At what point do you draw the line?

My boss is going on vacation and is hinting around about finding "someone" to take their family dog to the kennel since they won't have time to do it.

The kennel is just down the street from me, but this would mean keeping the dog overnight. My DH is allergic and I just don't want to offer and start down that slippery slope. I already do a lot of personal work for the family (restaurant reservations, mailing letters, scheduling doctor appointments, hair appts., etc.).

I want to be helpful, but I don't think I should feel obligated to do this type of stuff.

Any thoughts?

Tell him/her you wish you could take the dog but explain about your DH.

And then maybe offer to ask around if you know of anyone else?

Don't do anything that could put your family's health at risk. Ask if your boss could drop the dog off the day before.... they would have more time that way. In many places there are also services that can pick your dog up and deliver it to the groomers, kennels, etc...

I personally would play the confused routine! Don't offer.

I'd play dumb, but if he outright asks, I'd say that DH is allergic and that you can't have animals in your home or car.

I have to go along with the advice already given. Don't offer, don't even let it be known that the thought had even crossed your mind. If you're asked just say that gosh, you'd like to but you just can't due to the allergies. I don't know how severe your DH's allergies are, but you can always imply (not outright say) that they're pretty bad. Remember a severe reaction not only results in discomfort for the affected person, but could incur medical bills as well. You (and your boss) certainly wouldn't want that!
