Assignment Word Counts

I thought I'd finished my essay; got it all sorted, looking lovely, 5449 words so within the University-set 10% boundary of the word limit (5,000 words)...only to read that the course leaders have changed the word limit boundaries for this particular assignment to within 200 words (i.e. 4,800-5,200).

It's now 2.20am and I've been trying to cut these stupid 250 words from my essay for hours now; I already cut it back from 6,500!

I really don't understand why they've changed the word limit boundaries; any ideas?

No idea, but I feel your pain...too many specifications...this many words, this many sources, this many pages. I will be so happy when this semester is over. Oh, and I am a procrastinator, too! Good luck!

I don't understand it either, and have gone through this same thing more times than I can count. I always email my papers to my sis and have her help edit them. I find that she notices things that are redundant or could be said better easier than I do. Do you have someone you can send it to?

Just cut out a few paragraphs in the middle of the paper, they might not notice . We had a prof in college that we all plotted against once, everyone wrote a good first and last page, put garbage in the middle because we noticed that he never seemed to put any comments/corrections in the middle sections of papers. NO ONE got marked down for that--it was pretty sad actually.

First rule of reading research papers - read the abstract, introduction and conclusion. No one ever cares what's in the middle anyway

I finished it at 3am and it's now in an envelope waiting to be mailed off to the college tomorrow.
