At home Birthday parties

Most parties here are out - mine are (except my oldest, born in July, swim party). I think people have them out because they're easier. I'm always very impressed with parents who have them at home. Dd9 is going to one on Friday, ds7 one next week, and I love that it's in town, easy drop off and pick up - CEC is 20 minutes away. My kids really like them, too.

I agree- my kids go to very few home parties. Well, the 13 year old goes to quite a few slumber parties, but the activity is usually out of the home, then they go back to the house afterwards. Anyway, the few home parties they've been to, they loved! I don't get the feeling that anyone looks down on them- it's a lot of work to clean your house and plan a party like that. A lot of us just work, have other kids, other activities, and it's easier to just pay someone else to do the whole thing!

I use to have them at home then I did one someplace else.. never again will I have a large home birthday party... too much work! I like going someplace and not having to worry about set up, clean up and all the cooking and cleaning! In the end most have been as much as a home party would have been anyway and I get to enjoy it too!!

We had a home party last year for DS's 13th birthday.

We are having his party this year at the YMCA, simply because he wants to invite a lot of people and our house cannot handle 20 people!

Having his party at the YMCA was pretty affordable - he gets a cake, gets to invite 20 people, and they will all get to go swimming. The cost was $135.

Plus, no clean up for me!!

:)

DS wants his party at home. He did last year too. It was SO much work. This year he wants a football theme and to invite his entire class. Thats like 22 kids :scared1:. And his bday is in December so it's possible that we wont be able to go outside. The only location that he is willing to go to is Monkey Joes but that place is so expensive (bouncy place) and we really cant spend it right now. Everyone we know has homes at a place. We are the only ones that have had a home party.

I told DH that I would like to offer him the choice of a party or to go to the Lego store and buy a big gift. DS really wants to have his friends over and to get lots of presents so I dont think he'll go for that.

To complicate things, there isnt a date anywhere near his birthday that DH could be at the party. There WAS one Saturday - but DH's company is taking everyone to Great Wolf Lodge for the Christmas party and the pass is good thru that day. We'd be crazy to pass up a free day at GWL!

My kids are 12 and 15 and we have done more home parties that parties out. Especially since they have gotten older. I think once my DD hit about 7 or 8 she just wanted to have slumber parties. Next year when she turns 16 she wants to invite 2 or 3 friends and go up to Estes Park and stay at The Stanley Hotel overnight.

We did a bday party at my house 2 yrs ago for my DD then 7. I had 18- 7 yr old girls screaming for 3 hours. That is worth any amount to pay to do the party somewhere else. Seriously though, we did a pajama party (not sleepover) and the girls really had fun...we started something too, cuz 2 other girls did that, that year. It seems to be happening a little more by us, but I think the convenience factor is what makes people go out to do it. Now, my younger DD wants a house party for her 7th bday too....I just need to cut the list down a little I think cuz 18 was way too many.

ooooh! What a great idea! My dd would love to stay at the Stanley and doing it for a birthday party sounds like fun! I might have to steal this idea from you. :)

I am sure she wants to look for ghosts while there. It is a haunted hotel after all. I think it will be a lot of fun. Too bad we have almost a year to wait. :)
