Hi there :wave2:
As an asthma sufferer of 20 years i have managed to keep my illness pretty much under control,
but the last time we visited WDW (May 05) my asthma got worse.
The first 5/6 days i was fine, but the second week i had to visit the A & E department 3 times. I think it was the humidity that set me off, as i got worse at night, it didn't stop us doing what we wanted, just slowed us down as walking around the parks was leaving me wheezy and tight chested. :sad1:
I have been told that leaving the air conditioning on in the room helps with humidity, is this true ?
I have also spoke to my doctor and she is prescribing me a course of steroid tablets for my trip.
We are visiting Disney this May (for 3 weeks) on our Disneymoon (it was the only time the DW ,to be, could get off work) and i would hate for anything to spoil our time there.
I have read that a card is available from Disney that allows people with health problems to wait in a shaded area when in line for the rides, how does this work ?, and would it help me as it is the humidity that is triggering my attacks ?.
Any tips or suggestions would be most appretiated.

Many thanks

Bring your nebulizer along and do a prophylactic treatment each morning.

Leaving the A/C on in your room will help filter allergens from the air and will definitely cut down on humidity.

The GAC will allow you to wait in a shaded place where available, but that doens't always mean an air conditioned enviroment.

Be at the parks early in the morning, and leave around 2:00 to return to your resort for a few hours during the hottest part of the day. (2:00-5:00 pm) Take a nap, swim, do anything that keeps you cool. Then return to teh parks after 5:00 pm for the evening.

Also, if the asthma affects your stamina, you might want to consider renting an ECV to help conserve your strength for the fun stuff. A lot of people use them in Disney, who wouldn't need to in normal day to day life. It may seem a bit drastic, but a lot of people find that they make a huge difference to their holiday.

If you decide to go for it, the FAQ has plenty of information on renting off site, and getting them on and off buses.

Have a wonderful time, and many, many congratulations to you both! :goodvibes
