With all the news warnings about natural gas prices increasing drastically we are afraid to put it above 67 degrees. At night we put it on 65. We can't go any lower because my 19 month old pulls his blanket off.

Usually between 65-68 but it's costing us a fortune and only going to get worse!!

65 when we are home

61 at night :hyper:

58 when no one is home

I don't like to financially support our utility company, Niagara Mohawk, any more than is absolutely necessary. ;0)

We do have a gas fireplace that we run in the morning and for an hour or two in the evenings. It actually warms up the whole downstairs nicely.

We got ours on 70...
You mean natural gas HASN't went up yet??:earseek:

Right now we have them all at 67/68 . . .

I locked in back in the late summer for $1.19/gal and we have gotten 2 oil deliveries already this season . . .So far total oil bills are $390.00 . . .but nothing you can do about it . . .I expect my oil cost to exceed $700 this year . . .

65 if someone is home
60 overnight
between 55-60 if we are at work

we live in an apartment building though, so we tend to benefit from the older people on our floor who crank their heat way up.

68 when I am home, but sometimes even then it's too cold for me, so I crank it up to 69 or 70. I hate being cold, and am willing to pay the extra $$.

62 at night or when I'm at work.

Well, I almost hate to post this, but I will anyways ;) .

This is our first winter with our new woodstove. We paid $450 for wood for the season. Our house is run on propane, btw. The difference between last November and this November was $150 and the difference between last December and this December was $200. Our normal bills for each month, Nov - April, were about $250. This Nov's bill was $82 and Dec's bill was $42.69! Can you believe that? We are almost even with the cost of wood, so the rest of the year is savings for us. Actually, we joke that it will cost us more in the summer to run our pool heater  .

The plus side is that the coldest it gets in the house overnight (last night at 10 degrees outside) was 64 degrees and we run about 75 all day, but at night it creeps up to almost 80 degrees sometimes! (Then we open a window and turn on the fan... whew... hot!)

So, it's a little work to keep it running all day, but I am home anyways. If we stoke it, turn it down and leave we have about 6 hours before we get cooler coals. Not too bad.

The furnace is set to 55 and hasn't been on all winter, yet.

Yay... Karen

:earseek: So cold at all of your houses!

We moved 6 months ago into a much larger and much newer house. If the thermostat is below 72 it is FREEZING in here! The last 2 days I've had it at 74 and I'm still cold. Yes I put on more clothes. I have my 17 mo bundled up but her little hands have been like ice!

At our old house it was 66 at night and 68-70 during the day.

I keep it at 71º when we are home when we are not it's set at 62º that is waaaay too cold IMHO. I sat there shivering with it at 72º last night! I'm a wimp.

We usually keep ours at 64/65 during the day and around 62 at night.

Wow! At our older, smaller house we kept in on 65 at night and 70 during the day. But at our bigger house we do 70 all the time. It's just too cold! Plus with the baby I don't feel good about keeping it low at night. His hands get so cold!

At night we keep it at 60. When Im home during the day I usually start off around 67, and slowly up it all day long until about 70 at night time. If I go out for a while during the day I will lower it enough so it wont kick on while Im out, but as soon as I return its up to 66-67 again.

So far we have only had 1 oil delivery back in November, but we should be getting some in the next couple weeks. This house is only 5 years old and we spend so much less here than we did in our older, and smaller house before we moved here. :D

We have a Monitor heater and keep it set at 72 all winter and the house stays comfortable. No need for extra clothes a sweater or anything like that. BTW we had the kerosene tank filled the end of summer and have not yet reached the 1/2 full mark.

Wow, if my thermostat goes below 75, we are freezing in our house. With a newborn we cannot afford for the house to be cold, so we keep the thermostat set to turn on if the temp in the house drops below 77, then the heat cranks up to 80 and cuts off. Then the cycle starts all over again.

Ours stays at 68º day and night. We were told by the people that installed the furnace in our new home that we would be better off finding one temp and sticking to it, rather than raising and lowering. They said that ends up costing more in the long run.

Our electrician said the same thing, which is why we did not spend the extra money on a programmable thermostat. :)

I was going to post something similar and then I saw this thread. We keep ours @ 70, we have a duplex (side by side) that is not that big of a house, however, the downstairs is constantly FREEZING, and the upstairs is constantly so hot you can't hardly stand it. We've tried a whole lot of things, closing all the vents upstairs, keeping it at a constant 70, turning the heat down to 65 at night when we're upstairs sleeping, etc. The upstairs is NEVER a problem (except maybe that it's too warm), heating wise, but the downstairs (kitchen/living room) is always cold, which means the heat is constantly running. :( It hardly stays @ or above 70 for more than a half hour, and then the heat kicks on again. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, what can we do about it, without having to pay tons to get an extra heat zone?

tricia.

Ours is at 60 while we are at work/school.
I turned it up to 72 when I got home today, that's a first for me. I usually put it on 70, but it's so cold out. I'm going to light a fire tonight too!
I turn the heat down to 60 when we got to bed, I can't stand it hot when I'm sleeping.
We have 4 zones, DS keeps his wing at 55...brrrrr

We keep ours at about 68 or so when we are home... it's more or less turned off during work hours. Anything above that is too warm for me.
