Atkins: net carbs and total carbs?

OK although I have said it before I am not following atkins but it seems I am possible weening myslef into it. I dont want to buy the book because I hate to confine myslef into one program but I am losing weight as I should be as I watch the carb in take. Today I visited to atkind building and bought some bread and choc. wafers. I noticed all the packages sadi net carbs on the front but the total carbs listed ont he back were higher. I asked the employe and she quicly (too quickly) explained. didnt understand a word she said. Could someone explain what the difference is between net carbs and total carbs? Also is sun dried tomatoes allowed on atkins? One last thing............can someone give me an example of a day on Atkins? I know there are periods such as an induction but say your past that...just an daily example menu.

Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Dietary Fiber.

(Since you can't digest the fiber, those don't really count as carbs)
 
Some Atkins products subtract any sugar alcohols as well as fiber from the total carbohydrates.

There are those who disagree with doing that.
 
I'm not on Induction anymore - and here's my typical daily menu:

Breakfast: Atkins Advantage bar and cup of coffee w/cream & splenda

or

omelette with lots of "stuff" in it and a piece of low-carb toast

Lunch: Big salad with lots of veggies, parmesan cheese, and caesar or ranch salad dressing. I usually have some kind of meat on it, like chopped deli turkey or tuna

Dinner: some kind of meat (pork chop, steak, chicken breast) along with some broccoli or cauliflower with cheese melted on top

Snacks: deli meat & cheese, pickles, cucumbers, pepperoni crisps, almonds, macadamia nuts
 

B: Blue Bunny Lite 85 Black Forest yogurt.

L: Grilled chicken wrap- Low carb LaTortilla whole wheat tortilla, grilled chicken, shredded cheese, ranch dressing. Small slice of sugar free strawberry swirl cheesecake.

D: Grilled chicken salad on a bed of lettuce-grilled chicken, pecans, apple, onion, celery, and mayo.

I usually try to keep things a bit more simple, but I've been a bit bored the last few days and decided to try some different stuff. :)
 
WOW sounds good, as I said although I havent officailly said I m doing atkins.........I THINK I AM! LOL. I have really taken into account the carb aspect. Im thinking perhaps its time for the book! lol. all those meals sounds like the kind of stuff I have been eating. any suggestions on kinda following this atkins method? because the past two weekends I have eaten bread (twice). what does atkins say about cheating? Im asking this because a friend of mine once told me that she followed it (atkins) and then when she slipped up she gained the weight back so quickly. I mean is there room for slip ups?

I try very hard not to slip up, but when it happens I just say "oh well" and hit Induction for 2-3 days to get back into the swing of it.

I buy the Natural Ovens whole grain bread that only has 3 carbs per slice. Sometimes I'll have a slice (or two) of toast for breakfast - that cures my bread cravings.

Buy the book and read the first 3 chapters to get yourself going. When you see yourself lose 5-8 pounds your first week, you definitely won't feel like slipping up! You'll be motivated!
