Arrived about 10:00 PM yesterday after a long day of island hopping. Glad that Alamo gave us a paper with directions because it was better than phone app. Resort was beautifully lit at night.
My first 3 experiences were less than magical but undoubtedly influenced by the fact that I was very tired:
1). It felt like we were being taken hostage as we drove in. I am obsessive about guarding rental cars after reading online horror stories about valets/car damage/rental car damage claims denied because a non-authorized (valet) driver had caused damage. The valet practically grabbed our keys, started unloading our luggage before I even put the car in park. I was tired and they had no other guests but it rubbed me the wrong way.
2). I had made a request for a particular area for our 1 bedroom ocean view. I had done online checkin and the assigned room was not where I requested. I politely asked if there might be a room available where I wanted and there was. it took 20 minutes to make the change. So if it was available, why was it not assigned in the first place? My crabbiness was surely a factor here.
3). I had been bragging for MONTHS to DSis about Aulani and couldn't wait for her to be greeted with a flower lei. Not. After our half hour checkin process the bell person offered kukui nut leis (the male version) to us. It is ridiculous, I know, to be so disappointed about such a small thing, but I was.

Friday, a new day after some sleep. The resort is as beautiful as all previous threads have indicated. I walked around taking photos and I already know that lots of our points in the next few years will be going to provide rooms for many family members. I can see different age levels enjoying different aspects of the resort. If this resort were on the mainland it would be booked at 11 months every single day.

A few things about the room that I really like:
- Lots of hooks for hanging stuff in the bathrooms
- Heavy sliding doors to the lanai that block noise
- Screens on the lanai doors
- Sheers on the lanai doors
- A rechargeable flashlight mounted in the master bedroom closet
- Lovely carvings and other attention to detail
- Nice toiletries, including lotion

A few disappointing things:
- Zero drawer storage in the living room area. Anyone sleeping on the pullout or pull down bed has to use drawers in the master bedroom. Total PITA.
- I am sure that cost dictated the failure to use the Kidani/BLT bathroom design in 1 bedrooms but DSis and I miss having totally separate bathrooms.

I am trying to drink in every moment here because DH's health will prevent me from returning. I feel unbelievably blessed to be here with DSis, who has never been to Hawaii. The rainy weather that was predicted has so far not materialized on Big Island, Maui or here. DVC is not perfect but I would be hard-pressed to name dollars I have spent that have brought me more joy. Aulani is the latest joy.

If anyone has an upcoming trip and needs info, I will try to help. Post questions.

I'm glad to hear your overall impressions of Aulani are favorable. As I have said many times, Aulani seems to be in a class by itself when compared to other DVC resorts.

I know some members don't like posting their villa numbers while they are at the resort. But once you leave, I'm curious to hear which section you requested and which section you were originally offered.

Relax and enjoy the rest of your stay at Aulani!

We will be arriving in 28 days! Can't wait! Would it be possible for you to post your daily activity schedules? I'm trying to plan a few outings and that would help me decide which days to leave the resort. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

There is a whole thread of Daily Iwa's (the Aulani daily activity schedule) that have been scanned and posted.... you might want to check them out here:

Jean- I hope you have a fabulous visit from here on out! I know what its like to be tired and arriving and not getting expectations met! I would imagine they had run out of flower leis? Did they mention why you were getting the nut ones?
I am glad they were able to honor your room request after all, I know we have had good luck with the front desk CM's really helping us out in that way!

I would check back with the lei desk sometime in the future, and just mention that you didn't get a flower lei the first time, if you could possibly have one if available.

Thank you for posting this great review. Glad you guys are now enjoying everything. Good luck and have a great time.

We are debating renting DVC points for later this year, have never stayed in DVC rooms before. I have read they do not include regular housekeeping as but do they include an ample supply of towels for the week stay?
Also, do any DVC rooms have king-sized beds?
Thanks! Enjoy the rest of your stay!

For a 7 day stay you will receive clean towels on the 4th day. 1 bedrooms and larger have washers and dryers in the room or you can pay a nominal fee for more towels. 1 bedrooms and larger all include a king sized bed.
When we first bought DVC we were concerned about the housekeeping issue. No more. We LIKE not having housekeepers in our room everyday.

Love your mini review! Enjoy your stay!

I have a few questions if you get time.

Is there info in your villa on ordering the family dinners they deliver to your room?

If I book an adventure by Disney trip such as the sunset catamaran could I charge it to my room then use a Disney gift card?

Interested in Lei making for me and 21 year old dd. see it's offered for teens could older people join in or is it offered as an adult activity somewhere else?

Do you see adults at the family story telling?

Hope you'll tell us what you did and where you ate upon your return :)

Thank you!

Heading to church shortly but will do some research when I get back.

When planning I debated about room choice for a long time. We are in Ewa room 1052, 1 bedroom ocean view. Here are photos for those planning. They are not zoomed, just snapped with my iPad.

Our big balcony:

I have been very pleased with the internet connection. I will also compliment engineering. When we checked in, we ran to the TV to catch Jay Leno's final show. No TV reception at all. We called and the whole resort was down. Another fly in our checkin ointment. But the next day they called our room to make sure we were up and running, a nice touch.
One more note: I was pretty sad before we left because significant rain was predicted for our whole trip. Lucky us---the weather has been beautiful. I should know better than to stress about something totally out of my control.

Here is the family dining menu in the room:

Concierge says that there are sometimes lei making sessions in the Pau Hana Room for adults, but not always. You will need to check. The story telling is for all ages and describes how families work in Hawaiian culture. The story teller then gets kids and adults involved. Adventures can be charged to your room and then gift cards, Disney Visa reward dollars, etc. can be used to pay.

Interesting that they said the whole resort was down. I have been here since Monday and I watched some of Leno's final show on Thursday night.

In regards to the story telling, Adults are in the majority. If you are referring to the Mo'Olelo fire pit story telling.

Thank you very much.

My husband would like to know if you ate or snorkeled off the premises:)

My wife and I snorkeled in the lagoon just out the pool gate. It was great!
