did your child stop being interested in the princesses and other characters?

We just got back from our first trip (Feb 1-8) with my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. Our plan was to go back in 2 years. From talking to others, they have said that their kids were no longer into princesses and other characters at that age. If that is the case, we may go back sooner.

Just wondering what the average age is when they are no longer interested. If it makes a difference, when we were planning to go again, my son would be an almost 8 year old and my daughter would be an almost 6 year old.

Thanks!

Depends on the child. DD 18 still loves to meet princesses and she is married now. Lol. DD12 also still likes to meet princesses. We will see what the future holds.

Mine just turned 10 and she's still all in.

If you mean meeting them in the parks, then I guess mine were odd ones out. They were only ever mildly interested in them and didn't really want to spend much, if any, park time waiting for them. Mind you, that was many years ago.

My daughter was never hugely interested in the princesses specifically, but she just turned 12 last month and when I suggested that I assumed she would no longer want an autograph book for our summer trip, she shot me a look that quickly set me straight :rotfl: So yes, it just depends on the child. Of course when I look at the photos when we get home there is no longer that wide eyed wonder expression on her face when she is getting her book signed but it is still a very important part of the visit for her. And for me, if I'm honest.

My DD was 6 1/2 our last trip. She loves the princesses and was thrilled to meet and have pictures taken with them, but if there was a line that was too long (Tink & Merida) she wasn't willing to give up park time to meet them.

It really depends on your kid. We took our first trip with all 4 kids last October (7, 7, 2 & 1) at the time. The 7yos loved eating at the castle to see the princesses, catching characters in MK when they popped up and seeing characters at MNSSHP but they certainly didn't want to miss riding a popular ride just to stand in line for a character. It was a short 3-day trip so we were focused on maximizing rides. When we take week-long trips, I like to plan early morning character breakfasts so we can see the most popular characters without missing other things. My ODD can't wait to meet the Frozen characters this fall.

Our 5 y.o. daughter is still very much into the princesses Meet 'n' Greet.

But she is, thankfully, able to walk on by if the wait time for an autograph takes away from rides and ice cream. Frankly, my wife & I have discouraged waiting for autographs, since we prefer rides, shopping, and food to having to wait for autographs.

My wife may have a change of heart for the possibility of seeing Anna & Elsa around our upcoming Akershus breakfast.....we always do one princess meal with our princess - a win-win for our family.

And I'll add, our daughter makes a meal with princess her 'must-do' along with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Test Track, Lion King and Beauty & Beast shows, and Under the Sea.

Also, our child has not shown any real interest in the dress-up part. Which is interesting, since my wife (and child's mother) makes high-end fashion clothing.

There appear to be plenty of girls in princess dresses as old as 9-10 each time we visit the Parks. Anecdotally, I can tell you we have cousins and close friends with 8 y.o. daughters who still do princess things when visiting Disney.

And to close the loop, our daughter has never had much interest in any of the Disney Characters that are not princesses.

So, I guess in the end, you will find a mixed bag of ages for when other people suggest children are, or, are not interested in characters and/or princesses.

Based on our friends and family, your daughter will probably still be interested, but you son will probably only be interested in characters a bit more edgy like the pirates and maybe Buzz or Stitch type characters.

Our boys were 16 & 14 on our last trip and did every meet and greet they could find ..... they are already talking about which ones they want to do again and where to find the characters for our next trip this coming October and they will be 18 & 16 by then.

Daughter will be 16 and when asked to choose a restaurant for our trip(mind you we have a guide book and the internet and the fact daughter looked for a week) she wanted to eat with Pooh.

Other daughter who's 10 wants Akerhaus which said is a win/win

And boy who's 10 wants Tusker House.

Heck I still like meeting characters

DD6 loves the princess's including princess Sophia. She likes rides as well, but our last visit when she was 4, she couldn't ride the big 40 inch rides so our time was spent on characters, character meals and rides with no height restrictions. Our last visit as well my 7yo niece was into the princesses as well. It depends on the child.

I'm 32 and I still like meeting the princesses!

Each child is different. Mine will be 11, 8, and 1 on our next trip and my boys are already talking about Chef Mickey's and seeing Pluto again. There are some kids in my oldest son's class who would loathe WDW, so it depends on the child. My kids say they'll never get sick of it - I'm starting to believe them.

Last time we went the kids were 4 (DD) and 7 (DS). DD loved all characters and we are going back in June when she will be 6. She is still into princesses and characters. DS on the other hand never really wanted anything to do with the characters even as a toddler. He loves Star Wars and still won't go near them either. He will be 9 this trip and I expect he will tolerate the characters because he loves his sister. :)

My kids (ds 13, ds 11, dd 10 and dd 9) still love to meet the characters. They ask them silly questions, get them to have dance contests or see how can get a character to laugh the hardest (ds13 won last time when Cinderella called him a prince and he went into full princess mode, telling her he was really a princess). I think that it really depends on the kids, but from my experience Disney brings out the kid in everyone. Ds13 was also the one that collected the Lion King stuffed animals last trip. I thought it was strange that he wanted them, but whatever. Got home and a few weeks later the neighbors went to Disney. Their ds13 came home with all the Toy Story stuffies!

What's funny is that we took our girls to DL when they were 6 & 4 and they had pretty much zero interest in characters though they loved the princesses. They just didn't want to take time away from rides to meet them. Now, my girls are 13 & 11 and they love meeting the characters. They are simply nuts about meeting the characters. All of them ;) My boys who are 5 & almost 3 are more interested in the characters than their sisters were at that age but I think they'd be fine passing them by. So, it really varies by kid. And I think age has little to do with it.

My girls are (almost) 10 and 7....they still love characters and princesses. They have already said that they will wait for hours to meet Anna and Elsa, and I believe them because we waited 2 hours to meet Rapunzel back when she was first out.
