It was DH's birthday yesterday and we had taken the day off, so we decided to head over to MK for the day. I dragged him into City Hall to get a birthday pin and begged him to wear it. He begrudgingly did, probably to shut me up. I told him what better place to be silly than the Magic Kingdom.
After doing rides in the morning, by lunchtime we were hungry. We thought about taking the monorail over to Epcot but none of the restaurants were sounding good at the moment. I suggested Trail's End and off we went. After the short boat ride we were there.
The restaurant wasn't very crowded and we had no wait. The hostess at check in noticed DH's pin and said happy birthday to him. Edie was our waitress and was very sweet. After we ordered our drinks, we were off to the buffet.
There was tomato bisque and chili available for the soups, as well as cornbread and biscuits. The salad bar had nice, fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, pepperoncini, shredded cheddar and cubed cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, and pudding. I think the dressings were ranch, blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette, honey mustard and french.
The hot food bar had lima beans and carrots, corn, fried rice, macaroni and cheese, cheese and pepperoni pizza, BBQ beef and buns, fried chicken, and hot apple cobbler. There was also taco meat and tortillas with condiments for tacos, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and cheese.
There was a cold food section that had turkey and swiss wraps and corned beef sandwiches on kaiser rolls.
I did try a bite of most things and between the two of us we covered just about everything except the fried rice, the corn and the corned beef sandwich. Dh said the pizza was pretty okay, not too saucy, which is what he likes. He did eat two pieces. The turkey wrap was a little soggy but tasty. The chili was very good. Flavorful but not spicy. Typical Disney mac and cheese. The fried chicken was very good. Not the best I've ever had in my life but it was tasty and not too greasy. DH said the BBQ beef was good but a little too saucy. Can you tell he doesn't like overly sauced foods? I thought the taco bar was good as well.
As we were finishing, one of the waiters made a big announcement about a birthday and DH gave me the "oh no" look. The whole restaurant sang to him and they brought out a cake with a candle. It was fun. Well, it was for me, he looked like he was going to die. Hey, I didn't arrange anything, it wasn't my fault! That was very nice of them and I didn't even have to ask. I'm sure I'll never get him to wear the birthday pin again though. The cake was about 6 inches round, a white cake with whipped cream frosting and sprinkles. We each had a piece and shared the rest with the children sitting around us. The staff at Trail's End were all so friendly and you can't beat the price. Adults are 9.99 for lunch. We didn't have any kids with us so I'm not sure what the price is for them. We were able to use the DDE so the price was even better with the discount. We left Edie a 30% tip because she was so great. The food's not gourmet but it's tasty and plentiful. I'd recommend it as a nice break from the busy park.
