We checked in to POR on Tuesday morning. We stayed in Alligator Bayou in December '09 and didn't care for our room. We usually stay at CSR but after visiting the POR food court last year we their we'd give it another try because of the refurbs.

We requested a mansion room so we would get e refurbed room, but after looking at the onlines photos I was worried. I thought the pics looked like an old southern womans parlor. It looked stuffy for lack of a better word. Our room is in Acadian and it's not stuffy at all. It looks like the pictures online but the feel isn't the same. I thought the table chairs looked really old fashioned but in person they aren't bad at all.

The pros: I like the double sinks and there's a lot of counter space around e sink for all our junk. There is a shelf with knobs that are perfect for hanging lanyards and backpacks. Under the shelf there's a padded bench, we moved to to the dead space beside the bed for easier access to the shelf, plus you can sit on the bench and watch tv. The wifi has been great. And best of all....... I have TV. Not wdw tv with a bunch of Disney channels and little else. We have direct tv, or at least that's what it says. I have hgtv, food network, tv land, and much more. I know you're not supposed to sit int the room and watch tv on a wdw vacation but it's great for afternoon breaks and bedtime.

Cons: it's a pretty good walk to the bus stop. We drive so it's not an issue for us. The way the vents blow on the air conditioner, it freezes the person in the bed closest to the door. The air is angled right at them and there's no way to redirect it.

Enjoying my stay!!!!!

Have fun! I just checked out of POR FQ last tuesday :( .. i totally agree with the air conditioner thing ! it was horrible.. i had to request more blankets to cover my son who was sleeping there!

I hope you have a great rest of your trip, im staying in alligator bayou in sept/oct.. but i got a preferred room, i need the murphy bed now so i have no other choice..

Have a magical rest of your trip!!

Can you comment on the lobby construction? We will be there on the 14th. Have a great trip!

have a great trip, my all time fave resort pixiedust:

We loved Piano Bob and the guy doing the character pictures of people was great too!. I never thought about doing that but it was one of my DD's favorite souvenirs!

Half of check in is still closed off. They had the painted wood walls up. The foyer looks like it s done. A CM was putting the finishing touches on it two days ago. The area next to store entrance, I guess its normally part of the bar area, has tables set up for concierge.

Do you know there is a bus stop right by your building? You are not walking all the way to the front bus stop by the gift shop, I hope!

I remember to air vents well! We usually put towels and shoes over them, to block some of the air flow.

I stayed in Acadian House and we used the bus stop right behind the building and thought it was a bit of a walk. Tolerable, though. We were on the third floor in the middle so we would have to come down the stairs/elevator, walk out around the fountain, down the sidewalk to pass the rooms that are right up to the parking lot, then down the path over to the bus stop. Not terribly far but far enough where you might not want to run back to the room if you forgot something...

Did the bus come to your stop all day? Did you use that stop to get to park opening? Were there lots of people on it already from other stops?

The buses go through all four stops all day. If you're at the main stop and you see a bus that's full and leaving, what you don't see is that another bus that's empty will go around to the other four stops. We did use it to get to park opening and had no problem. Not a lot of people from other stops... usually the bus that goes to the main depot will go on to the park and a different bus will catch the others. This was only for park openings. At other times of the day, the buses went through all four stops.

Not using the stops at all actually, we prefer to drive. We are just in between two stops. It's not a terrible walk I'm sure but it's not real close either.

I'm sorry but I can't answer, we have not taken the bus anywhere. We prefer to drive.

How do you like POR the second time.. How is it overall? Would you stay there again? Which one did you like better? POR or CSR? Thanks.
Have a wonderful vacation!! :)

Is the only work being done at POR by the check in area? Anything else under construction?

Did they mention a date for completion? Thanks so much for posting and have a great time!

Yes we have enjoyed POR very much this time around. It's interesting thr you ask this because DH and I were discussing this just today. Though we have enjoyed our stay I think we still prefer CSR over POR. I think the beds are more comfortable at CSR and I like the fluffy comforter better there too. I like the doors that separate the bath area from the sleeping area at CSR over the curtain at POR. Plus the air conditioning vents at POR has been aggravating. Plus to us CSR feels like our home resort.

There's a lot of great things t POR. The refurbed rooms are nice, the resort grounds are beautiful, and we loved the food court. Also the staff has been super friendly. I think you could be happy at either resort.

For the air conditioning issue....do you think a plastic magnetic vent reflector might help? We will be staying there soon too and hate to freeze!!
Thanks so much for your info. :)

How far is the parking lot from the buildings? I'll be at POR in Sept. My mother who has mobility issues will be traveling with us. We'll have our own car but I'm concerned about the distance she'll have to walk from our room to the parking lot.
