OK all you fellow Atkin's fans, fill me in on all the great options one has when dining around WDW. I'm now into week 3 of Atkins and just starting to plan a Feb. visit to the World. Have any of the restaurants put together an Atkins menu or special Low-Carb options??? I know this is a vacation and vacation calories/carbs don't count. (Don't we all wish!!!) But I would like to try to stay on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I plan on doing the buffets. I can get the meat I want, and the salad. Our favorites include Crystal Palace, and Hollywood & Vine. I would also think O'hanas would fit very nicely into Atkins. I plan on using the menu database here and on wdwig.com to determine our best bet. WDWIG has a listing of lowcarb stuff. Good luck.

Just wanted to suggest posting this on the WISH board as well. There are many Atkin followers there who have made WDW trips and managed to stay on plan. They may have some suggestions for you! :) Hope you have a great trip.

Atkins at the wdw is just like Atkins at home/eating out, etc.

There are many great options..meat and green veggies..not a problem anywhere you go.

Enjoy!

You can order bunless burgers at the counter service places and actually get like a 30 cent discount. :)

I dont have any suggestions to offer - but I will say that I did Atkins for a while and when I started adding carbs back into my diet..........It made me very tired.

Just a warning, if you decide to add in alot of carbs, it will probably drag you down.

By Feb, youll be eating more carbs and doing it without alot of thought. And dont worry too much because youll be burning more walking around "the world" anyway.

Go to www.allears.net and go to the dining section. THere is a low-carb food review that is pretty good. I just printed it yesterday for my DH (on Atkins) to check out. He is bound and determined to stick to the program during our trip in January. Good for him! I am on WW and probably will not be as strict as he will be, but I guess the scales will tell the tales when we return!! HOpe this helps!!

DH is doing Atkins, and we've been to Disney for a total of 6 days in the last month. He ate turkey legs from the little kiosks, steak at RainForest Cafe, Pot Roast at the Liberty Tree Tavern, and a salad with some kind of meat (chicken?) at that first big counter-service restaurant you come to in Epcot (can't remember the name!)

None of the menus have been adjusted for Atkins followers, but my DH just ate around the potatoes that came with his steak and pot roast (I'm sure he could have ordered them without potatoes, but didn't think to).

I'm vegetarian, and he's following Atkins, so we are quite a picky pair , but we both managed to find food that met our needs at the Disney parks.:) We also ate outside of the park for some meals, so that helped too.

Part of the fun about WDW vacations is cheating on your diet. The most magical thing I find about Disney is that with all the eating you do there I never gain a pound. ( Due to all the walking) You can always go back on your diet when you get back. :bounce:

Kelly, DH and I ALMOST convinced ourselves that all the walking would burn off how much we ate....but I did gain 5 pounds in the last month, due to 2 long weekends at Disney for sure! (DH refuses to weigh himself).

Shelby--

I've been on Atkins since June (down 60 lbs.). We went to the World in September and was able to stay on plan without any problems. That is til the last night when I just could not get past Ghiradelli's! When I got home, however, I lost 6 lbs! Very easy to have meat and salad, no bread. And the walking surely helps.

Good luck....you can do it!

I just read over on the resort board in a Pop Century post that they will be having a low carb cheesecake in there food court!

If this is anything like the low carb cheesecake that is found at Ruby Tuesday's then i know where i will be!

Well, I'm even pickier! I'm on a low-carb diet *and* I'm a vegetarian! My diet isn't as low-carb as Atkins (Atkins would be pretty impossible for a vegetarian), but it is still pretty tough to find food when I'm not home. Last time I was at WDW, I ate mostly tossed salads, and snuck toasted soybeans and such into the parks.

I do eat dairy and eggs, though, so I'm hoping to find sugar free ice cream in the parks. I know they have it at the ice cream carts, but I'm hoping to find it at some restaurants that have real food and such. I believe they have sugar-free ice cream at Sunshine Seasons Food Fair at the Land in Epcot. Does anyone know where else they may have sugar-free ice cream? (I'm really hoping Beaches and Cream does.)

I see that there are sugar-free brownies at several places in the Magic Kingdom. Anyone know how much starch they have?

I will be doing Atkins when we go to WDW in February, also, so this interests me as well. I remember reading some time ago on the WISH board that Ray Sharpton spoke with the chef at O'Hana's about staying low carb while eating there and it was more difficult than he anticipated. Apparently, they use a lot of sauces and so forth that contain large amounts of sugar, and so he had to have his meats specially cooked without those added carbs. At any rate, he was successful at eating low carb while at Disney, so there is hope for the rest of us!

I have also read that there are frozen juice bars in the ice cream carts that are about 8 carbs apiece (I think I read that on Deb Wills' site). You have to be careful about the sugar free ice cream because it still has more carbs than lots of Atkins dieters would want to consume (probably because of the milk).

The turkey legs that someone mentioned are wonderful. The last time I went to WDW, I ended up eating way more carbs than I should have and felt really yucky before I came home. That's why I want to stick to Atkins on our February trip - I will need all my energy for the walking!

Yes, I had the fruit bar and it had 8 grams of cards. The one I had was strawberry, and pretty tasty!

You are right that even "sugar-free" ice cream can have a substantial amount of carbs -- about 12 grams a cup for the brands I've seen most often. (I probably should have called it "no sugar added ice cream") Milk has naturally occuring sugars.

By the way, Breyers' new "carb smart" ice cream is about 8 grams of carbs a cup ( 4 per half-cup) and is really delicious!

I just saw that Breyer's low carb ice cream in the store today and wondered if it was good! I will have to try it very soon. I like Atkins ice cream bars - the ones I have had are about 3 carbs per bar - but they are wicked expensive!

I did find low carb milk today at Wal-Mart - that's the first time I have ever seen that! I bought some and am going to try it soon. I hope it tastes like regular milk - that would make it a lot easier to make low carb puddings and desserts that are milk-based.

I hope by the time we go to WDW in February, I will have lost a little bit of weight and have more energy to take in all the magic!

JudyS, they have sugarless ice cream at the fast food place in the American Pavillion at Epcot. I tried Atkins and it's not for me, but that ice cream is also low in calories and pretty good.
