutes to change at Atlanta (i had an hour before they moved flight times) to my flight to Orlando, will i make it? How big is Atlanta airport? If i call will they charge me to change my second flight to a later time? Would appreciate any advice

They will change if you call them - the MCT in ATL is (or was last I looked) 40 minutes for DL-DL flights, so you don't even have a legal booking anymore. At least AA (my airline of choice) will automatically rebook the connection if that happens, but I think with DL you have to call, and I would.

Call, and don't accept a layover of less than an hour.

Agree with calling them. Before you do however, pick out a flight or two that works better for you. One that leaves your home airport and arrives at MCO. It does NOT have to go through Atlanta.

That being said, I have made a 10 minute connection at Atlanta, and that was switching terminals from A to B (both Delta flights). I was by myself, had a carryon bag and backpack, the tram was pulling up when I got downstairs, both gates were close to the center area, etc. It was not scheduled as a 10 minute connection, first flight was late.

This is so important. It's what makes you come across like an experienced traveler instead of a unprepared rookie. If you make it easy for the phone rep you're more likely to get what you want.

Oddly enough (sure, sure, it's so rare) this just happened to us. We went from an over 3h layover and a nice relaxed dinner, to a 40m connection in IAH. Now, we've made this very connection before, but I'd prefer to have more time. I just called with the flight numbers I wanted, explained very politely and exactly what I wanted, and a very nice lady set it up in a flash. End of story...until next time.

You must really watch those reservations because there is no guarantee the airline will notify you of changes!

Glad you got your flight changed. Atlanta is an obscenely large airport -- it's been said that even the road to hell goes through Atlanta.
