First of all, thanks to all of you here for your kind wishes.
We've been back for a week now and have had a crazy busy work week so I'm only now getting around to sharing a bit of our trip.
Unfortunately, it got off to a shaky start at the airport very early last Saturday morning. We try to be there at least 2.5 hours before takeoff time but when we got there, a huge line of people were snaking through the terminal. Word eventually reached us that the computers were down and Continental was way behind. OK we have lots of time. We made it to the counter at 6:00 AM for a 6:30 AM takeoff! No problem, don't panic, yet ...US Customs was just as bad- the backlog having now reached there. A Continental agent came by and asked who was on the Houston flight, around a hundred people shout out in unison. So they fast track us through Customs, again through security and finally we get boarded onto the plane, late but finally on board.
The captain comes on and explains about a storm on our route so we have to re-route and are waiting for approval and that we may need to refuel and adjust the baggage to balance the plane. Then he comes on and says there's fog in Houston and we may be even later because of all the planes having to get into the airport. Finally we push back from the gate but we need to deice before we can go. With a 1.5 hour connection time I had a very bad feeling about all of these delays.
Once on the ground we sprint through the airport to our next gate and the lady there simply says, "Sorry honey, that one's gone." 1:40 PM- 10 minutes late. Over to customer service and we get put onto the 4 o'clock flight. Fine, but we had an 8 PM restaurant reservation we would certainly miss.
The rest of the day went fine, I got moved into the extra legroom section because my seat wouldn't latch in the upright position for takeoff. We checked into the hotel at 9 PM and once settled went to the restaurant to see if they could feed us. Luckily they could seat us, we were done by 11:15 and off to the bus for EPCOT where we really wanted to see the New Year's Eve fireworks. Luckily the first bus was for EPCOT and we caught most of the fireworks and enjoyed the attractions finishing off with Test Track at 1 AM just as the park was closing.
Once back at the hotel, I was very satisfied with what we had accomplished in spite of the way the day began.
I'll add more soon.
